Oh, Robin to add on Alzheimer's is quite a handful. You hit the nail on the head, Victor, purity of soul.
Happy Birthday Redchic01
Robin - so sorry about your niece. That is just plain unfair.
Dave - you caught my attention with that opening. But I think you're right - most times one can be more helpful if one puts aside one's sympathy and compassion (don't get rid of it, I mean, just put it away) and get to work (or help other people get to work) doing what needs to be done.
For me, taking action is the big healer.
Wow-totally missed this thread. Hope your day was a special one!
Robin, I agree with katie... that's just plain unfair. But what always amazes me is that she manages to keep a good spirit in spite of it all. I don't think that I would be able to do that.
DonnieBrooke, what a sad story, but good memories. It was good for the folks that you were working with that you cared too much, which I don't think is possible even if it does make the separation more difficult.
Anita..... I'm glad that you could join us. And yes, it was a special day.
Sharman is on Aricept & it seems to have slowed the progression---when she was tested at Dartmouth, the phys said Alzheimer's is almost 100% in Downs after 40. I spoke with the family yest inquiring about their collie hunt, & Sharm got on the phone to say how much she loved us---very touching.
Wow. I had no idea about the relationship between Downs and Alzheimer's. I hope that, at least, that is giving the researchers more information to work with. It's wonderful that the Aricept is working.
I had no idea about that connection either! Years ago the life expectancy for DS was much lower than today. What a nice thing to hear, Robindog!!
that's for certain!
Yes---some good news amidst the calamities!
There is a sweet lady at church who's older than me now. She is a dear. Her mom is always interested to hear about my great niece, cuz back in the day kids with DS weren't socialized as much, and she said she couldn't send JoAnn away.
I didn't realize the connection either. That is interesting. Sad thing is my niece was 'encouraged' to terminate her pregnancy. The technician was actually put out that her 'suggestion' would be ignored.
I can't believe the TECHNICIAN even felt it was appropriate for her to give an opinion at all. Geez.
When my niece went back for a second screening, the technician just couldn't believe that she would continue the pregnancy. I agree with you that it wasn't any of her business.
And look at all the years of joy she would have been deprived of.....!
Exactly!!
This is a serious conversation and an important one. Part of my mind is stuck on the silly, as always. Jan's qoute about the sweet lady at church who is "older than her now" made me laugh. She used to be younger?
OOPS!! She's always been older than me. That's why I was not an english teacher. :)
lol
You could not be an English teacher because this woman is older than you?? Strange rules.
Go ahead, Jan. Give 'em "what for". :-)
Wow---nosy tech! Usually they don't say anything, even if you ask point blank--ie did you find any lumps? They always say---"Your Dr. will discuss the tests with you at a later date." I just had a bone density---must call Dr. today!
I sure hope that it went ok Robin!!
i once had a tech tell me that i probably would not hear from my doctor until after the holiday weekend - and then proceeded to say that she "saw nothing" i was happy then she was a hogan's heroes fan
Just got on the computer. Oh, Victor, I meant I aintgood wif grammer and such! That's why I couldn't never teech them there kiddies how to rite good.
Robin, hope you get a good report.
Bill, I can hear the tech saying " I saw nutting" in a clipped voice. That brought a smile. Having boys, that was a favorite show in our house.
I'll let you know more when I find out myself, but our little Miss Emma is in the hospital with a very low WBC count. It was under 2 last night. They have been testing her blood for several months with the thought of ruling out leukemia. So, if you think about it say a special prayer for her and her family. Her daddy lost his job in December and their benefits run out at the end of July.
You got it Jan!!!
Oh no. Prayers from here for little Miss Emma (your granddaughter?) for healing and for her daddy to get a new job. Everybody is going through so much these days.

Best for Emma, Jan.
hope everything works out jan
Crossing fingers and saying prayers for Miss Emma, Jan.
Thanks everybody. She is my greatniece. The waiting is the hardest part. I was talking to her mommy this morning and I think a bone marrow test is on the schedule. She is a trooper though. They appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers. I'll let you know when we get results.
best of wishes to Emma
Prayers for all of you---waiting is the hardest part. I have not yet called my Dr.---maybe tomorrow.
Allison, she is in the hospital in Morristown. I don't know from where she was transferred. No news since this morning.
since she is so close I will send her extra prayers.. maybe she will hear them
Morristown Memorial? That's a good hospital.
Maybe? That is good to hear.
I'm wishing you and your niece the best Jan. I'm sure that we all are.
Thanks for the good thoughts.
Let's hope we can get some serious health care reform so that families don't lose their medical coverage when parent's lose their jobs.
Prayers going out for Emily, her family - and all families that find themselves without adequate healthcare coverage.
Take a bucket with a cover (5 gal prefered). Drill a bunch of tiny holes in the cover. Put a bananna, apple in the bottom and put on the cover. If you dont have a cover use some tight nit cloth. Put it in the shade. Every day bring it out at the same time and pull the cover off and put it right back on. You just let some of the fruit flies out. Add some fruit everyonce and a while. If you only have a white bucket, paint it red.
Hummingbirds need more than flowers, you gave them bugs!
I am not sending you to where I found this. As I am too cheap to buy the bucket. Beside paying the shipping they have orange ones at HD and orange will do.
Jan - so hoping all turns out well for Emma....you can count on prayers for her and for all of your family! So sorry to hear that her daddy is out of work......so much stress for the family!!
Robin - good luck with the bone density test results!
