Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

No, even then! I checked the Cornell map and they are supposed to be out west. I have heard of a few in the east during winter though.

I use one like the 6th pic. the Oriole fest. They really like the jelly and I like the jelly holders on this one. They use my hummingbird feeders too, I remove half of the flowers on the hummer feeders so they can fit their bigger beaks in them. They always find the hummer feeders first. I can't wait for them to show up - I've got the feeders out and ready for them. Should be soon.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Mrs. Ed...for some reason when I use Chrome my links won't work!

I have the 3rd one out right now as well as orange halves on the ends of the shepherd hooks. I also have the 6th one but haven't put it out yet.

The Handsome Hummer was back again about an hour ago!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

And some of you might remember I gave my mom this one last year…

I'm pretty sure you said you were going to get me one of those this year...Mrs. Ed... :0)

Well if Rose has a hummer mine should be here any time...... OOOhhhh ED.......

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Mrs_Ed, That is the cutest feeder!! And what a Great photo!! No orioles here :(

nanny, Hummers should be there anytime! :)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

IT is a cute feeder. She has a bunch of other copper-type feeders and ornaments on her deck, including this HB feeder.

Wish I had orioles. My mom took that pix from her breakfast nook. I scanned the photo. She did great!

Nanny, when did Ed show up last year?

Those are such nice feeders Mrs. Ed...nice pics of both of them too!

Nanny I hope Ed shows up real soon.

Ours has eaten at 2 feeders so far...maybe it's Ed getting ready for the trip to In!

No Orioles here either...but am expecting them any minute!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

He didn't show up until April 30 last year....but they do seem to be a little ahead in some spots this year.

I am watching the apple tree across the road really close now. That is where the orioles showed up last year on April 28.

So gee, they should all be here real soon!!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Saw a Ruby Red Throat today at the Bottlebrush Tree. It was all by itself. Never ever seen one before. It was beautiful!

Savannah, MO(Zone 5b)

Put some orange halves out on my feeder this morning for the orioles and will put out my hummingbird feeders tomorrow morning. Looks like they are almost on my doorstep looking at the map. It's an exciting time when you see that first hummingbird of the season at your feeder!

irishsoul, they are beautiful aren't they?! Glad you got to see one.

We have Eastern Phoebes nesting above a gutter spout a about 15' away from a favored hummer feeder. Their babies just hatched so they are busy flying back and forth feeding them. The Phoebes flight path is parallel to the house and the hummers path is perpendicular to the house. There have been some close calls as each were busy going about their business unaware their paths were crossing. We many need to call in the air traffic controllers!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

How wonderful! With all the birds in our yard, I'm always expecting a mishap, so far so good.

Oquawka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, I was boiling my sugar water yesterday to tempt the hummingbirds to my house. I left it on the counter to cool a bit before putting it in the fridge, and my sweet hubby (thinking it odd that I had a pan of water sitting on the counter) dumped it down the drain! Made more this morning and left strict instructions to leave pans of water alone!!!!

Rose

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL... seems about right

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

At least he didn't drink any. I had a bottle, clearly labeled hummer food, in the fridge. My son didn't look and poured himself a glass. WHAT IS THIS STUFF, he asks... LOL (he's 32)...

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

too funny

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

That is so funny!

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

My DH was caught using it to make instant iced tea. I had wondered why it was getting empty and the feeders were too.

South Hamilton, MA

Can't the guys read?

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

My GD did the same thing...and I had HUMMER FOOD wrote on the bottle!

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Or they can read, and know that it means 'sweet' ;-)

Well I just finished put out several hummingbird feeders around our house and I put out one oriole feeder. It's cool, cloudy, and getting very windy here so hope I can keep the feeders from spilling to much. The house protects some of them somewhat. We live about one hour north of the K.C. area so hope the hummers will be moving in soon according to the sightings map. Cleaned and disinfected our martin house to on Saturday knowing they will be moving through soon too. Love to watch the hummers from our front porch feeding and to see how they move around so fast.

I was surprised to see a Hummingbird this morning. I took four pics but only 1 may be decent enough to post. The Firebush blooms should start opening soon, and I'm sure that's what he is waiting for.

Melbourne, FL

Here she is, she visited my Mexican Sage for a moment.

After three weeks of changing nectar and watching everyday...the hummers are here!!! A beautiful ruby throated boy and his bride...hope they will be ok with the wind, rain and cold coming in tomorrow....

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

emsmommom.. since you have your feeder out, you have given them a much better chance of doing OK. You are providing them with an available source of energy to combat the cold.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

gardenpom, Nice capture!

emsmommom and gardenpom, Congrats on your sightings!

Melbourne, FL

Thanks, Cuckoo and Iris.

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

gardenpom, Your welcome! I'm sure she will be back and the mexican sage and I hope you get some more nice shots!

Melbourne, FL

The Hummers favorite food in my yard are the Firebush flowers, however the shrubs were killed back pretty badly this last winter. There are flowers coming now, so it won't be long till the hummingbirds are happy again.
