WOW Arizona has all the colors I just adore. I ran into a Oldtimer and I remembered seeing it when I was looking for that rose for you last year. As I recall it is a HUGE orange. I almost got it. I just love orange roses! Great marshmallow story esp since you got the boy! LOL
Kassia, I bet you are a great nurse. It can be so rewarding. I remember how joyful it was when I worked in OB. You might as well work 12 hours considering all the OT nurses do. You are there anyway. You are going to have a great summer! Are you all better? Tom is still so sick!
So Taylor, I was grocery shopping today and I saw the biggest Easter candy display so I thought of you. It was so hard but I walked on by. They had so many peeps all peeping at me as I walked by.
Addicted to Easter Candy
I wonder which has the longer shelf life: Peeps or Hostess Twinkies?
Peeps...according to Kell's 30 day waiting plan, ha-ha
Kell-yes, Arizona is fantastic, and it IS huge. It is still open from all those days ago, and looks great. It sort of faded into my favorite shades.
At first it looks identical to Chicago Peace, and I know you like that one. But, then more of the orange comes out, as it opens. It is just gorgeous. I had one years ago, but a tree shaded it more and more each year, until it is looking pretty pathetic...
I got this one to put somewhere else in more sun, so I can enjoy it, again.
That Bronze Sunset(was it?)...Bronze something, but not bronze star...anyway, yes! That is a nice one, too. You and Sue were so sweet to hunt that one for me :0) It sure got off with a slow start, but now it is starting to get going, and I'm looking forward to the blooms.
So huge blooms? Looks incredible. You know what I like! LOL. So where is Pretty Sue, she will want it too, I am so sure. I am dying to see http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/gardening/PD/39665/ in person.
Funny, just a few days ago my arms were covered in rose throne cuts from pruning roses and I hated them. I still have not finished my pruning. Tom is not helping me this year. Within a few days I am pulled back into wanting more. I was at Regan's Wednesday and was looking at all their many tree roses. I wonder if they have Arizona in a tree rose. I do not think they have their tree roses online. They have rows of them. I saw a few DA tree roses too but not the 2 I want. They did have Charlotte. I like yellow but it does not seem to go well in my yard. Have you seen Charlotte in person? Are the blooms big and incredible? Should I get it?
Kell-
If you like malibu, have you seen Mardi Gras? I love my Mardi Gras...it has similar colors, but so vibrant!...and it has won awards.
I'm not familiar with Charlotte...and I don't normally go for yellow all by itself, but just love it as a bicolor, mixed with pink, or orange :0)
Sue-
I agree...some of the photos look like it, and others aren't that great. I think it is a hard rose to photograph...even some of the ones of this one I deleted after I took them because they showed too pink or red...
Cocoa-lulu-
here is a link for you. I saw her post this and thought of you and all your jars:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6261625
She used an apothecary jar, and decorated it without plants. This is really similar to a display jar I saw in a department store, only the department stores was much larger.

Kell-
just went to hmf...
it WAS Bronze sunset, and would you know the first set of pictures was posted by you and Sue.
So, did you get one, or just take a picture?...I forgot how pretty it was!
Sue-did you get one?...you can feel safe to come on here now...we've stopped talking about candy and moved to roses, lol...
http://www.helpmefind.com/plant/pl.php?n=44850&tab=10
pss-
Kell, do you know a Jeff Mathis???...the reason I ask Is because I noticed this picture by you said Eugene, OR...
I was pretty darn sure you don't like in Oregon, lol...then I noticed that the top said posted by Jeff Mathis...but clearly he just posted your picture:
http://www.helpmefind.com/plant/pics.php?l=2.37396&nr=-102024
Yeah, I was just going to post that too! Looks like he stole Kell's pic off DG and posted them. Looks like he cropped her name off of one.
No I never got that one Taylor.
There are 2 kinds of candy, Taylor. LOL. Each is as bad as the other in certain ways! LOL I wanted Bronze Sunset but everyone I found had black canes. I fear it is a sickly rose. I want everything you want and probably everything Sue wants. Sue and I love the same things.
Sue, I will have to look back. I bet I have a pic of Arizona then from Zuzu's yard too. I hope they have it as a tree rose though hybrid teas as tea roses can look so odd.
I will go look at this Jeff Mathis. No, I do not know him. My pictures are stolen regularly. I have even found my brug pics on sites in Germany. That was a shock. Also I saw 2 on Flicker from someone from Daves. LOL. I thought Flicker was where you share your own pictures. I have asked twice for them to come down, I need to check again and see if they were. If they are not used for money making, I often let people use them. Most never even ask.
On HMF, they should be their own images too, he even dated them in the comment section as if he took it! I looked under his name and he only has three images submitted, I have a feeling the third one isn't his either.
Sheesh, not even safe to go to Flickr! Now look what I am craving!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/26396724@N05/2882279308/
LOL, my copyright was on the first one. Too funny. I bet it was a HMF computer glitch when I was posting them. I can't imagine anyone would take some one's photos and leave the copyright on.
Look at the color of this one bloom. I love it. http://www.helpmefind.com/plant/pics.php?l=2.37396&nr=49475
I keep thinking of Charlotte. I hate that when I can't get a plant out of my mind. Mainly because they had one that had so many grafts on its head. It screamed buy me, Kelley.
I am almost to embarrassed to go back there though to get it. I was telling Sue the other night that when I went there the other day a LA nursery (one I actually went to when I was in LA with Lali 2 years ago) was there trying to sell bromeliads - a resurgent love of mine. I was all eyes focused like a beam on one of the broms he had in his hand.
I waited for him to leave the office ( I listened at the door with my heart beating wildly in desire) then followed him out to his truck and asked to buy the one whitish one from him. He said OK so I went to my car to get my wallet and while i did that the guy switched it with one not as nice. He put a paperbag sleeve over it so I did not notice the switch. Anyway, I was so jazzed over the deal flying high as a kite that I took the 2 broms and jumped in my car and left.
Well shoot, about an hour later when I was coming down from my high, I realized I had left 2 sedums and a big hanging pot of fancy petunias at the front of the nursery to buy. What made it worse is I had the lady putting out the big pots take the sleeves off each one and help me pick out the biggest one. I almost love the ritual of picking out the best as much as bringing the new plant home. LOL. So you know she knows who left it at the will buy place. They all know me at Regan's so I am so embarrassed.
Also what makes it all so bad is that, that very morning Sue wanted to meet at a nursery near her but I had told her just that morning I had laid in bed promising myself I would not go to another nursery till next week. I told her I just had to be able to keep my promise for at least a few hours. Well within hours I was at Regans. I am so sick. I need an intervention. And yesterday I was off and running buying aloes. HELP ME.
Well I have to dry my hair. Tom is on his way home, he just IMed me. Tonight is sushi date night. Lets not tell him about the broms or aloes. LOL And next week is the big show where I always go nuts on arisaemas and amorphophalluses and I have no money.
Here is the bromeliad that sent me into such a frenzy of lust and need. My 4th brom in this last 2 weeks with those great striations!
Shoot Sue, those are works of art. I was hoping the bakery was here but it is in Perth, Western Australia. Think they do mail order? LOL Look at this one. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26396724@N05/2892288192/in/set-72157607608963237/ Oh I see you saw it. YUM YUM but almost too pretty to eat.
I can't believe it took me 45 minutes to take a pic and write that last post. No wonder my day zooms by. When I get home I will look for my pics of Arizona. I am sure I have some of Zuzu's now famous bush.
Well I must be off. Post more pictures of things I need but do not know it yet. LOL
Zuzu-great pics of Arizona. I especially like the one with the malcolmia in the background.
Sue-you said you couldn't come on here because of the sweets...I promised you it was safe, because we are now talking roses, and here you go and take it back to cupcakes!! LOL!!! too funny.
Kell-
Lucy must be your alter-ego, lol...your story made me laugh :0) But, that really bites that you left that other stuff behind...and what a jerk for switching those on you!
OT here, but does anyone remember when bare root roses used to come with the canes dipped in wax? The first sunny day that came along, there'd be a puddle of wax around the base of the plants. Or, the wax would stay hard due to the weather and the new growth would get all messed up trying to break through the seal it created.
Kell: You need to write a book about all your trials and tribulations. You're too funny !
I used to hate the way our house would smell when my mom and sisters would dye Easter Eggs. One of my little sisters poured leftover blue Easter Egg dye on her head full of naturally blonde hair and it turned it this weird shade of bluish lavender, and she smelled like vinegar for a week.
Is this the same sister that smashed a peeps on the wall?
Sounds like it was fun to grow up in your family :0) Does she color her hair now, and is she as experimental with her hair, as she was back then?
No...the peep smasher went on to bigger and better (?) things...like macaroni art...and we won't even go there!
The blue haired beauty watched one too many episodes of Charlies Angels and ever since then her hair is sort of an ongoing science project! The last time I saw her it was, well..."interesting". (Yeah, that's it: interesting ! LOL )
Kell: 7 kids...6 girls and me. They are currently affectionately referred to as the Menopause Madames.
Dayglo peeps? That's just wrong!
Do they still make those hollow chocolate bunnies? They would collapse after you took one bite out of them.
Put a peep in the microwave and watch what happens...(serial killers got their start doing vile things to peeps)
Someone did a really funny mini vignette scene with peeps as exotic dancers. I didn't save the image, and can't remember what thread it was one, but one was sliding down a pole. They called it a peeps show. It was very tongue in cheek, but so cute you had to smile...all those pudgy peeps, lol...
and another one:
Apparently this is an annual event/contest with the Washington Post. You can read about it here, and see more entries:
http://www.yumsugar.com/1137185
The winner had a mummified peep...made me instantly think of Kell's 30 day old peeps, LOL!
and if you want to "binge" on more photos, here is the gallery from the washington post:

That explains a lot, JD! LOL. The only boy. You best tell Chele what not to do. LOL Are you still babied to death by them? Were you the youngest?
I think you are into Peep abuse, JD. I may have to report you! I just noticed there are no white peeps in my display. I would think that would be illegal! I always prefer the white then the yellow then the maybe I might eat the green. But never the pink and certainly not their new colors. I agree JD, NO dayglo colors for us!
LOL Taylor. Peepdelicious!
I found a bag of my most favorite eggs. They have that thick pastel crust of hardened sugar and are filled with a sugary marshmallow kind of stuff. I try to eat the outside crust off first while it is all in my mouth. If I get desperate and decide to eat the blue ones, I end up with a blue mouth. I eat all the white first then the yellow, the orange and than the green. The pink and purple and most of all the blue are on the NO list. But sometimes I girl has got to close her eyes and eat what is left.
Oh I feel like I am about to get so sick. I have been fighting off a terrible respiratory bug for over a week. My husband has been so sick. Last night we went to a great birthday party at a Cuban restaurant and those mojito pitchers were flowing like water. I think it lowered my resistance. I had one mojito too many. LOL. Well many more than 1 too many. I am feeling like I am dying, I am coughing so much! And a nursery many miles from here has a plant they just got in and they holding for me today and I must go! I am on my 4th oscillococcinum. My DH just left so I am going to sneak out. Oh the things plants drive us to do!
My favorite eggs!
Oh, yes!
Those used to be my very, very favorite ones as a kid. They are still in the top 5 :0)
We should start splitting those bags between us...I only like the colors you don't like, lol...I prefer the blue most, pink next, and then white. The others got trashed or offered to someone else, lol...
Oh, you poor dear. I had to look up oscillococcinum. So, you think you have the flu? I hear this year's flu is the worst, yet. Here they even have had to shut schools down, because it got so bad...You must really want that plant, badly :0)
We don't normally get our flu shots, but did this year about a month ago because hubby heard about how bad it was going to be this year, on the news ...
You know you are definitely right about reducing your immunity. Alcohol depletes your vitamins, especially C.
My husband learned a tip from some South Africans while he visited there. There was some sporting event that turns the whole community into drunkards, and they told him about taking vitamin C and B complex before, and after, a night of drinking.
We tried that the other night after going to a Mexican restaurant and having some strong margaritas. Of course we added advil to the mix, but it worked really well! We didn't feel nearly as bad as we should have, lol...
that just means you didn't drink enough ! lol
Seed, thanks so much for the wonderful photos! I'm really inspired by that fairy garden. My stump is really wide and I think a 'house' of some sort would add some appeal.
kiwiluvsme's did such s beautiful job too. Do terrariums ruin the glass? Sorry, I don't know a thing about them.
Your roses are blooming, right now?
Cocoa-
good point about the water ruining the glass...actually you are right. The tap water (around here anyway), has high lime content, and the lime will eventually collect on the glass, and can even etch it.
After learning that the hard way, I now only water mine with distilled water. So far, all my glass is still in very good shape, and no etching, or lime collection.
Yes, roses are starting to bloom, and yesterday even had two different types of irises blooming...:0)
This is a little dwarf(alene's other love) that aren't supposed to do well here, so I was happy to see it bloom :0)
MMmmm, that iris looks like easter candy :0) I got slightly bitten by the iris bug last year, but need to do more investigating before I go ordering them willy nilly again.
Your an hour away, it's just not right that you have roses blooming.LOL I have some that still haven't broken dormancy. It's looks like a good year tho. Winter '07 it was rainy and the roses never went fully dormant. I Started out the year plagued with BS. Had to to avoid the rose forum with head hung in shame.lol
Thanks for the tip on distilled water, good to know :0)
No, I haven't but I'm sure I'd like it. I always like what Martha comes up with each year, too, but haven't seen that one, either...
I've been buried with taxes, so I haven't been able to get out much, but I'll be out and about soon, and I'll binge on all that stuff ;-)
Place settings sound adorable.

Everywhere I go Easter candy is 50% to 75% off! HELP!
I was so good and then yesterday I had a moment of such weakness. I bought a big thing of pastel M&Ms and 1 box of peep green bunnies.
I ate 2 green bunny peeps and then tossed the rest. I debated letting them get stale but got back some will power. But the M&Ms are here to stay until they are not here anymore. And I do not even like chocolate that much esp milk chocolate. LOL
