eww..thanks for birdie picts!
Tropical Garden #34
RJ, If you see any big sheets of plastic flying by it might be from mine or Ritas greenhouse! Jerry
I ran out to take some quick pics before the 44 degree weather hits tonight and the wind ripped off my poly on the porch yesterday...........boo hoo.
Patty, with my wind I have given up on brugs......but not plumerias.
Here is my prized Aeschynanthus Tia Pink just coming into hot pink color.........go away wind........
Gessiegail, that Aeschynanthus Tia Pink is just gorgeous!!!
I've never seen that color, I gotta find one.
Orchids looks very happy & stunning!
RJ, Are you feeling a little cool breeze this morning? Old man winter in back in Dallas again! Hope for the last, THE EVRY LAST time i HOPE!!! Jerry
Jerry, we are supposed to have the same cold weather tonight for us..........44 degrees, but the sun is shining.
Sunshine in Florida, there is a story behind that Tia Pink.........a man at a nursery in Boerne, Texas found it in Florida years ago and started propagating it, so it is not registered.. She is a magnificent plant. I had been looking for years to buy one but he likes to sell them in a little pot with 3 cuttings. Finally over a year ago, I saw one for sale at his place and bought it.
I feed my hoyas and everything on the front porch 3 kinds of fertilizer......and they stay in bloom..........First I use an orchid food by Better Grow with a 20 nitrogen count.......then I use a fertilizer that the man in Beorne makes urea free of 14-37-12 (1/2 tsp per gallon)...........
Then for good measure, I have been using the orchid fertilizer old time mix from a guy who sells the fertilizer recipe on line.
Here it is: It will do wonders for not only orchids but everything else too
1 Can of Beer
1 Cup of Epsom Salts
1/2 Cup of Ammonia
2 cups of water
Mix all four ingredients and put in a container
Use 1/2 ounce at a time. One time every two weeks. Add this mixture to the water (1 gallon) when watering your orchids.
gessiegail, it was a pleasure looking at all your beauties, your Tia pink is also a new plant to me.
Texasbigleaves, the wind is still blowing strong this morning. I had to put extra weight on the edges to help hold the plastic down. I hope that it dies down soon. I am prepared for the cold but not the high winds.
patty, have you ever tried Consan Triple Action 20..........I spray the floor, the plants and everything to keep mildew and everything else off my plants............
plac.
What a memory. I didn't remember all that. LOL
Hap
wow.. I lost you all again.. we just had a blizzard.. now the sun is out.. all your pictures and plants inspire me and lift me up.. hope all my honeysuckles are okay outside, I have a nice collection, and they were doing fine beofe the storm, love that hot pink one I saw up there.. my Iochroma is still in flush, jasmines are loaded and we are still inside.
RJ what dogwood are you growing? is it inground? information, pls.
Candela, your hoya looks like H. australis. They can take a lot more sun than the most hoyas, you can feed your hoyas with bloom booster or 10-10-10 weak(1/4 strength) solution weekly to help it along.
Placenciarita, nice flowers & photos.
Joeswife, pretty picture. I hope your plants are ok.
My CC in bloom today.
gosh those hoyas a CC are awsome, can they be kept inside as houseplants?
I have a dogwood tree still in a large tub, it was budded before the snow.. I havn't looked at it to see if it was damaged yet.
Couldn't find any Chalice plant at the lowes.. we are in Kansas here, Toto, and the tropicals are few and far in between .
Sunshine, that hoya photo was lovely... :)
Brittany
hmm..dark tree in front might be purple castor bean.
palms on the deck or by the deck? I pulled two palms out of the back as they didn't seem happy.
Dogwood...have no idea , a guy from work gave it to me 5 years ago..it's in the ground by the bop...stays pretty dry all year over there.
Rj, now that I have all this info. on growing a Tree Fern. I will start looking for a larger size plant. I usually kill the little ones. I even have a spot by the pond to put it.
I hope that you did not toss those Palms, the one I was inquiring about is about 7-9 ft tall, and was very happy where it was.
Papaya trying to push the plastic off.
rita, I can see you being able to grow dogwood but not randy or I (me?). Too hot here and soil not acid enough, so it must be a special cornus. I need to look into this.
