Thanks for the pic, I'll know what to look for now. I have a solitary California Poppy that has been out all winter, now is really starting to look good and can't wait for it to bloom. I love Poppies, but they are hard to grow here. Californians probably think we are nuts, since they grow like weeds there! I see a new bloom this morning on the MG fence, just waiting for brighter light for a pic.
Spring Glories
Dany - Wonderful photo of your SF seedling! I plan to grow that one again this year, but most likely up against my backyard fence so that it will get more sun.
gardenpom - I didn't think Poppies grew here either until I threw some seeds out and they germinated, grew, and bloomed! It was so awesome looking! I also got lots of seeds from them and scattered them around the 3-tiered bed again. Some very generous folks here on DG shared some different cultivars of poppy seeds with me this year. I have lots of them coming up now, too! I can't wait to see what the new Poppy blooms look like this year! I love surprises and this year promises to deliver again! :-)
Here is a photo of my 3-tiered planter with poppies and other seedlings growing in it. I can't remember what other seeds I threw in there, but it is my Hummingbird and Butterfly Zen Garden area! :-)
I LOVE SPRING!!!! My favorite time of year in Florida! I love seeing all the baby plants growing ...
gardenpom - Your photos are outstanding! Love the one of the Poppy flower bud. Please post a photo of it when it blooms! It looks different than any Poppies that I am growing.
Your gray bloom is beautiful, too! As are all of them! :-) Keep up the good work of photographing them all! :-)
I think I barely remember starting a few Red Poppies. These two plants were mystery plants until I saw this lovely stem today. Can't wait for it to open. Thanks, Becky.

Thanks Ron, I'll try to remember to get it over there. Joseph, I have two Rebecca seeds left from the ones Bluespiral sent me, you can have them if you want. D-mail me your address and I'll send them to you.
Joseph - Karen (Bluespiral) sent the Rebecca seeds to gardenpom. I do have plenty of seeds to share if you would like some of mine. I see more purple in mine: http://davesgarden.com/community/blogs/t/beckygardener/7256/
Great photos! Love the bright red poppy! Mine haven't even budded yet. Can't wait till they do! :-)

is the one of the best photos of Rebecca that I've seen so far...
gorgeous blooms all of them.. you guys are so very lucky to have spring there.. it is so cold today I had to cover the beds I uncovered (leaves) back up, and had to bring in the pots I took out to get air and real light.. my lobata and SOH and Raiko loved it out there this am..
gardenpom - The Rebecca plant that you are posting

is looking more outstanding with each post...
The reason that the Rebecca that you have is a different outstanding style (as compared to any others) is the degree of contrast between the large light central halo against the very dark outer limb edge which is creating a definite picotee which is rarely if ever seen on an Ipomoea purpurea...
Thanks for sharing your excellent photography of your outstanding plants...

Ron
I agree with Ron.. by far a beautiful plant you have grown.. I can't wait to grow rebecca.. I have a few of her seeds in a mix..
gardenpom - I love all the blooms you are getting on Rebecca. I live just south of you and I really believe that the I. purpureas (which is what Rebecca and the Purple Flaked vines are) grow rather quick and vigorously here in Florida. I. nils can become nice sized vines, too, but my experience here in Florida is that they just kinda chug along. I always rationalized it out by thinking that those big, bold, and beautiful I. nils blooms take a lot more work for the plant to produce, which takes away from the vine length as well as any abundant leaf growth! LOL!
Thank you for the compliment, Ron. Becky, it's nice to see different blooms, but there may be something to be said for the old tried and true glories like Heavenly Blue, etc. They have certainly proven themselves over the years. Guess that's why I have always been happy with the selection I could find in local stores. Rebecca has certainly been a nice surprise.
This certainly is a tough time of year for those of us in cooler climates. We can only look and dream at the people in warmer areas getting blooms already!
blizzarding here today and tonight.. All my spring glories are still babies.. except SOH and she just blooms when I am at work..
