March Blooms!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You don't need to keep a dome over rhizomes, Nichole. Just plant one or cut it into two pieces. Plant it just like a seed.........and watch it come up. Sinningias have tubers, Kohlerias have rhizomes. You can plant them the same way.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Just to add a little to the mix, rhizomes really do look like worms.Tubers come in a lot of shapes round, squat, tiny little 'bulblets',or very big, like a potato.

Susan...your first strep you were wondering about as far as ID isn't Waterfall. The one I have getting ready to open is white.

WATERFALL---Pristine white flowers. The throat is streaked and blushed w/two-tone purple, that pours out on to the lower lobes. (Lyon)

This AV looks so bright beings it's the only one blooming. I've had it a month. It's 1 of 10 I got from Rob's. It is Ma's Toxic Spill. It makes this cold March bearable. It better go out like a lamb, that's all I can say.

Nice pictures. We are having a big dose of spring here right now,50-70 degrees for several days.Too bad it will probably be followed by a blizzard. LOL.That's how crazy the weather is here.

Lakeview, OR(Zone 7b)

Lynn, How well I know Nebraska. We had a dog we got somewhere asround Dalton. It was in March and it was blizzarding to beat the band. We named the puppy Stormy. For some reason he always had an attitude!

We sometimes get a blizzard in March or once in awhile, even April. The good thing is it melts fast.

Susan,
Your Waterfall looks a lot like 'Franken Vanessa'.Did you ever have that one?
Lynn

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

It looks a little like 'Selkie' too.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

That Optimara Irene is a dream of a plant!!!

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Nope, but when I first stared growing I put leaves down when Kim was here and I did know the names of them when we put them down... Then my new cat Fred knocked over the tray/box they were in and then they had no names... That name does not ring a bell... Then again maybe my brain can't hear it...LOLOL
Hugs,
Susan

The link Lin so kindly posted is a photo of Waterfall . It is white with some blue/violet lines in the throat. Mine has opened it's blossom and it is blooming true as described. I'll take a photo later and post it.

Also, the strep site has a good pic of Waterfall.

You all can tell I either don't read the whole thread or forget what I did see and read. Thanks, Lin and Goldleaf.

Here are my Lowe's rejects looking all cute and healthy. First is the purple. The flower doesn't look it but the bud does.

This one is cornflower blue in real life:

And this is the showiest. Noids all... Today, I dumped the other two because there were bugs in the plastic bags. Maybe just gnats but they didn't look right to me. I'm happy with these three and not taking the chance right now on the other two.

I have always liked Bristol's Blue Water, Gail.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Could you repost them PlantiMcPlanter on the new March 2 blooms for the dial up people? Not being bossy but I know there are a lot of dial up people on the av forum...............That cornflower blue is my favorite color on an african violet.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

For some reason , she is growing slowly (maybe a compact plant?)

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I sure will Gail :) Thanks for the heads up...
