That's too bad about the Poppy. Hopefully it made it. Randy has his work cut out for him. It's not easy. I use a lot of different things. But, most of it needs to be reinforced every 5 or 6 years and I am a year or two behind on getting that particular slope redone. I like the moss that has grown there and I don't want to mess it up!
I have divided only the oldest ones, Majeste (3 of them) and Diane Clare (2). They are not on nearly as much of a slop either, so they've grown faster. They ones on the slope are still pretty small, in spite of their age. I think dividing them would be a mistake at this point. I think once they're replanted that they'll thrive. Then I'll divide them and they'll be really happy.

yes, the lime color is the light. It was pretty much a rainy day yesterday with a few small occasions that were just overcast. So the clouds were filtering the light.

when would you divide them?... what time of the year
Well, when I divided those, I did it in the late fall as they were going dormant. I thought that might be a little easier than winter since they bloom so early. Then also not so much shock as when they're growing any other time of year. But, I know that after they have finished blooming is acceptable as well.
This was the weather yesterday. My place is about 30 mi. away, following along that water.
that is pretty.... hate to mess up the one in front of my house... it's so big and pretty... but i am going to have to do it sooner or later
That's the exact same way that I felt about it. But, they really did look much healthier and vigorous the next season.
that and we have a bleeding heart we have to take care of this year... the thing is massive... we divided the other we had in that same spot last year... praying for the best... we figured if that didn't work at least we still have the other to try again
I'm sure that it did fine and will come back quite vigorously!
we will see... the only thing I divided other than that... were my iris... which I now have down and can handle
lol .... amazing what stresses us gardeners out isn't it?!
gardening in general is still new to me... digging something up and breaking it apart when it grows well.. just doesn't seem right
LOL
I agree completely!
I keep looking where the bleeding heart is that we divided praying i see growth.. nothing yet
It will. The natives aren't showing themselves here yet, and there quite a few my place. the only one coming up so far for me "gold heart". And i'm very happy for that one at this point!!
I like that gold heart... don't have one YET... but if it doesn't come back... hehehe
I found Bleeding Hearts to be fairly tuff, I wouldn't worry to much about it. I need that Golden one!
It'll come back!! lol I definitely agree. Everyone needs one of 'gold heart'! it's a very standout and well behaved plant. One of the few that I would say is worth every single penny that I paid for it. So, hopefully you find one soon! I'm waiting for the day when mine is big enough to be divided!!
my old fashioned was one of the first plants I bought... I can always get away with those.. Randy loves em
that's good then. That's one point for him towards the redemption of the caladium snafu. lol
:)
Wow - you guys start too early. Don't you sleep?!
Love that dark hellebore, Shelly!! And that pulmonaria, Allison. I have to get that one.
Actually, I found two additional clematis, so I'm at 59. Don't have one favorite, Shelly. Have a number. Love Ramona, Vesuvius, Betty Corning and others.
yes we sleep just fine
wow that's way early.. what time do you go to sleep?
7:15 for me!
between 5 and 5:30 for me
Thanks for the picture of the Allium, Dyane. I have some popping up and wondered what in the world I planted. LOL I guess I wans't expecting that foliage. :)
My forsythia are about to pop.
