Wonderful Pictures! Keep them coming. Love your violets Jan!
Thanks Lynn--think that makes one of you!
b.o.b.- I believe it is a new variety this year.
LOL...I think that makes a whole lot of us happy. They are beautiful! ^_^
I had Mini Merry and Silver Skies a couple of years ago--both nice plants. I seem to be a slow begonia killer...don't know where Silver Skies ended up--wouldn't mind having it again some day.
your right mortswife, i didnt reliease he had one called that,
JIM
GoldLeaf--very nice streps! Sylvia is one I just might make room for--I don't REALLY NEED a bed in this room...do I? And I agree, those colors on your episcia are beautiful.
Gran--sinn Pink Popcorn--sooo cute! I don't recall seeing a pink sinn before--please tell me it is a mini.
Hi Sally! How are you doing?
Give her time to bloom 'true'...........If the leaves are wilting, you are either over watering or over watering................sometimes they bloom this way and then take off with the real fantasy bloom.
Morning everyone!! Back on line-- finally-- spent the biggest part of the day yesterday on the phone with a tech in a developing country--who told me it was my 'puter NOT the satellite--(my 'puter told me it was the satellite) but lo and behold I am back today in spite of having done nothing. Gorgeous pics everyone!!! Phoebe-- pink popcorn is a mini-- the second bloom opened today-- it is even pinkier I'll try to get a pic in a while.!!
Another baby bloomer-- this is a Mini sinn (I think) from a pkg of "Gessie Mix" seed I got as a bonus from Thad Scaggs. I planted these seeds Dec 24-- so a bloom in just under 3 mo's--it is odd looking--can't wait for the second one to see whar it looks like for real. I do kinda like the color. btw-- Imadigger-- it is in the 1 oz cup--but will be potted up before too long.
That's a cutie. I just put one of the bigger seedlings of Sinn. Country Snowflake in a brandy snifter to try it out. We'll see how it does. I have about 8 more seedlings. I'll put two or three in the 1oz cups and the a few in the 3oz solo's. I'll see which one's grow the best.

How funny, Imadigger. That is exactly what I do.........just keep changing ways I do things to see if I can find a better way..........
Oh! That is interesting and cute! How do you get all these seeds?
I get seeds from a number of places, I buy them from the Gesneriad society, Mauro Pexioto(Brazil Plants) and get them free as a member of the Gesneriad hybridizers society. This little sinningia came from seeds that were given as a bonus when I purchased other seeds off ebay. More and more I am getting seeds off my own plants too.
I have become more and more interested in growing my own streps from seeds. If for nothing else, the anticipation of seeing them bloom and hoping for something nice is so much fun and worth it.
I have about 50 seedlings that are in the works and last night I separated a few out into their own pots as they had good secondary leaves. The rest are still in the nursery.
There are 3 seedpods I am watching to ripen. Two are of Canterbury Surprise x Purple Panda and one of Iced Wine x Azure Giant.
'Laura' (Dibley's) grows large with showers of pink flowers. Non-stop bloomer.
That is so cool-- my sucess with streps is well--not good. I do love growing from seed tho.--so am trying again. Eventually I want to try my hand at hybridizing-- but think I need to learn how to grow the seeds out first ;)
I just love Laura! I am growing a few Streps.,but I am nowhere near ready to try anything from seed again.I know it's so exciting, but it can get overwhelming (for me).
Hats off to those of you who do grow from seed!
Lynn
I love all the great pics!! The first thing every morning I come here and look at all your great pictures. I so glad you all keep posting your pretties.
I have a couple of questions. I have not had good luck with starting streps and I saw on one of the posts that someone stuck the leaves in water and rooted them that way. I have one in water that has several roots about 3/4 inch long. When should I plant it, and should I put it in rooting medium, or growing medium?
Also I have Micro Mini that I grea from seed. They ( three) are in a little apotheray(sp) jar and look heathy but they haven't bloomed and they have been just like they are now for two months. Should I fertilize them ?
Also I have seedlings that I seperated (seeds from Gessie, thanks again
Dispatcher, it is turtlechi (Susan) that roots her strep leaves in water and has good luck that way. She could tell you what to do. I haven't seen her on the forum lately but I hope she will return soon.
I root my strep leaf sections in a moist very light mix, kept cool (not on the top shelf) and covered in plastic.
GL, I think I have been keeping my strep leaves too hot and too close to the lights.......thanks for the tip!
Dispatcher--David Harris says the main problem with planting the minis in jars(instead of wicking) is the lack of nutrients-- so you might want to fertilize--Plantladylin grows in jars-- maybe she'll drop by!
very pretty.

Freckles is so cute! I grew that one in the past and loved it. It makes lots of crowns. Not tidy neat rosettes like most mini sinns but grows more bushy and full.
Gail, that's a lovely blossom. It appears to be a delicate fantasy in coloring and Jim said NM was a fantasy I think. He will know for sure.
Keeping the strep leaves too warm will make them rot. I tried a box on the top shelf and had to quickly moved it down. From the leaves I have on the middle or bottom shelf, I rarely lose one. These are on the bottom shelf with most of the other boxes and have been planted for weeks. Not one loss so far. The box I put on the top shelf started to have problems within days.
I wanted to add that I have tried several mixes for propagating. My latest is 1 part peat to 3 parts perlite. I cover the boxes (with drainage holes) securely with plastic wrap. As I plant the cuttings, I water with cool to cold water.
