March Blooms VI
You make me sick, GL!! Those leaves are beautiful. ^_^
The main thing is I hope they produce lots of pretty babies. JK sent them to me and there are lots of neat varieties in there. The leaves you sent, Gail, look just as good. Soaking in the cold water first to get them nice and crisp, then planting the sections and watering with cold water in the light mix seems to do the trick for me. Covered in plastic and kept cool near on on the bottom and they stay fresh with only an occasional loss.
All I can say is WOW-I am very envious. I only have 2.
The Strep. leaves all look so healthy.I have noticed some of you cut out the midvein and some plant the base of the leaf.I am interested in your opinions of what works best.Does it matter what part of the leaf you use, other than maybe the tip? Also if you use the base of the leaf, does it need any stem attached?
Lynn
Let me try to answer your questions.
I have planted strep leaves both ways, sections and with the midrib removed. With the midrib removed, a baby pops up at every vein. You get a lot more but I don't need that many. I'm sure commercial growers use this method.
Using the base of the leaf does not require any stem.
Bristol's Paw Print on the right. It is more purple in person.
Great pictures,Goldleaf.Museum of Art is gorgeous! Thanks for the advice.I don't need a lot of babies, just a few to share.
Lynn
Very pretty Museum of Art, GoldLeaf91011!!!
very pretty, goldleaf,i have a very nice freind thats gonna send that,
JIM
It's so cute!
Lynn, turn most of the lights out and put her on a dark background........turn your camera to macro or zoom in lens and just take with a flash.............That is all I know how to do it (LOL)
Thanks Gail,
I tried a picture near the lights and one in a darker area, but I still haven't got it right.Maybe taking it in daylight or using a black backround will help.I'm not very good with cameras.
try just for fun either Happy Snappy or Texas Hot Chili.............going to strep site and look
**edited to say I think it is one of the two.

more inclined to tx hot chili
She sent me Texas Hot Chili and Happy Snappy. The plants with those tags haven't bloomed yet.Maybe the tags were switched or maybe I have doubles.Either way is fine by me! I think it looks most like the pictures of THC.Thanks for the help.
Lynn
Lynn, can you zoom in with your camera? Yes, the picture is much better......but I just know that you have a zoom or macro on your camera.............
Gail,
I was using macro....LOL.I guess I'm afraid to get too close.I haven't figured out how to capture light yellow yet, either.
Lynn
Nope,I still need practice....LOL
Yup Lynn--I really don't know too much - but I just kept trying different types of lighting and different settings to find what works most consistently. Someone keeps telling me to read the manual, but it just doesn't translate for me. I have been reading "Digital Photography for Dummies" for basic terms and concepts. Also got a lot of help from the photography forum on Dave's.
I need to find my manual . . . Joseph said he'd help me decipher it . . .
I read the manual...after at least 5 years, and I still can't get it right! I will just keep practicing or take everything outside to take it's picture. The rest of you seem to have it down pretty good.I have admired many of your pictures.
good job,ive never been able to get mine to get big enough to bloom
i think i may have to try again one of these days
JIM
I don't have Hey Mei..........may need to order some Bristol's from Rob this spring.......... She is beautiful, Jan!
Gail and Jan,
I think I need photography classes from both of you.
High praise coming from the 2 top streotophiles of Dave's...Thanks! If you saw my mess, you'd go what the hey? How does she get anything to bloom? LOL!
Hey Mei is growing well--I should have leaves to share in awhile. I bought it at the same time as B. Goose Egg, and last night, I repotted Goose egg and ended up with 2 plants!
ok ill save you one (pretty sure i have it still
