how did I miss this thread???
tonight I am making chicken cordon bleu ... pound out boneless skinless chicken... (Randy likes that part)... I usually change between gruyere and swiss cheese.. deli ham... take a couple of pieces of each wrap inside... roll it up... bread it with flower & panko bread crumbs seasoned with salt pepper and thyme... and I put a little olive oil in them to get them real crunchy... bake for 20 - 30 mins... and good to go... I always want to make a potato or rice with it.. Randy usually wants lipton noodles though... always got to bring me down
:)
and you guys have to try marinating pork loin in terakki sauce ... sear on a grill for 10 mins each side and then move it off to indirect heat... OMG is that good... I can honestly say done that way.. we have never had a dried piece of pork... and it's rare to have many left overs... that is what I usually make for my dad on fathers day... he loves it!.. I get one of the costco massive loins.... I cut it in three sections to make it easier to work with... but every year we only get a few pieces left out of that hunk of meat...
pork lion & the deep fried turkey move quick at a party here
Hey! Good Lookin' .......
Mmmmm all that sounds great! Thanks for the input, Allison.
I was thinking about a similar thing for dinner, I would slice the chicken breast, only instead of cordon bleu, I would leave open (butterflied?) and cover in my white sauce (shredded parmesan for cheese) and add spinach on top. Is there a name for that? I love spinach.
How funny, we almost planned the same entrée.
I am going to have to try the teriyaki sauce on the pork, never thought to do that! Good idea!
that sounds good too.. almost like a saltimbocca

I make something similar - pound the chicken and wrap around some cooked chopped brocolli, garlic, mushrooms, white wine and parmesan cheese. Put a slice of swiss on the chicken, then the veggies, wrap and bake.
For fast grilling reciepes I go to Reynolds Wrap web site and try a new one.
This one my family loves, we use different array of veggies and such. The best tip is to cut the veggies big enough so they take 20 minutes to cook. I find if you cut them to small the veggies will turn to mush before the chicken is done. Also..don't forget the
ICE CUBES.....this steams the food and keeps it from sticking.

ice cubes huh?
Yes..just realized the recipes doesn't tell you. I use 1-2 ice cubes per packet. It seems to keep the meat moist and also from sticking to the bottom of the tinfoil.
did you ever try the release foil??... it works great
Last summer I did..Loved it!!

More yummies! Thanks.
wife came home with a bird yesterday - love turkey dinners!! today is the day!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Boy, those are ALL really great-sounding recipes, and I would never have thought of the ice cube trick. What a helpful and interesting thread this is! Thanks Willie and everyone else for the good ideas!
Yesterday was the day here....and it was pretty much Thanksgiving! lol
Garlic & Herb Mashed potatoes, corn, butternut squash baked and seasoned, buttermilk biscuits, gaden veg. & herb stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, rotisserie turkey and no desert.....no room! lol
sounds great celeste!! i had to to do some pleading for stuffing, mashed p's and gravy :) she wanted to keep it a low fat as possible - i told her she didn't have to eat it but i would make them if she didn't want too :)
Bill - hope it was worth every calorie!!! LOL (Bet it was!)
it always is!
Unless it's one of those "wasted calorie" foods like grits. Ugh.....not at all worth the carbs!! LOL
Please share any simple, fast and healthy recipes for this novice!
Yum---nice recipes! I also do a chicken in foil, with chopped shallots, 2 asparagus spears, two chopped mushrooms (exotic ones if you can), a little sherry, & a TBS. of 1/2 & 1/2---each packet serves one person. Never tried ice cubes---the sherry & 1/2 & 1/2 keep chicked moist.
not too many in my brain with those Victor... LOL
I like crock pot recipes since you don't have to stand at the stove and cook.
I do chili, swiss steak, cabbage casserole(like stuffed cabbage but without having to roll them), pork and sauerkraut, pot roast in the crock pot.
I make a mean... non-seafood jambalaya in a crockpot... and tapioca pudding
it's still in the oven and i'm hungry - she made me put carrots in the mashed potato's
She made you?
well i agreed too after a bit of discussion

Beef vegetable soup for tonight---DH is not happy---he thinks he's overly souped, but I like it, esp. on a raw day like today. I will put in carrots, parsnips, chopped collards, celery, tomato, onions, green beans, white beans, & ditalini--plus beef, of course, broth, & a little red wine.
"overly souped".....LOL....love that!!
Bill - carrots IN the mashed potatoes? How does that work?
My wife likes to make soup more than I would like too!
Hmmmmm! That actually sounds pretty good! I wasn't thinking of mashing the carrot first....duh!
One can never have too much soup!!!!!
Tonight was comfort food monday. Kielbasa and pierogis. Of course there were onions and sour cream.
Thinking of something baked for dessert. Maybe some kind of oatmeal and molasses cookie .... mmmmmmm
Yeah, Sherrie, gyros are gooooood!
WILLIE STOP CREEPING ME OUT.... we had pierogis tonight too... no sour cream for me though
I love gyros! Make them all the time .... well, anything "wrapped" is good stuff 'round here!
What's your favorite ingredient combo to wrap, people??
I often do eggs, sausage and cheese wrapped for breakfast.
Allison: Evil minds think alike!!!! ^_^
Made Oatmeal Molasses Cookies last night, only substituted 1/2 the shortening with peanut butter and added chocolate chips, toffee pieces, raisins and chopped pecans.
Still cheaper than buying them!
i don't know about making them - never have - i can eat as many scallops wrapped in bacon as are put in front of me - and i do mean as many are put in front of me -easily could go into triple digits over a few hours.
My DH & DD are the same way..never too many.
cookies sound good Willie... my pierogis came from a place in the town where my parents live.. the town used to be divided 1/2 italian and 1/2 polish... (not like that anymore)... but there are a bunch of stores that still hung around over the years even with the towns decline... you can't beat the authentic craftsmanship in the food they make... all the things they make are still handmade every day... the ones we had were potato/cheese and strawberry... the same place that made these has hot foods every day and the menu changes daily... but be sure for your $5.00 you are going to get a large meal with veggies... I can't eat the whole thing in one sitting.... sometimes for those reasons I miss living there.. but that's where it ends... I only hope someday I will find pizza to match what I grew up with up here.. but I doubt it
