That's why I was surprised about Sea Isle; the temps come from Wildwood.

Let us know how the seedlings make out!

You hardened the columbines off right? I have started some and will watch what you do as I have many, many to plant.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Ah, I thought Sea Isle was closer to the Delaware. I think this cold front is coming from the south. That might explain the colder temps in the south, but does not explain the variation along the coast. NJ is just not that big. :)

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

They were hardened off in my unheated utility room. They've endured 40 degrees without any ill effect.

I cant wait to plant something outside but, its too early here.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

oops, I was looking at Saturday night lows. Sunday night is 30 degrees. Looks like I'll be giving the colombines a little extra protection.

North Brunswick, NJ

A little late chiming in but I'm in North Brunswick, between Rte 1 and 27. I also wondered how many of us in Jersey. Have lots of family in South Jersey, a town that time has passed by: Elmer.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I live about 20 miles from Elmer and pass through on our way to Ocean City. Lots of farm land there.

North Brunswick, NJ

Yeah, lots of farmland, some good nurseries around that area also. I like the old-time feel of that area but not sure I could live there being from a very congested, convenient part of the state. Pizza/Chinese every 1/4 mile!!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Sounds familiar gaddict. Pizza/Chinese/Nail salon every 1/4 mile :)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Well, down here in rural south jersey in a town of about 13,000 we have 5 pizzerias, 3 Chinese places and 3 nail salons. LOL

Hey 'gaddict' welcome! My fil lives in North Brunswick, I grew up in Sayreville.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Forgot to say, WELCOME, gaddict.

The Lowe's in Hamilton Twp had some of their Bonnie brand vegetables outside already. I guess they leave them out overnight, because the peppers were all dead. What a shame.

Have been vacationing in Ocean City since I was 9. Went there with my parents and then brought my family. Will be going again this year. Everyone seems to have his or her own favorite piece of the Jersey shore.

Have to check out Elmer. Love old fashioned places--and people. Wish there was really such a place as Mayberry.

What kinds of plants are at Rarefind? (Are they actually "rare?")

Southern NJ, United States(Zone 7a)

We go to Sea Isle for day trips in the summer, and my son and his wife usually rent a place in Ocean City with her parents for a week or so. We use Sea Isle because it's the closest for us. How nice to have those memories and to create the same ones for your own family!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

We were saying that Rarefind is aptly named because the nursery itself is hard to find. Mapquest and Google, etc always have it wrong.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Rarefind does have a lot of hard to find plants. They specialize in Rhodies and Azaleas, but have a large variety of other things including JMs and Magnolias. They have a website with their plant listings.

My favorite piece of the Jersey Shore is called home :)

North Brunswick, NJ

Thanks for all the welcomes. Definitely have to visit Rarefind. Do they have perennial flowers or mostly shrubs & trees? My fiance is from North Brunswick but I grew up in the tank capital of Carteret. Seaside is the place we usually go just for nostalgic reasons I think and the proximity to the park for fishing. Can't wait for that time of year.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Perennials also...

What do you like about Rarefind and how do their prices compare with other places?

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Great selection, great plants, priced comparably to other "better" nurseries. I got a 6 foot Magnolia last year for 65 or 75 dollars. But there are 2 things that make a visit especially worthwhile. One is to walk through the woods where they have many species of rhodies growing. The other is the staff. Very informative, helpful, and generally good natured.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I can't wait... did we decide on a date yet?

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I'm looking at the calendar right now. May 2 (Sat) May 3 (Sun) or May 4 (Mon, but I'd have to ask them to open for us) look good. The following weekend is Mother's Day, the next weekend is HollyAnn in PA, then it's Memorial Day. A big no-no as the traffic would be horrific. June 6 is Well Sweep then June 13, but by then we're getting beyond peak bloom. Cast your votes fellow gardeners!

ps..I would like to have at least 6 attendees (firm) if I ask them to open on a Monday.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Would love to come, but don't count on me. I'm taking mom to the farm in Holmdel on the 3rd for a get-together with the family of the lady that had owned the place. Don't think I could get away. but, I will stop at Delicious Orchards on our way up. It's quite a trip for her, so I don't think another stop would be a good thing. LOL Enjoy it!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm firm, but not sure I can make it. If it's Monday, it's a possibility.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

2nd or 3rd is good for me... figures that's the only monday I am not off that month

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

If people are interested in a Monday (I am) then any in May is good if people don't mind doing the drive after doing a weekend drive to HollyAnn's or Mom's day. That would bring it to the 11th or 18th of May or June 8th.

Yes, Victor, you are :)

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'm open any of those dates.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

either works for me

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

18th might be better... at least there is a day break between Hollyanns
