This one is a bit on the independent side.

Ventures off a lttle farther than the others sometimes. Makes me nervous as the hawks have been circling for a few days. So far we still have all 8! ^_^

I have never seen a bunny with markings like that one. It looks as though it went through a stove pipe and ended up with soot stripes. ^_^

They must be a joy to watch every day.

I worry about the little white one. She/he must stand out like a beacon to the hawks :(

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

These are the cutest little things! Makes me think of tribbles. They were cute too! LOL

I sure hope you don't lose any of these precious things!

With heavy heart I post....all the babies are doing fine. Momma & Daddy on the other hand have been moved away.
My next door neighbor who is the one who let the original ones go a few years ago, noticed the neighbor between us had the parents caged. He walked over and asked why he had them penned and he said he was tired of them. So the one who let them loose to begin with said he'd take them and release them at his buddies house miles away. He then caged up Mom & Dad and moved them.
I've been worrying all night that Momma bunny may have had another batch of babies somewhere. They would only be a week to 10 days old...they will not survive without help.
Right at this moment I hate my neighbors.........so not like me, and I can't stand that I feel this way ! I'll get over it im sure.....but if I don't post for a day or 2 im just simmerimg and guarding the babies I have on MY LAND!!

Oh I hope they will be o.k. I know bunnies do not like stress. Especially when they are about to have new babies. Ive been following the pictures - I know the bunnies must like hanging out at your place. I can't believe your dogs get along with them.

For years I had a Flemish Giant female who went to work with me every day - actually she stayed at work and spent her days under my computer chair. A giant rabbit - her name was "Dancing Rabbit". Now I just have Henry - a white New Zealand male - he is about 12 years old.

Oh, pixie, I'm sad for you. That pic says it all!

Sigh....:-(

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I so dislike 'people'. :((((

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

OK--My words are back--What on earth are these people thinking!!!!! (Many expletives deleted) They were not thinking about the well being of those bunnies, who, in spite of them, have survived thus far. They were worried only about their gardens, and the small amount the bunnies might eat--not that they would be very hungry with what you feed them! Why do you suppose they did not consult you before taking such a drastic move! I believe relocating wildlife might be against the law--think of the possible ramifications if every one did this! You might want to inform your neighbors that these babies are your pets--HANDS OFF! I'm getting angrier by the minute, so I will stop there...for now.

Oh - so sorry to hear that, Celeste. That's awful.

I have rarely had any of my rabbits reach old age - nearly all of them were attacked by dogs. Packs of dogs will even tip over the cages and kill the rabbits inside the cages. I hope the bunnies are safe.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

That is so sad!

Oh Pixie, how awful.
I don't think I could be quiet about this.

What nerve! Some people do NOT believe in animal rights. When I was still teaching, the Superintendent of our schools went before the inland-wetlands board to get permission to bulldoze an area bordering on the wetlands---I went & explained there were birds nesting in that brush, plus baby woodchucks & bunnies---I won, but only because of a sympathetic chairman. Good thing I had tenure---

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Similar thing happened to me, Robindog, my school board purchased the land of an older woman who died. The land was adjacent to our school. The old lady had tons of plants and her yard had become a habitat for little critters. Final outcome was we got to rescue the plants and the ag department helped rescue and relocate some bunnies that were nesting. On the school property we already had a science walk, several acres left to nature that had become a study ground for the science and ag students. We relocated the plants there too. But they still bulldozed the property, to make way for the track team's practice grounds. It's a win/lose situation, I think. Tenure helped.

So who do we write??? With Celeste's permission, of course.

Thomaston, CT

Sounds just like our situation, Sharran---this was adjacent to a nature classroom that the state DEP helped to set up----pond, boardwalk---really nice. As a 7th grade science teacher, I used it constantly---so did the 8th grade teacher & 1 high school biology teacher----I retired, the other 2 teachers left, & now the place is impenetrable-----I just talked to the super a few weeks ago about it---told her it needed to be cleaned up & used!

Those little bunnies are just too cute!

I'm very sad for you, Celeste. That neighbor of yours is a big so-and-so! He was very irresponsible to let those bunnies loose in the first place without having them fixed first, but not only that, I guess he didn't think about that fact that they could become a meal for a coyote, hawk or owl. Or maybe that's what he was hoping for. So he is going to let them loose yet again on a friend's property where they can again breed indiscriminately or become food for a predator. Such a shame.

Darn it all, Pixie!! (and a few stronger words, too!)
That's just so not right! I think we ought to organize a march on those neighbors of yours!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Yeah---that!

You guys are GREAT!!! Thank you all for standing behind me, it means more than you'll know.
I'll be back later to start a new thread. Right now I have to go get DGD.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

OK, so the next door neighbor says that the rabbits are munching on his blueberry bushes. He has 4 new bushes planted last year on the far back part of his land....no where near where the rabbits are. I pointed out to him that I have 10-12 BB, within 10 feet of the rabbits and they have never touched one. He said it's because mine are established....so I took him over and showed him 3 that aren't even 2 feet tall yet as they were just planted the year before his. I pointed out that he planted his BB over the knoll where he can't see whats eating them. I also had to point out he planted them near the treeline where bambi makes his apperance and bambi likes BBushes very much.
He then said the rabbits were eating the tops of his garlic, so I asked Hardneck or Softneck? Everything i've read says in spring to ensure large bulbs, cut back any flower stalks that develop....so whats the problem?? He didn't want to talk to me anymore. ^_^

I started a new thread as this one is getting long and I want to leave the unpleasantness behind us. Please join me here........
