Everyone's pictures are just beautiful! I'd better get the camera out and shoot my recovered noids!

Gorgeous streps Brenda!!! I did an unintentional experment with my episcias this year due to just re-entering the world of gessies (and wanting them ALL)with limited light shelves. Some are in windows, some under lights. Kee wee and the ubiquitous Chocolate soldier did fine in the windows-- blooming almost all winter--the others--not so good (these will all have to be broken down and re-rooted).The Star of bethlehem mother plant is barely hanging on in the window-- the blooms are on stolons I rooted in the fall --still in 3oz solo cups. These have been under lights since Nov. I hope to eventually have them all under lights. I heat with wood and have worried as some mornings it is quite chilly(66°-68°) in here (depending on when/if I get up and stoke the stove), but not for more than a few hours at most. The light stands are in the warmest part of the house tho. any how--lmk if you want to try them again!!

Here is the last picture and it is Crystal Ice.... I also wanted to tell you all that I put down maybe around 35-40 leaves... When I say put down I mean I put them in water as I can root better that way...I put them in water 2-14. and then some more on 2-22 ... Well out of the 2-14 I lost two and killed one with no water and this is what has roots... I am going to let them sit a few more days before I pot them up.. Even a few from 2-22 have tiny roots already... Pretty cool for me as normally I kill more then I root... Last night I also put down leaves into soil and I am going to see how I do with them... It is a little different way then I normally do it ... I just took leaves from my shelfs and put them in... I did not name them as it is no matter to me.... So far I have 24 leaves with roots on them... Yeah....LOL I don't have almost any of them so I am hoping for new one soon....

Susan

Wow! You ladies are so good at growing! Amazingly Beautiful Blooms! I can't grow Strep's but I wish I could enlarge and cut out all these lovely photo's to wallpaper a wall with them!

That is a pretty picture! Name? Reminds me of one I "tried" to grow once called Dibley's Gwen.

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Just lurking and drooling...LOL.
Lynn

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

This is its first bloom so it better not be Gwen as it is suppose to be Crystal Ice. LOL

After I eat my lunch I will take a picture of my blue/purple Leyla... She is beautiful.... So anyone know the name of the first one? Could it be Shenandoah Sophie?

(Zone 1)

It sure is pretty ... and look how big it can get! http://www.gesneriads.ca/strep267.htm

Dibleys Gwen: http://www.dibleys.com/chelsea/2003/gwen.jpg and down towards the bottom of this page: http://www.dibleys.com/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Page_7_8___Streptocarpus_Varieties_41.html

I received Dibley's Gwen in a trade a couple of years ago. It lived about six months ... only Strep I've kept alive for more than a couple of weeks! I need to see if I can find a picture.

(Zone 1)

Susie, I'm sure your's is Crystal Ice ... it just reminded me of Gwen! Crystal Ice is darker in color.

Here's my Dibley's Gwen from a couple of years ago.

Lin,
It looks so good so how did you kill it? I find the more you leave them alone the better they like it...LOLOL Lin, I have a mini strep called Mighty Mouse and I put two of them in a glass kinda fish bowl... Do I put plastic over the top of it and where do they like to be? Like close to light or lower from the bulbs? Thanks for any help.
Hugs,
Susan

Hey Susan, I think your right on that first one ... here is the description for Shenandoah Sophie and that flower fits it to a tee, it's a real beauty!

(Brennan)The Shenandoah Sophie has medium pink, actinomorphic blossoms with a slighter darker pink halo surrounding the white throat. The throat also has a slight yellow flush.

I also love Museum of Art, it looks like a variation of B Tractor Beam which has always been a favorite for me. I have Pink Leyla blooming too and she is a new favorite.

Thanks for the tips on the episcia Gran .... they are mostly foliage plants for me and I don't know if I want to give up light shelf space for them. ^_^ Kohlerias are also big foliage plants (in that I enjoy their foliage as much as their blooms) for me and I do a bit better with them. And since their blooms are more rewarding (IMHO) I'm going to give the extra lights to them for now.

This is Kohleria Dark Walnut and it's blooms remind me of gold fish peeking out!

Susan, do you mean a Mini Sinningia 'Mighty Mouse'? I don't know Strep's so I don't know if there is a Mini Strep of that name.

My Micro Mini Sinningia's are in glass vases ... don't have lids on them anymore as they were staying too wet. I have two teeny ones planted in bottle caps that are sitting down inside my 10 gal aquarium/terrarium for the time being. They were drying out too quickly so I figured the moisture inside the terrarium would help. So far, so good.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Thank you both... Yes Lin I did mean the Mighty Mouse Sinn... I found it between a couple of kohlerias...LOL

Susan

Very cute!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Ok so here is a sinningia question . . . I have a small "worm" that I put in a glass vase. It is covered w/plastic, but I do have holes for circulation. There has been no sign of growth . . . do you think it is because it may be too wet?

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Nic,
I am by no means a pro at these things but Sinns have a bulb not worms.... Sorry I can't help you...
Hugs,
Susan

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

UH-OOOOH! I'm so new at sinns, that I have not yet seen what lurks below the soil.....where did you get your "worm"?

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

LOLOL It is not a real worm it is a rhyzome... but looks kinda like a worm... That is what Kohleria's have but Sinns have a bulb... its round or oval and brownish red... Now like I said I am no pro at this ...
Hugs,
Susan

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Ok, worm = rhizome . . . for me, anyway! LOL I do know that it is a sinningia, though, 'cause that's what I have it labled as . . .

I am so tired from this move I can hardly stay awake . . . that, and both kids have been sick (thankfully NOT at the same time, though), and now DH is under the weather.
