South Hamilton, MA

Northern WI? Really the birds are optimists.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I was checking my records from last year and the first Hummer I saw last year was on April 18th!! Maybe one will show soon...boo hoo...!!

Congratulations to all of you who have them...I am very jealous!! LOL!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Haven't seen any Hummers today, so they were probably migrating North. Look out, more are heading your way. They didn't look like the family we usually have. So I will be looking out for our residents.

Lakewood, NJ

Thanks for the comments on my hummer pictures! Actually, I find them pretty easy to photograph because they are normally such inquisitive little creatures. If you stay in one place near their feeder long enough, they will start coming around. The trick is not to try taking pictures right away... get them use to you first. I move just a little bit at first until they gain trust in me that I am not going to harm them.

I love them... can't wait for them to come back! Soon I hope!

last summer me and DH would sit close to the feeders and keep talking and drinking out coffee and one male would go back and forth between us as we talked as if he was listening to what we said it was funny the way he would be about one foot infront of me then move to DH and back sometimes up to ten minutes of this, I figured out that if we ignored him and kept talking he would keep doing it lol I hope he makes it back this year I have missed him lots this winter

Marlton, NJ

We had that happen quite a bit too. It's such a great experience!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

they should be herer soon last year it was mid april when they showed up

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

My mother's husband sits on the porch and the hummingbirds will land on his arm. Last year I had one come stare me down while I was in the garden. It was funny.

by the way, I bought a red visor for the garden! LOL

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I bought one of those giant foam red cowboy hats to wear in the back yard (so the neighbors don't see me but the Hummers can) but it has been too windy to wear it! For some reason I don't think spring has sprung in the Ozarks!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

OMG! ROFL

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

hahahahahah I was out with my red shirt this morning lol dont think they are here yet since its still to cold at night but soon I hope I am putting up the feeder this coming weekend to make sure to get the first ones that show up they usually thank me with a great show

Summertown, TN(Zone 7a)

We put out one feeder, for now (there will be three feeders by summer), and I have seen them drinking from it, this past week. I went out this morning to shoo a robin attempting to build a nest over the front porch light fixture, and a hummer buzzed me in my red sweatshirt! :-)

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

red is the color to attrach them for sure

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Sould have known Rose would go all out and get a big ole cowboy hat!! LOL

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Woo Hoo! Is that earlier or later than last year?

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Pelle and Mrs. Ed...I think my first one last year was 4-18 so a few days early. Did I tell you how cute he is? LOL!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

still waiting for mine but its close checked the maps today and the ruby is at the border so will put up feeding on saturday they should be here by sometimes next week

and the roufus are a little behind probably sometimes in around may 15

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

A couple of days ago I was on my back patio and I heard this lightsaber sort of sound coming from by my back door, I looked over and this male ruby had a female backed into a corner. She was hovering in place, and he was buzzing back and forth, back and forth. He wasn't leaving, so she sat on my outdoor thermometer, stuck her neck out and watched him go back and forth, like she was watching a tennis match. It was so funny. Finally, he took off and she went the other direction. I am wondering if he was protecting his feeder or if it had anything to do with mating? Anyone know?

Greenville, SC(Zone 7a)

Not sure on that one, But, I can imagine how funny it must have looked!

Marlton, NJ

Sounds like a mating thing but that she wasn't interested. :-)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

hee!

I've seen mating once. The female was definitely NOT interested!
