March 2009 in the garden.

Nice crocuses Blossom
Here's a couple more to end the month. I planted tulips for maybe a year or two, and then got tired of having to buy new bulbs every year. I even tried a few types that is supposed to naturalize easily but they died on me. I know that it is possible to grow them because I see some lovely clumps in some Sacramento yards. I just don't have the right touch for that. However, a few of the bulbs that I planted about 15 years ago do come back yearly with my leaving it in the ground and not doing anything.

and next to my white planter, I have a white "strip" of gardenias, azaleas, calla lilies, and white roses. (Terri - white strip refers to the fact that I plant white blooming plants in this strip of land LoL - just kidding - I knew you got it this time) ) The first to bloom is the azaleas.

Your tulips look better than my pittiful display Dianne. I planted some of those fancy fringed and parrot tulips a few years ago and they were great the first year and then, well need I say more, I'll post if and when I see one!

I like your white strip - white makes for such a nice fill in arrangements don't you think?

Sounds to me like you work every day elle, you need to try to slow down and get some time for yourself. I know you have to be on the go, go go, but do try to take a few moments out here and there so you don't get yourself feeling any worse.

I bet they are fun, just like a new "kid" to play with!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

LOL! Poor elle and those goats! I bet they are fun. I had some once too and swore never again!

soils, I put my bulbs in nursery cans then sink the can and all into the ground. Makes for easier lifting later for division. And the moles do not get them. You can probably find a GH near you that may give away their old cans... recycle ya know!

Ok, which of us "fools" is going to be starting the "APRIL 2009 in the garden" thread?

I dont have a thing blooming today.. and looks like tomorrow, more of the same.

Linky linky please!! LOL! Not me.. I got no bloomin' bloomers!! LOL!

Welcome Blossom! Looks like things are starting to happen in your garden. It's a huge amount of land!!

Dianne, nice red tulips, is that california poppy there in california?!! Lovely, I don't have much luck with those.
Btw, I would call your 'white planter' a white flower bed!! LoL looks gorgeous anyway!

elle, I'm looking forward to seeing the kids in your garden! Glad you are feeling better.

Hope everyone is doing ok, working hard in their gardens??

Terri, I am here! Been busy cleaning up my garden and working on computer. I just bought a couple of Chinese Fringe plants to put in my brick planter I made. Here's a pic. These plants are purple in color and evergreen as well :)

Cissy - have you tried using that plant for arrangements? I have seen them around, and they bloom quite nicely throughout the winter, but I don't remember if I have come across that plant as being a good potential for cut flowers.

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Nice, bet if you could get a little grouping it would make a nice fill around the neck of a vase or perhaps one of those fab underwater arrangements?

Nice one Cissy! Thanks for going out in the dark to take a picture for us LOL!

The flower reminds me a bit of that lovely Monarda? you have Candee.

Soils, I just got them and this is the first time I have even seen them! I love the color. They are doing good in the planter. I added a couple of small geraniums to break up the color. So far so good!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Cissy - if you ever get the chance to try them out in an arrangement, please let me know what you think!!

(Cissy) San Jose, CA(Zone 9b)

I sure will, Soils. I need to find out more about them as well :)
