I love your carribean lily. Rita. It's so pretty! I'm surprised to see that it's my zone hardy. The leaves on your plant looks like a crinium but I went to plant file to look at it and leaves photos on plant file does not look as much like the crinium.

anyway, it's beautiful and I'm going to get me one.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Lili,

I got a Dancing lady at Lowes of all places. It looks like it's going dormant. Is that what it should be doing? It really didn't like the cold that we had. Still watering..Is that OK?

Thanks

Hap

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Happ, I don't know about your zone, but in my zone, they die completely down to the ground and comes back up in spring.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Maybe I should stop watering and let it rest?

South/Central, FL(Zone 9a)

Hi all, I follow this thread, but very rarely have time to post anymore. (Grandbaby) I love all the pictures. : )

Anywho, I have a couple of questions for Placenciarita. Your Texas Mountain Laurel is soooo pretty. I grew 2 from seeds last year, they are only about 6 to 8 inches tall right now. My question is will they be a tree, or a bush? I'm really hoping a tree. How much cold do you think they can take? It doesn't get That cold here, but we have had a couple of freezes this year.

If you can, can I see a picture of your whole plant? Thanks ahead of time. : ) Keep up the beautiful pictures, everyone. : )

Skaz, I'm so jealous. Those are expensive to get. But please do not call a monstera a split leaf philodendron. they are not the same plants. Monstera delicosa is much larger and develops cuts and perforations. While Philodendron pertusum only develops cuts and is not as large :)

Buffalo, NY

I've probably asked this before but does anyone know where to get or have Angiopteris evecta that I could get spores or a little plant from?

Dallas, TX

NO tropical gardening today for me it's *38 and raining! BRRRRRR ! Jerry

Red Oak, TX

phughes, hopefully, by the end of the, week you should get enough rain. I know that Zone9 had Globbas (dancing ladies) in various color forms.

Texasbigleaves, I will definately save you a start of the Caribbean lily. I bought them at Lowe's markdown rack. They usually take about 2 yrs. after transplanting to bloom for me.
LiliMerci, here is another picture of the foliage, they are only about 6 -8 " tall.

Sunshinesw, thanks

sorry wrong picture

BlueGlancer, please come back and visit often, I too have 5 grandbabies.
The Texas Mountain Laurel is over 10 ft, it thrives on neglect. I bought a 3 ft 5gal. container about 8 or more years ago. It did not bloom for about 5 yrs after planting, but ever since then, it has been putting on a show. It also has a very nice fragrance.
I trimmed the lower branches to give it more of a tree form. It has been gloomy and raining, not good for picture taking. It will be my pleasure to take a picture of the tree for you as soon as I can.

Rita, have you seen the Ti plants at Wallyworld? Three in a pot for $10.00 about 3 feet tall.
Of course, the plant label was not informative at all.

Christi

You mean it said 'misc. tropicals' ? LOL

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Good morning everyone! I am SO excited, my Brugmansia sanguinea is going to bloom for the first time!!!

You got it, Hetty. No wonder we "not of the tropical world" can't learn anything. Have to guess what it is and then depend on the smart people at DG to help. Without DG, I wouldn't have even known it was a Ti. hahahaha

Buffalo, NY

Congrats Rob :) I have a few in the basement that are showing buds now as well. Under lights right now. Still too cold to put outside.

Buffalo, NY

thanks Rita. It seems to be a pest in Hawaii. Maybe they should dig them up and ship them out to us who want them. I saw them on eBay but I am not going to pay 60 or 70 dollars for one. 5 or 10 maybe but no that!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Patty, you and I had a couple of those dancing ladies in our hands last year at Buchanans, and we both though...naaa..it'll be something else in our gardens that will occupy space for 10 months and bloom for 3 days...in essence we talked each other out of them..they are cute though.

Are there two types of split leaf monstera?
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6249991
there is that one..then there is one that is mixed up with green and white all over..or are they both the same.

Buffalo, NY

Probably both. There are varigated varieties both with the Monstera and Philodendron purtusum. You should see Monstera delicosa "Thi Constellation. It's just gorgous, but 90 dollars for a three inch pot. :) Just a tad out of my league.

Red Oak, TX

LouC, thanks, I will check Wal_Mart for Ti plants, I sure would like to find a few of the new dwarf variety.

robcorreia, you are very lucky, I have tried to grow Brug. Sanguinea sevral times now without any luck. I do not think that they like the heat here in Texas. I am looking forward to enjoying your blooms. What is the yellow flower in your picture? I know that the other is a shrimp plant.

Rj, you and phughes should give the dancing ladies a try, I promise that you will love them. Did we go to Buchanans on our last trip?

Thumbnail by prita
Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes we went to Buchanon's, but I don't think we bought much. I think it was before we went to Another Place in Time.

Okay I remember the dancing ladies, RJ. And though I think they were really pretty, I am trying to not to buy stuff that has that short a bloom season. This spring, I actually have tried to add shrubs that have long bloom seasons, and of course I like my annuals too.

Hey Rita how does your brunfelsia look now? Is it full of blooms? How old & big is yours? I need to check mine and see if the blooms have opened. This is the first year that mine has lots of blooms. It got a few flowers last year, but I guess since it was small it needed time to mature.

Spring break is on the horizon!!!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!

Patty
