I had held off starting the summer threads because I don't have any new photo's,
just older ones. Finally, I can't stand to wait any longer. So here's our new starter thread
with an old photo, sorry.
Morning Glories 2009 #01
I know what you mean Jackie I'm getting anxious too... my pandurata's are germinated! Even the older seeds (two of them). They are about 1 week old.
Most of the seeds that I planted are up, too. Now to watch those babies growing and blooming their little buds off!
I am growing some at school. My students are so interested, that one of the children (not sure which one, as no one would confess), pulled out 2 of the new sprouts! So of course they died. But luckily I planted 2 seeds in each pot. I really laid it on thick about how SAD it was to find some of our new plant babies damaged and dying. Noone has touched the others so far. I think the kids were so curious that they just HAD to touch them. LOL!
Oh well ... such is life!
A, I'm so happy that even the older pandurata seeds germinated. If they were the seeds I sent you, they are 8 yrs old now.
Will be interesting to see how long it takes for the pandurata's to bloom in
your climate.
Becky, I think the seedlings will be safe from now on. lol
Me too.. Now the work will start.
Becky, I know exactly how the kids feel, I sometimes peek at the roots too...lol that child is going to be a great gardener some day!
Well, I thought I'd post some old photos from 2007... this is before I knew how to focus my camera, so, I have about a million of these photos and thought this would be a good time to post some since there are no blooms yet here.
All the flowers came out really light and they still look good to me, but I know it is the lack of knowing the camera.

All lovely blooms A.
Thank you guys, sorry for posting old pics, but I had been looking for the last one to show Joseph..
A.
A - Wow! I so want to see some blooms here. It's going to be awhile though ... Most of mine have germinated and are starting to put out their first true leaves. :-)
I'm just now starting mine. Will be 2 months before I get any blooms. :-(
Joseph, I don't have a problem getting anything to germinate except that stubborn obscura. When I'm talking about 8 weeks to bloom, realize that many, well most of mine
never get any sun. Sun never touches my front porch. Amazing really.
That's probably why mine only bloom a month for the most part.
I could grow them in the ghouse but gets to 130 in there so the spider mites would cover
them in no time. I need to do what Emma does and put a spoonful of Bayer 2 in 1 on
top of the potting mix to discourage the mites. This done after they get their first or
2nd set of true leaves. The bugs get an early start here so any prevention needs to be
started early too. :-) However, just thinking about all this work makes me tired. lol
No wonder the bugs defeat me so easily.
Some of the ones I sowed last week already are showing their first set of leaves. Joseph, mail on the way today... just got back from town.
Jackie, the third cup with pandurata seeds turned out to be I. purpureas, I don't remember who sent me those..lol
Becky, yours will be something when they get going... I started several crosses from two years ago, so lets see what they do.. I thought I had sent them all out, but found a few more.
A.
A - Can you see me smiling? You bet I am! I LOVE your crosses! I've gotten some remarkable blooms from the ones you have sent me! Thank you again! :-) :-) :-) I look forward to photos of the crosses you are growing this year! Can't wait to see those babies bloom!
Gourd, your photos are so beautiful!
Becky, here's a photo from this morning of the Purple Flaked seeds you sent me this winter. Most of the others you sent are starting to set buds, and I'm hoping for blooms within the week! All the others are I. nil, these will be the first that I have grown of this species, so I am very excited.
Cathy
Cathy - The purple flaked bloom photo is stunning! Thanks for posting it! I am so glad that you are enjoying the vines! Congrats on your germination and growth success! :-)
Thanks Becky! I have a question: I have two tags marking little seedlings from your seeds- one reads Jishi, and the other reads Jishi Ten Ten. I'm thinking that I didn't put an "x" between the Jishi and Ten Ten, and that those seeds were a cross between those two parents?
Patootie- can you tell me which JMG is in your first pic at the top of the thread? I love that deep blue. I just got some seeds from EBay that are labeled Hatsu Arashi, and I'm hoping it will be similar to your beautiful bloom.
The Jishi Ten Ten is Jishi x Ten Ten. But the vine resembled Jishi with some variation. I got the original crossed seeds from another person and grew them out and the seeds you received are from my grow-out. These two cultivars (regular Jishi and the crossed seeds) will look similiar when grown out is my guess. Both will produce pretty blooms. My vines were more on the compact side.
I'm pretty sure that is Hatsu Arashi. It was my first glory to bloom July 07.
Thanks Becky, I hope these bloom soon, I'll take pictures.
Thanks patootie. I'll be planting these seeds tomorrow!
Ok, Joseph . . . I have a Fuji FinePix J110 10.0mp ditgital camera . . . how do I do that? I do wish you were closer for photo lessons! . . ^_^
Thank you Cathy, Your purple flaked is very nice.
Becky, me too, smiling here.. I wish you lots of pretty's..
I got a one that i'm keeping an eye on here from the 2007 crosses, hopefully I can keep these guys alive till they bloom. It's really cold today and windy as all heck.
Nicole, good job there.. There is a tutorial for the camera that X put on here a couple of years ago and they really helped me with my camera.. click on her name and then check the threads she started... It really helped me to take better photos, I need to practice more though. One reason I have not purchased a new camera is that I don't want to take the time to re-learn another camera... Yikes.. I know it shouldn't bother me, but I'm always in a hurry.
You know, I'm almost wondering if it is a setting on my monitor at home . . . when I was posting the pix this AM, the blooms looked a washed out mauve/lavender-ish color . . . here at work, the blooms look more like they did in person . . .
But I will go and see what X had to say in the tutorial . . . ^_^
Nicole,
You have a nice camera, and after scanning through the owner's manual I got on the manufacturer's web site, it appears you can't manually set the ISO. You can play with some of the other settings to experiment perhaps? You can also shoot using morning light on a calm overcast day. You can even try shooting through polarizing filter material (you'd have to experiment with the material holding a sheet of it with your hand while you shoot with the other hand. If you try the latter, you'll most likely have to keep the film close to the lens of the camera and rotate the film until you get true color registering on your viewing area of your camera.
I forget the settings...is there one for adjusting the quality of color, such as going from natural to vivid to other selections? If so you can play with those settings too to get better color capture.
Have fun!
Joseph
Huh? LOL!! Where would I get this polarizing filter material? At a camera store like Ritz or Wolfe? As for the settings . . . I've got the camera with me at work . . . there is a place for Natural, Night, Museum, etc. I'll play with them during lunch . . . Thanks, Joseph!
