Nice photos everyone. I'm waiting to see my first-of-year (FOY) Cedar Waxwing. Sunday was a beautiful day despite a limited amount of bird activity.

Here is a Coopers Hawk in my next door neighbor's backyard. A Crow and this Hawk just had an encounter right in front of me. I was too close and unable to respond quick enough to get an action photo. To be honest, I couldn't believe my eyes. I was within 10 feet of the attack.

Red-winged Blackbirds are everywhere ... singing their hearts out.

Anytime I want a photo all I have to do is put out some peanuts for this Red-bellied Woodpecker.

Likewise, Tree Swallows are everywhere taking over the Bluebird houses .....

I had a rare sighting on Red Hill today. Saw an Upland Sandpiper. They don't live here, I suspect migrating north to spend the summer on the grasslands of the prairies. I couldn't get close enough to get a good photo, but spent some time watching him through my 20X50 binocs.

These birds were once abundant on the prairies but are in severe decline.

Carolina Chickadee taken Sunday in the rain....yuck!

Peanuts are getting to expensive but I still want to give the jays & crows something 'special' so I am starting to switch to some cat food put out for them. They seem to like it okay...which is good!

They have put my friend John's house up for sale...but for now I still check on things and the Blue Birds have started to nest in his houses that he has up. That makes me so happy.

This pretty girl was in the front yard yesterday evening. I see her & a couple of males around alot. In fact they were all 3 in the back yard just a bit ago this morning. So I assume she has not chosen one yet!

Had a Purple Finch yesterday too, which was a HUGE surprise!!!

This is the male Blue Bird that is hanging around our house. I am hoping that he is nesting close by and will continue to come. He is sitting in our little Red Maple tree that I planted 2 years ago. He matches our neighbors tractor!!

I had an unusual bird yesterday with the Upland Sandpiper and some real different birds this a.m. Never seen these guys before, but I have heard them in the evening and morning. They live about 1/4 mile north of me. I suspect they will be back now that they know where I throw scratch.

Helmeted Guineafowl, from someone's poultry farm. They're native to Africa, but widely domesticated, often kept along with chickens, etc. So you can't 'tick' them on your list ;-)

Oh I saw a flock of Cedar Waxwings passing by, some perched on the Chinese Previts (perhaps for the seeds?). I was so upset, I didn't have my camera with me.

When we were talking about replacing the finch socks with hummer feeders someone said not to because the finch would be back one last time. They came back.

Where do your finch go? I am suspecting North? I have them year round and so look forward to them in the summer for the color! I remember years ago and old neighbor of mine though our parakeet got out!

The turkeys are often outside when I go to let the critters out. The hens all took off quickly, but this tom was too busy strutting his stuff to get in much of a hurry. Too bad he had to be right in the highway.
