Bad weather coming? (Hope not).

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll try to order early. I want RI's too!
I just got my catalog too- I have been circling away. : ) Love all the early bloomers you picked out. :)
Pixie,my BB order is printed out too. Nice list. I adore 'Katharine Hodgkin' . I need to go over my list one more time to make sure I have some things for my new Japanese Maple bed which I sort of started digging today. I only managed to dig 7 holes for the maples and will strip the rest of the sod when I feel better. The Dogs and DH think I am encroaching on their favorite spot, but I have left a bench and lots of space in front of it or behind it for the dogs.
You bought 7 from LJ, Patti? I planted two already.
I just pre ordered a peony for fall. http://www.dutchbulbs.com/store/peonies/doublepeonies/15896/image
Meredith, I ordered that one last fall in the peony coop. It is stunning, I hope mine is about to show itself.
Victor, I did get 7 and I have Acer shirasawanum Johin coming soon from Avant, plus I am contemplating a few more for the new bed. I planted a nice A. p. 'Butterfly' last fall to start off the lastest madness. Here are the seven. Which did you order to add to your gang?
peaches and cream
ukigumo
akita yatsubusa
corallinium
Orangeola
Red Dragon
Waterfall
All of those, except for Waterfall, plus Green Cascade, Oregon Sunset, Viridis, Bonfire, Crimson Queen, Oridono and Moonfire.
Meredith & Patti, I love that Peony...also like the yellow until I saw the price!! lol
Received that Brent and Brecky's catalog too. I want those mini's too.
The sad part about ordering these already is I will be more likely to buy more when next fall's new catalogs come out! lol
Actually im pretty sure I will be adding a few more varieties of those dwarf iris's. ^_^
i'm going to order a komachi hime tomorrow - that's what sitting in a doctor office waiting room will do to you if you are reading through the jm pocket guide - trying out a new source for jm's
Who??
Pixie how come you didn't order the iris .... Pixie
???
I will once again thank Pixie for ... my being bad with iris
http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/vbc/onewish1/75026/
Wow!
Victor, I have more of that one spiking so we shall see if they follow suit.
I forgot another Japanese Maple that I have on order from Fairweather. and the Acer shirasawanum Johin that I listed above is coming from Fairweather not Avant. I need to dig 2 more holes and while I am at it maybe 3 more for ones I still would like. Hoping "if I dig it, they will come"???? Patti
Pixie If you really want that yellow one, they have a special right now that you can get $25 off a $50 dollar order so I am looking at it like I got it half off. IJust don't do what I did and forget to add the promoto your order! I just called them and they fixed it, so hopefully it works out right, : )
Iris it is encouraging that you haven't had a problem with the evergreen DL. I ordered a couple that are evergreen- I looked them up in the plantfiles and they say hardy to 5a. Hopefully they will be okay because I really wanted these ones.
Patti I hope you will post a photo of the peony if it blooms, and I love your iris. :) Mine are up but last year they didn't bloom so I don't know if they will this year.
What's the other JM, Patti?
Sorry Allison...I will be ordering 'Pixie' and thanks to Patti most likely 'Frank Elder' too!!
Oh man I just went to see which yellow peony you were talking about and I almost had a heart attack when I saw one of the prices! lol
sorry, A.p. Goshiki kotohime
Looks nice, Patti. I am also getting others from Wildwood - Red Feather, Royle, Kashima and Green Filigree.
That yellow one is a little rich for my blood but I would love a yellow one, and as I ordered the Pink Hawaiian coral from a coop, it costs only 11.00. That was a great coop which started out seemingly confused, but all the ones I got were great in the end and from a known and reliable grower. They were sold at 1/2 price. Hollingsworth. I should be knee deep in peonies in a couple of years. I doubt it will have buds this year, but maybe if it made it through the winter. Patti
Victor, those are all on my growing "wanted list". I would love you to photograph each of yours this season so I could have a handy cheat sheet of great ones that do well in our neck of the woods. Wha could do his too for more reference for the NE. Who else grows lots in the NE that I should be following for ideas? Patti
Will do. Don't know anyone else who is a JM addict like us in the NE. I'll be around 35 now!
Of the ones you ordered, the only one I have for a long time is Orangeola and I can say that it's fantastic. Just gave one as a gift.
Wow, I will never have that many. Are you growing many in containers? But a picture gallery of yours would be fantastic, even more if you took spring growth color, summer, and fall too. Pushy, aren't I, but that would be so helpful to any considering growing them in the NE. Patti
Okay at that price, I am going to be po'd if the peony doesn't bloom next year. I really really fell in love with that coral one, so I guess I'll just have to deal. :) If I got it for $11 I'd be okay with it taking 2 years. Is it typical for peonies to not bloom the year after planting? I really don't have any experience with them. I just planted one in fall - but it was a gift - and my friend that gave it to me is not gentle when digging up plants. So I am going to be happy if it's even alive. This friend has tried dividing evergreen shrubs to get get more plants. So you can get an idea of what I mean. :) I try to subtly tell her there is a finesse to some plants and some can't be divided, but I don't think I get through. lol
Okay, you're getting carried away now, Patti! ^_^Perhaps night shots too? Time-lapse of the leafing out??
Sure - I usually do that anyway. I will do at least three or four in containers.
Yes the yellow Peony is to rich for my blood...i'll wait till the price drops at least half if not more!!! lol
I was told that if I plant or move a peony it will take 2-3 years before it will bloom again. Does anyone know if this is true? I moved one last fall....
i hope not - last year i lifted 8 and amended soil and re-planted
$160? $180? No thanks, I killed one peony last year and it was only a cheapo from HD.
the ones moved where regular one's - i did plant 3 tree varieties 2 of which made through the winter
victor and patti here is the new source of JM's
http://www.topiary-gardens.com/
Diana is very helpful and they have a lot of different varieties - pricing is very reasonable and they are in our zone - she did the grafting on the tree i bought - they had limited reviews on watchdog that were good. one of the only sites i could find komachi hime - greers has them at twice the cost.
