Mine is putting out buds too, but the plant does look crumby.
This is a bat wing P. Manca.
a lady at zone9's sale told me to that blue background takes the best pictures...so I tried it, and..not bad.!

Good morning!

Rj, Candela, great photos.
Candela, how old is your Ylang Ylang? mine is only 2 years old I started from a seed it's about 5' tall.

Where is Rita?

Jan

I am not sure about where Rita may be, but she told me she was going to be grandmother again. Perhaps she is with her daughter. Just a guess.

jan i would say the ylang ylang is about 2 yrs. old. it was a few ft. tall when i got it. now it is at least 15ft. the only way i could tell that it is flowering was when i walked by i smelled its perfume. it is hard to see the flowers because of the color.

Rita's a grandma again. I just read a dmail from her today. She's been taking care of her older grandbabies while her DIL had the baby.

Quoting:
I have a beautiful little grandaughter 6lbs 12 ozs. her name is Barrett. Both Mother and baby are home and doing very well.

She should be back in the gardening mode soon. . . .

Happy Spring Everyone.
Thanks to all. I had a very eventful week. The birth of my Grandaughter on Tuesday, and the death of my MIL in the same week.
I will be happy to get back to the joys of Spring. I caught a whiff of this banana shrub(michelia figo) in bloom and had to get my camera.

that looks more red than my cross vine...mabe we should cross some crossvines in the mail....lol....I spent all weekend tucking, stuffing, crowding plants in bigger pots, every patch of land, re-arrange statues, decorations, lighting..
The brugs are particularly seedy this year...every plants is growing seeds, which is unusual.
caught this one at sunset last night

Planter56,

Monstera is the genus of this split-leaf, according to PlantFiles:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/95689/

Now I'm not sure of which one I have. The sender wasn't specific about the name - maybe she didn't know, either.

Hetty, maybe you can help me with an ID, when you get it.

sorry Hetty, i hadn't noticed new thread.

Randy, fireman's cap grows fast! I don't know that I would recommend the tree to family w/ young kids, they might get hurt w/ the thorns. Mine is in a place where that is not a problem.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

joeswife, you had asked me in thread #32 if my pink jasmine got full sun. Mostly, but it gets protection from the eave. However, my neighbor has it too draped over her mailbox and it gets full frutal sun, and I not much supplemental water.

My jasmines in general seem to do well in full tx sun or part shade.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

The firemans cap is not that thorny. See ..if you leave tall, the kids can't reach it..sorry..couldn't resist.

I love Iochromas- They bloom all year long. I now have Red, Plum and Pruple. The purple is the best performer, and can get very tall. I think the plum is right behind it. I just planted one in the ground, so we'll see how big that one gets. Course, this garden here is abnormal, everything seem to be twice as big. I noticed that the clerodendrum philipinums have worked their way up the pear tree and the tallest is 12 feet tall, I ran out of tape measure...now that seems abnormal but then I haven't seen them in the wild.
It's impossible to get a good picture of the Iochroma..but you can see how tall it gets

RJ: last year my Iochroma Purple queen grew to about 6 ft tall.. full sun.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

you know, I can't grow iochroma to save my life but I may try one last time with the purple.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

aren't they great? I just whacked that one in the photo, and it's starting some full flushes of blooms. Do yours ever produce seed pods? Mine haven't but Waynes at zone9 have lots of plump round seed pods. He has really gotten in to them, he even has a white one. Yes..I'll be slowly increasing my collection...

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

a white iochroma? wowzers! wouldn't it be great to plant a red and a white together in the same hole and let them grow together?

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

When did Wayne get a white one?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

He had it there, it's only stock plant right now.. it appears in the shape of the grandiflora, and they are high maintenance

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Here's the other cross vine I have..it's one I haven't seen before

The blue "baby" he gave me is growing; I just transplanted it into a bigger pot yesterday.

inside the flower..they are up there in the cherry laurels and it's windy..hard to get photos
