I was out walking Spirit, and didn't have my camera with me, so I ran inside and handed the pup off to Mom, and grabbed my camera. I got this photo. And my battery died.
Hummingbird Adventures #3
Those are some BIG hummingbirds, SW...LOL!
Glad Spirit is up and about and walking with you again.
Oooo, look at those wing feathers, SW! How cool is that photo, blurry tho it is?! Very cool! Those ducks are very pretty.
That furry friend is a squirrel, girrell! What?! You can't see it? Through nose smudgies? Puleeease! It's only a dirty glass door, girrell! She ran around the fence several times, back and forth, then on to the ground, then back to the fence, then back to the ground and the pot . . . even while the finches were on their sock. I doubt there is anything in that pot for her, unless she buried it. I understand that she won't eat finch seed. So I haven't a clue what she thought she'd find.
Maybe it was just a little yellow finch . . . like this? Too bad I'm not able to capture a pic of the occasional hummie visiting my feeders. Will a yellow finchie and a squirrell do, girrell? [chuckling]
Linda, feeling a little clever again this evening
Looks like you have three different ones there, Linda. We love our finches.
I love my house finches even if they are the prettiest of birds. They have a nice song. I told you Twincol, that I couldn't tell if that was a squirrel or a cat. I am half blind to begin with after all. Just ask Weegy or KC about me and the edit line. I had to take off my glasses to read the small print. It was funny!
About hummers, they move awfully fast. I had left the gh door open yesterday so the hummers could shelter in there during the rain and wind yesterday. When I went out to take photos today, I found only Zippy and Zoom visiting the feeder. Then I walked in the greenhouse and found three hummers flitting around. It was pretty neat. I got some nice photos, and even Zoom came in for a visit, just before I closed the door at dusk.
Hope you enjoy the following photos. I was really surprised at some of them.
Outside feeder, looks like Zippy.
Edited for spelling error, and to apologize for posting a photo of the walnut tree instead of Zippy.

Thank you for explaining about the picture SW, thought I was losing it there. LOL
Nope, I get to claim that honor today! LOL!
Just one of those days.
WIB,
SW
Hooray! A new game....how many hummers do you see! I completely missed the other one in the first photo.
I just aimed the camera not expecting anything in particular when I remembered something my Dad had said, about always checking out photos with the crop feature on the photo shop. Boy, was I surprised too!
It all depends on how good your vision is. I used the same technique to find the one in the bougainvillea too. I thought it was a leaf. Sneaky little hummers. ^_^
They really do cheer me up when I see them flitting around. Each one seems to have it's own personality. Zoom is fast and flashy, Sweetie Pie is sweet and shy, and Zippy is my exhibitionist, although I still wonder if there is a Zippy imposter.
Especially since I counted four hummers in the gh today, and saw another one outside at the same time. Don't worry, they can get out. I do open the door for them during the day too.
Dogs and cats aren't allowed in there.
Every day watching these hummers is an adventure!
WIB,
SW
[TEMPORARY HIJACK BEGINS] It's funny, SW, you should mention impaired vision. There are dozens and dozens of those little finches in my backyard at any given point in time. They are flitting about everywhere when they aren't on are about the feeder sock less than 10 feet away. But except for those nearby on the ground or on the sock or moving nearby I'll be darned if I can see 'em. And they're, what?, 2+ times the size of your little hummies, girrell. My Fruitless Mulberry is leafless-but-seed-filled at this time and I can't even see them flitting about up there, I can just see movement. And the just disappear when they're perched.
Now my vision is impaired; I wear trifocals, geez. I can't even imagine seeing perched hummers like you can. [TEMPORARY HIJACK ENDS]
Your photos are wonderful. Umm my favorites?
(3/22) the ducks, esp (7:34) the one flying with all those wonderfully highlighted wing feathers AWESOME!
(3/21 10:25 am) "At Attention" look at those wing feathers!
(3/21 8:47 pm) I told you they were shunning me!
(3/21 10:30 pm) Look'it that tail!!!
(3/23 8:56 pm) "This is not Zoom. Looks like Zippy"
(3/23 9:20 pm) A pair side-by-side facing opposite directions--too coy, too cute for words!
Oh my, past my bedtime! Keep those pictures coming, SW!
Linda
Thanks Linda,
It's been helping me to relax, and I've been under a lot of stress lately. I went on a wildflower Safari today, so I didn't get hardly any photos of hummers today. They seem to like the green house now and maybe I should start charging for the room and board! LOL!
I caught this little one inside the green house. It seems Zoom was co-operating a long time for me today.
Okay, this little fellow hiding by the yellow ornament was being really mischievous tonight. He'd fly up and perch on top of the feeder, and as soon as I moved my finger to take the shot, he'd fly away. He is smaller than the others, and since I couldn't get a good look all I can say, is that he is a tricky one. He teased me for quite a while and this is the best photo I was able to get.
Linda, I've been wearing bifocals since I was 25, and I'm long overdue for an eye exam. I procrastinate. I apologized to Mom for giving her a hard time about peering over her glasses to see better. I get it now.
Tomorrow, I won't be hiking the hills, so I'll have a chance to do some hummer watching after my tune up.
WIB,
SW
I'm just now catching up on the hummer adventures. I think they've you trained well, SW. :-). I'm enjoying the pics...keep 'em coming. Hummers really are such a delight to watch, and it's definitely great during a stressful time. The babies I was watching fledged sometime Sunday evening or early Monday morning. It's so great that they made it, but I certainly miss watching and photographing them.
You'll have to name that one Trickster, SW!
thanks sunnyg, for sharing your photo. Sigh! I still haven't found any nests to check for babies. I do love they way they take care of their babies. Sigh!
KC, Trickster it is.
WIB,
SW
Reminds me of the gymnasts at school doing the 'iron cross.' :-)
SW, is he white? Looks white from here. In fact, looks like a finch. Now THAT'S tricky!
