Well here we are, almost spring..I was able to get outside for awhile, picking up winter branch debris and fire burning..what a beautiful sound, the crackling, all that is missing are the marshmallows..
In for the 6th coat of paint..might even get another hour or so outside before the temp drops..
Put suet out for the little birdies, want to put up the nesting box I got from Bernie...but then, tomorrow is another day, if I do it all today what could possibly be left for tomorrow??? lol
Bev...loved the little white flowers...
Lucky you to be enjoying..
Hope you are all enjoying your day..

Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #93
Here is my post from the other moved over:
WEll, since I stayed up til 7am reading, I just got up about 30 mins ago:)LOL I was going to just get out of bed and not sleep today, but thought I would crash by about noon, so decided against it...I have a few things to do today, so not sure how much I will be on...
Laura-loved the poem:)
Betty-HOLY expensive bike-oh my!!
Sharran-how sweet-the visit from your son and the calls from DGS:)
Stacey, you resting up for next weekend???
LOL-no-no rest for me-too much to get done!!
I did see a robin yesterday and 2 cardinals today-was SOOOO happy!!
Well hello to all;
Just popping in...then I'll be back with the nightshift. :)
Laura - I loved the Dash poem...I'll have to save that somewhere....Thanks for Keeping Sharran company last night!!
Sharran - I think I just crashed on ya'll last night. My last few notes were incoherent practically! Do you have more than just the one son? I'm thinking you did and I should know this....because you've already told me...
I'm getting forgetful in my old age!
Betty - I almost choked! $700! Well he seems so proud of his bike....and I'll bet he takes real good care of it! I wanted a bike at one time...one from Walmart, maybe around $70 or so....well last Christmas, DH proceeds to get me some fancy expensive bike....way more than I needed. Oh well...he was just trying to make me happy. But I'm very sure it was more like $200....not $700. :)
I remember putting some plastic clips on the wheels to make the clicky sound....I remember some cereal box at the time had some flourescent color clips you could put on the spokes and watch them go around at night & glow in the dark....
We've had a very slow rain today...all day. DH says the plants like this kind of rain. If I could go outside right now, I bet they've all grown an inch at least!
OKay - I'll close with a joke....and unless I pop back in....see you all tonight!
Why did the turtle cross the road?
To get to the Shell Station!
Hugs,
Mary
Mary, I have a son and a daughter. That's all....
Speaking of...my little 4 year old grandson called again this morning to tell me this joke:
"Nana....what do you get when you mix a dinosaur and a Texan?
Tyrannasaurus Tex!"
outta the mouths of babes.
Back later...
HA !
That's cute!
see you tonight!
Too cute Shar...he certainly is growing isn't he...
Temps have dropped, busy day today and although I was trying to stay up for the 'night owls' can't make it much beyond 9pm..is it due to old age?
I'm so tempted tomorrow to bring out the seater for front deck but know although they are calling for a nice week, at least until Thursday, that it's much too soon to do it..
Hope your day was as you wanted it...
Good Lord willing, we'll talk tomorrow!
Well I got one of Betty's Bday pressies 1/2 done, the remaining stuff finished for my spring swap, got the bathrooms cleaned, all my fabric ironed and now need to make dinner:)
So that leaves me laundry tomorrow, and finishing Betty's Bday pressie and start cutting my squares-I still have to go back to HL to get some more of one material and 1 other material....since I didn't get up til 1:30 today, not too bad:)
Hey Stacey;
DD has me watching this movie....
I'll be back...
OK-I will see you all tomorrow:)
I hate scary movies....but DD wanted us to all watch it and it was just the family.
It's been a long time since we've spent a family movie night together, just the five of us....
I'm still checking in....
Mary
Mary...I am on a little bit of a downward spiral tonight....just tired, that's all. Hope you have had a great day, and family movies are a lot of fun.
I’m glad everyone enjoyed the poem.
Mary, I was just glad to have someone to talk to. I'm on so late most of the time that I read what everyone has said and don't get replies till the next day. I have a few on the PNW forum, but not many elsewhere, it's nice to have someone else to actually talk to.
What a day.......They have always had the show in nicer places in the past......this year is a combination of an old brick hanger building (the Park used to be Sand Point Naval Air Station) then they set up some really fancy tents....either way it was very cold, last night and the early part of today were very rainy and all the water ran under the tent so the floors of the booths were cold and wet...they need to change locations if they want a bunch of people returning next year....or at least improve the facilities.
The only enjoyable part of the day was when we left...it was starting to rain and about a mile+ back to the car, we are dragging the computer, thermos, bike frame, reading material and other stuff. We step outside the door and here is a young man with a Pedicab....asked if we would like a free ride back to our car!! I could have given him a big kiss, but gave him a nice big tip instead....he put a really nice touch on a really miserable day!!
Got back to town and decided this would be a good time to use the gift certificate to Anthony's Hearthfire Grill, one of the nicest places in town! It is right on the bay and we manged to get a window table over the water.....the food was excellent too.....so the day wasn't a total loss!
Yes Mary, Laura usually only has me to talk to at night.
Hi Sharran......(((HUGS))) to you...it has been a long day.I let my DH talk bicycles and bike rides, I cleared off the end of the table and played with my clay....as much as you can with frozen fingers.....I had a big chunk of flesh colored clay that I needed to condition...it was very dry and crumbly so I was mixing it with translucent which was very soft. DH decided he has a lot more hand strength than I do, and he needed something to do with his hands so he worked this big ball of clay for me for several hours!! Made both of us happy!
Morning all,
Shar think everything is catching up with you! Don't I know the reason your are keeping so busy at this time of year, it's our escape isn't it? You are in my thoughts and prayers...
Statcey, want to share what you've got 1/2 made???? Soon time to listen to the 5 day weather forecast and see if it's this weekend you'll be making the yourney..
Wow Trisha let's hope you don't come down with a cold after yesterday..what a nice young man to have given you a free ride back to your vehicle..what is a 'pedicab?'
Can just imagine your hubby sitting there working your clay Trisha...wiith knitting machines if I purchased specialty wood Roger would sit with both hands outstretch while I would make skeins ..when I taught Paper Tole he got into making the frames and cutting mats for me, so enjoyed working as a team and seeing his interest in my hobbies...
Riley didn't come home last night, got up 2 or 3 times to see if she was at the door, it will be her 1st night out since winter..must not be as cold as it feels out there otherwise she'd have been clawing at the door...
It's just nearing 7am, going to put the floorcloth down, will clean my closet until it's light enough for me to do a few things outside..
Too busy for me, have the old piece on the workshop tables, will give it a good wash, a few coats of varathane and will be as good as new..oh how I'd love to take the front porch swing out and put the floorcloth down and enjoy a bit of todays sunshine...but then it's going to snow and blizzard yet a few times...I WANT SNOW GONE!!! had enough of it...haven't you?
Morning all,
Betty your floorcloth ties in with your colours so well...very fresh looking.
I think you may be on the right track about getting new seat pads....a solid colour for the new pads would take away from what you feel is looking too busy.
I was amazed at how much Kyle's bike was too..but my son paid over $700.00 for his..something to do with the materials used to build them I think. My son rides his to work in the good weather.
Shar..what a lovely surprise you had from your son.
I am helping my friend cater a birthday party for 30 people today. It is the first time she has done this..and may be her last..she said to me yesterday.."don't ever let me do this again!" LOL
The lady who hired her wanted Potato salad . caesar salad, coleslaw, two different jelly salads, a chocolate cake veggie tray, cheese tray, and cold meats and a pickle tray. We have to decorate the hall this morning and get all the tables set up etc etc. I think there will be a lot of food left over.
Have a good day all..
Cheers,
Carol
OMG that sounds like a lot of work..it will either encourage her Carol to continue looking for catering jobs or put her off and never do again..lol..
Will you get to take some of the food 'home' is it per plate ..even to decorating the hall..wow..hope she put her price up enough to allow for the amount of work..
When I was at Walmart yesterday morning Carol, they had pretty sage green chair cushions, not sure if they were $12.98 or $14.98 and then a beautiful table cloth that would match exactly, even to the type of fern..only problem it's plastic..how come they don't make material ones any more...
Cathy dropped in for coffee as she was taking her sister's dog for a walk, she's dog sitting..the black lab sure doesn't like my kitties, I'm sure they'll be hidding inside/outside all day for fretting...
last closet getting cleaned and my chores are done for the day..must get dressed for a change and perhaps make a 'RUBY' applesauce cake and take meat out for supper...
Betty plastic clothes are cheaper and that makes them easier to change when you are redecorating an area. Plus they are more disposable.
Morning Betty, that floor cloth is so pretty. Have you looked for fabrics to make your own table cloth?
And you say they are painted on the bottom side of the linoleum? Do you brush on the varnish, or is it a spray can?
LK
Vicki, guess so but they just don't look as pretty do they? you are home today, able to get out into the gardens? can't believe it's not lunch yet..lol.. so will go out and try and clean a little more tree branch debris..
LindaKay, yes it is on the backside, don't try and use OLD linoleum though, won't work..sometimes you can purchase from a flooring company a remnant..I always use a lot so a roll at Home Depot 6' x 8' is only $30. If I'm making some for gifts I'll cut up the entire piece and store flat..lol..ought to see underneath my living room rug..
I use a wide sponge brush and Flecto Diamond Statin Varathane which I purchase at home depot..to do the 10 coats and the 2 or 3 I'll give to the old matt I'll use up the mid size can..it's about $15.00..still for a matt the size I've done it's just less than $50.00, wipes easily if food is dropped, same for sweeping animal hair..much better than a real rug..perhaps not as warm but much cleaner and is durable...but I guess the best part is you can use acrylic paints and match exact colors re your decor..
All my work is done, imagine that!
Hello All;
Sharran - I'm sorry I wasn't up in time to chat....it seems that 11p is my deadline...I really feel for you at this time....I hope as Betty said you can keep busy to help get through this....
Hey Laura - I'm part of the "night shift" yes - but seems that I drift off around 11p...
It sure was quiet last night...I suppose most are out doing stuff on a Saturday night.
Carol - that sound like fun...but a lot of work...I wonder how you plan for so many people....
Betty - You are busy as usual....I wish I could send some warm weather up to you...
Our rain has stopped so I might try to get up to the nursery....
I'll pop in later...
Hugs,
Mary
No-I am so not sharing the 1/2 I got done with you!! SHame Shame!!LOL
LOVE the rug-when we redo our floors and remove the carpet and put in wood floors, I am so going to do a couple!!
OMG you can't share...hmmm..can you give hints..love hints!
So sunshine out today, you know what, can't get the swing couch out because that I put on it is secured in ice drips from furnace steam ventilation pipe under closed deck..I'd end up breaking something so no go..but I did get a little water feature out..might fill it up, get one of the plastic chairs I can reach and sit outside, eyes closed pretending it's late spring, early summer..oooohhh so much green starting to show, won't disturb their winter habitat though..
You are a badd lady!!LOL I will need your phone # for next weekend if you can please dmail it to me...
Betty, I love the new floor mat. If you change your cushions to one of the solid colors, like the green or maybe the old rose color, you would like it better, I think.
I forgot to move this over from the last thread….
Audrey Audrey, here is the Clay thread link http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/956807/
$699 to $1000 is Mid-range for a reasonably good bike... we have bikes at the shop where DH works that sell for up to $9500.
Now back to today, Betty the floor cloth is Beautiful….I think that is what I need for my dining room….maybe Bill wouldn’t roll the edges as he does with all my rugs.
Pedicab is a bicycle front with Passenger space behind, see photo below.
Carol, sounds like a lot of work, but no one should go hungry!
We got up to two inches of Snow this morning, so glad it was today and not yesterday!
Now there's my kind of bike!! LOL Not!!
Tubby lol lol lol and lol!!!! Love them.
Lovely poem Laura.
Betty you are very talented, give some of that to me!
Well, I went MIA again for a day, Dave was wound up like an 8 day clock. We went to the grocery store, out to breakfast, came home and put a ceiling fan up, took us half the day and I was exhausted when finished, that was work!
Dont know crissy, it was a pretty good bike....someone else on front doing the work, all we had to do was sit under the rain cover warm and dry until we got to our car and much faster than walking!
Love the ceiling fans, I have put in two since we have lived here....plan on putting another in the bedroom this summer as we don't have A/C since they switched us from electric to gas heat. I want to get one with the dark wood blades that look sort of like leaves to go with old British Colonial/Antique theme in the room.
Betty, I have indoor only cats, because I don’t think I could sleep with them out; I worry too much. Maybe if I had several acres away from town.
I’m ready for Spring if not summer, but the last two or three years we’ve had post
St. Patrick’s Day snow; which I think is just wrong. I just want a nice 70+ day. I’ll even accept what we had last year, which was a couple warm days and back to cold and rain; though that is really hard on the plants.
Mary, I usually drift off by 11pm too, but DH was doing his own thing last night so I stayed on.
I forgot to post yesterday that I’m glad everyone liked the poem. Here’s another one I like a lot.
BUTT PRINTS IN THE SAND
One night I had a wondrous dream,
One set of footprints there was seen,
The footprints of my precious Lord,
But mine were not along the shore.
But then some stranger prints appeared,
And I asked the Lord, "What have we here?"
Those prints are large and round and neat,
"But Lord, they are too big for feet."
"My child," He said in somber tones,
"For miles I carried you alone.
I challenged you to walk in faith,
But you refused and made me wait."
"You disobeyed, you would not grow,
The walk of faith, you would not know,
So I got tired, I got fed up,
And there I dropped you on your butt."
"Because in life, there comes a time,
When one must fight, and one must climb,
When one must rise and take a stand,
Or leave their butt prints in the sand."

God never gives up on us, but He will let us learn some hard, hard lessons.
Hello All;
Hey Laura....well that's a twist on the old poem! I'm with you....I love the 70 degree weather. It's amazing to me that you are 8a and I am 8b yet you are so so far north to me.
Went to the nursery today and planted a sweet basil, lemon basil, roma tomato and red pepper.
I think I messed up with the tomatoe...we may already have 2 and DH wanted a creole....but that's what he gets for working when he should be at the nursery with me.
They had some beautiful cajun hibiscus....I'm tempted to drive right back up there and pick some up....
Crissy - you got a lot done this morning! Looking forward to American Idol this week....I think it's Anoop's last week....
Well unless I pop in from time to time....see you on the "Night Shift" !
Hugs,
Mary
PS: Betty how are the Washington DC plans coming? Did you find a hotel?
I am so tempted to do spring clean up, but I just know as always we will get another snow-we always do between St. Patty's and Easter....
Don't do it Stacey, same here, best I could do was pick up branches and burn..rest will wait till after Easter..being anxious you (I) could do more damage than good...
Greg just dropped in, dressed to a 't', snowmobile 't'..asked how he can snowmobile when there isn't any snow..you guessed it, trailer your snowmachine to the lake..said he spent last 2 days on the lake enjoying himself..need not ask, gave him the whatfor..said that there is so much ice out there..likely story..he's not one to take chances so will have to believe him but didn't stop me from saying 'that's what the last guy said just before he drowned'...
Didn't come for a visit to listen to me preach..lol..
Repaired a plug for me and put up kitchen light over the zinc..he has no patience sometimes and patience of Jobe other times...
Here's his rambling
"Can't understand how they can put a man on the moon and can't make it simplified to put up a *&^*()*&^ light!"
Off he went, his boys are in Meaford for the week as it's March Break, on Friday they are all off to Sudbury - few hundred miles, trailering their snowmachines providing of course the trails are open up there...so he and Melanie are off for supper and a show!
Did get my water feature going, know moving water can't freeze so guess I'll be ok..took 2 adirondak chairs (got to go wash them) sat outside for 1/2 hr...although it's nice to hear moving water, must tell you that the melting of snow running down the front ditches and into the water grate at the end of my driveway sounds like Niagara Falls in itself...
It's (cross my fingers it doesn't change) melting just the way we want, slowly, no flooding..if we get another 2 or 3 days of the same, won't be much snow left..
Crissy I love the color and the trim of you room..what a beautiful fan....did he also say some choice words like Greg...men....
When Greg came in I was sitting sketching..said it was nice to see me relaxed, should do it more often .. relaxation after a long week when you are getting my age is what I should be doing...(his words not mine)...shaking my head
Mary I have everything except the hotel booked, I found one downtown and had a pool, now I have to go through all my paperwork that I've been keeping to find where I put the name and telephone number....sure am hoping that the Canadian Embassy can get me 'tour' for the White House..she said it all depends if they open it for tours before Easter...say a prayer please..kids would be thrilled...
Mary you are right into gardening..lucky you..so laughed at your saying hubby should have gone with you, wouldn't you get to bring home more treats if he doesn't?
Laura, thanks for the poem..lovely..
As for the cats, Missy is out all day and in for the night while Riley sleeps all day and wants to travel at night..I tried keeping her in, but she is after all an outdoor kittie so best I let her lead her life doing what comes natural to her...I wouldn't sleep if I knew she was out in the cold, but, guess last night she felt it was warm enough..come morning she was at the door..where is she now, hmm, comfy as can be on my bed...life of Riley..no pun intended..
Carol, how did the catering go, fun had by all? You must be exhausted..so what's the verdict...last one or taking on more????
That's quite the bike Laura..bet it looked even nicer as you were chilled and tired...
What are you up to today Shar...know my thoughts and prayers are with you!
Well, best sweep us the mess near kitchen counter from the work Greg did..OMG he dropped one of those plastic (I know what they are, do you think I can think of it???) ohhh barret's (???) and it went under the dishwasher, into the side of the cupboard..so opened the cupboard, put his hand in search of it and came out with dog hair & Dust, you should have heard him..probably the only dust bunny in the entire house and he finds it...lol
quick ??
I am making 4 rag quilts. Need to make sure the sizes are right
lap for me-48" X 64"
one for small children-32" X 48"
one for a baby-24" X 40"
