What do you do for fun when not gardening 2?

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Besides eating every brand of candy ever known to man (or woman).

Bartlett, TN(Zone 7b)

lol, yup me too! lol
um.... kill the day online for the most part

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Don't even mention that, Polly. My daughter gave me a box of Godiva for Christmas and I didn't even open it until today. Now it's half gone.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I've stayed away from candy for the most part this winter, except some I got in the mail from an enabler friend. Glad you enjoyed that box of Godiva, Pirl!

Definitely kill the day online!

Bartlett, TN(Zone 7b)

right now I'm fighting these wisdom teeth! I'll be glad when it's over. That explains why I'm online all day long. lol I haven't gotten any house work done. Oh well. lol

Godivas are sooo good. I try to stay AWAY from that! lol

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

If the sun comes out tomorrow and I can fresh air and go out to take snow pictures. If not the rest of those Godivas will be history.

Bartlett, TN(Zone 7b)

lol
Pirl just go play in the snow!
I will be holding down the computer chair! lol

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Pirl, you have to multi-task ;)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I'll call and see if my vanity guy wants to take snow pictures with me - that's multi-tasking!

Bartlett, TN(Zone 7b)

there you go, Just stick some in your pocket! Snack between photos! lol lol
At least you know they won't melt! :D

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Good idea!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

or put the vanity guy in your pocket!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I dont feel so guilty now.
I also stay on the computer a lot.
I make up garden projects( lots of files and sub folders etc.) and ideas just to keep from going stir crazy.
In the long run they will come in handy.
TO-DAY is the day they install the counters and
sink
dishwasher
cook-top
YAAAAA HOOOO
The kitchen will be finished.
I'm going to make soup.
You really take for granted how often you need a pan and flame.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Venue What are you doing up at this hour?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

You're the early bird, Jo Ann!

Take photos as the work is done and then enjoy making your pot of soup.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

ALAS
and
RAAATZ
That was three hours ago.
SIL said there was a lot to do and he doubted I would be frying an egg tomorrow morning.
DD says he doesnt know what he's talking about so my Hope meter rises a bit again.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It's such a beautiful day with the sun creating such great effects on the snow. One more cup of coffee and I'll be out taking photos.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

My gosh you guys get up early.

When we had the leak in the stove fan I was afraid to use the stove, for fear it would warm the exhaust fan pipe up and melt snow into it, and create a worse problem. We went out to eat for three days, and I hated it. I enjoy going out to eat once or twice a week, but not all the time. I can understand you want to get cooking again, Jo Ann.

You must have some picures to post by now, Pirl.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Well, Jo Ann , it was something as stupid as going to work. Yes, Pirl, we're waiting for pics of beatiful snow or the vanity guy, whichever is more becoming to the eye

Bartlett, TN(Zone 7b)

ge you're getting a new kitchen?!? I'm SOOOOOOOOO JEALOUS!!! I need a new one!
Not joking. I still have a mustard yellow stove. No, I am not kidding. Don't laugh. lol

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Well, I had the old olive green ones until about five years ago. I loved that darn stove. I still have the fridge, but it's in the garage now.

Bartlett, TN(Zone 7b)

The stove still works except for 1 back eye. Dh says to heck with it b/c we are not going to be in this starter home forever, but it's still kinda embarrassing. lol Everything else is new and black.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Black and yellow go well together.

Bartlett, TN(Zone 7b)

lol, yea well not mustard yellow. lol

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Here is the line up for the end of the re-do.
Yesterday the counter guys came and installed the counters.
ALAS the mold for Pirls guy was broken and these guys didnt rattle my gate one bit.
The bad news was we had to let the adhesive set for 24 hours.
To day the contractors come to lower the microwave and finish the undercupboard lighting, install faucets and dishwasher and install the cook-top.
The kitchen wont be done yet but at least we can move all the pots and pans and small appliances out of the dinningroom and fry a hamburger and boil water.
The last thing to do is tile the back splashes.
DD is online to find 1 inch glass tiles for less than a fortune. There is a 4 tile high band that is accent around the room where the 6inch square white tile will go. The accent is 25 sq ft. The first tile combo DD chose priced out at $2G's.Thats not happening.
She is online to find a better deal.
I am not footing the bill for the remodling here. I am the color consultant and then she goes ahead and does her own thing, you know how kids are.
I'll post pics when the whole thing is done,

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I remember when we remodeled our kitchen, had to expand it too as it was so small. That was 8 years ago and it took 6 weeks from tear down to finish. Only thing we had contracted out was the granite counter tops, DH did the rest, from the pluming, electrical, cabinet installation, backsplash tiling and hardwood floors, all while working full time. Still amazes me. He's also remodeled the rest of the house, only one bedroom is still left to do.
It's pretty exciting isn't it ge1836 to see the progress and know it's finally done!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I cant wait to fill the dishwasher and stop doing dishes in the laundry tub.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Hi everyone... so I finally find my dear friend Pirl again! woman ! I miss you!!!! but I have been working a lot and reading so DG has been on the back burner for awhile...

anyway, when I am not gardening - (and yes, I believe gardening is the funniest thing I do, and right now I really feel that I need to go back gardening or I will loose my mind... ) I love to read - read 5 books these past few weeks, and or course I get 3 subscriptions to nursing magazines and journals, but also I get Fine Gardening and Garden Gate...
I have a lot to learn about gardening... I really want to increase the amount of veggies I plant and to be able to save some grocery money... let's see if I can do that...

chocolate is also a vice... can't live without it!

Bartlett, TN(Zone 7b)

Hey pirl & everyone, got my little 100 gallon pond installed today!
We still need quite a bit more stone to go up & around & the waterfall sprayer thingy (filtration) and plants, but the "foundation" is essentially done. It was hard, but well worth it. Hostas are going everywhere around the pond, all over the place. It's going to be awesome when finished.

(see I really don't care about the ol yellow stove anyway. lol I'd rather have a "beautiful retreat" outdoors anyday!) XD

That was quite a project. Looks beautiful, what are your plantings going to be?

Bartlett, TN(Zone 7b)

hostas hostas and more hostas. lol
It's all shade back here. It looks a bit sunny now, but that's only because the trees haven't leafed out yet. It's a canopy most of the year. I love hostas and they are so neat, they will be perfect.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm sure it will be beautiful.

Good luck with the dental surgeon this morning! You'll be fine.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

speaking of hostas, one of my co-workers told me that she cuts the flowers of all her hostas... never heard of that before... she said she does not like the flowers!

How much work is to install that pond?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

There's only one hosta I like in flower - Plantaginea. The others just aren't pleasing to my eyes so I try and keep up with removing them. Allowing them to flower uses energy that I'd prefer to have directed to the roots.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I cut all the flowers off mine, also, except for the sweet scented ones like plantaginea, Aphrodite, Honeybells and Royal Standard, all from the plantaginea line, and all white flowered. I love to see the birds and hummers go to them, and they scent the house really well when cut. But the small purple flowered ones, I don't like at all, and cut them all off.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

ok, so it's pretty commom... I don't know, I just love anything that has flowers... but I guess hostas is more for foliage than the flowers... make sense...

I have seen a humminbird on the hosta you gave me Pirl. I took a picture but only got the hummin's behind..lol.... it's a white one ... it grew a lot last year...

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

You don't have to cut them, Kass, if you like them, leave them on. I just don't think they're that attractive, and they start to turn brown quickly.

Did you know some of the flower stalks on hostas are about 6' tall? Like Krossa Regal, and Regal Splendor. If you do like the flowers they make a statement.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Polly, one thing I need is for some of the ones I have to really grow so I can divide then next year... I have a huge area to fill in... but the flowers on the white one are actually big and they look nice...

wow that tall? never seen it... I admire these plants... no matter what they came back beautiful even if I did not give them any fertilizer, compost or anything else... they are very forgiving plants!
I am going to check these 2 ... can just imagine...

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

If the one you're talking about is plantaginea that Pirl sent you, they grow pretty quickly, and will be divisable soon. They do have large flowers.

Do check out Krossa Regal, it's one of my favorites and another good multiplier.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

they are beutiful Polly... I just found some hostas that I want... oh well, no surprise there! and it seems a good price...

I have some tiny ones (miniatures) that Pirl gave me... I just saw them yesterday ... they still green! I love them!
