I bring Sophie to the window to remind her how well she has it!!!
Sophie Gets a New Hutch!!
Love the bunny stories. We have a wild bunny here named Susie. She had a beautiful little one named Sally who was very friendly, but a neighborhood cat got her. I was calling for her one day last August and found her body under the shrubs in the yard. She must have made it back to the yard to die.
My question: I would like Susie and friends to enjoy the lilies and ferns a little less. What are you feeding the wild bunnies? If they have a dependable source of food, it may not only save my plants, but perhaps they won't wander outside the gated yard. Cats sometimes venture in, but I let the dogs out when I see them (it's not cruel, they can outrun the dogs to the fence). As I told my neighbor, I don't let my dogs into your yard to kill things, please show me the same consideration when it comes to your cat. They have killed song birds, goldfish and bunnies in my yard.
Thats awful! We have a cat here to who stalks the birds and rabbits....not happy with it either! I have 3 bird feeders I fill year round and about 6-8 spring -fall that I fill. Nothing upsets me more than finding feathers under the feeder and paw prints of a cat under the feathers. I don't have to be a detective to know what happened.
I feed the rabbits 'Wild Harvest' rabbit food with Timothy hay in it.
I also put out a carrot, leaf of lettuce, stalk of celery or piece of banana, pineapple or papaya per day. Yesterday it was a carrott, today a stalk of celery, tomorrow it will prob. be a piece of fruit. The fruit helps in their digestion, and it's just my way of giving them a treat daily. They now wait at the end of the ramp(to the front door) for me every morning. If I come out and they aren't right there waiting......they come hopping at me very quickly now. lol 'DH says they have this "Hey Lady..whatcha got today? " look on their faces.

you are too good to those "wild" rabbits :)
Well maybe if i'm good to them they'll be good to me and stay out of my garden. We had good luck last year.......
This morning I was late getting out there, didn't have any fruit cut up for them so I peeled a carrot. I came back in and was making a cup of coffee when I noticed a little bit of commotion at the 'bunny' window. The 2 were duking it out for the last piece of carrot. It seems as if one is a much faster eater than the other. The one who takes it's time and savors every bite got a rude awakening! The other one was still hungry and grabbed the little bit that was left sticking out of it's mouth and quickly shoved it in his own!! The slow eater sniffed around for another piece and when it didn't find one it stomped it's foot. At this point I got another carrot and cut it in half and gave it to them. I think the food fight is over for now. LOL
The wild bunnies look VERY healthy!! Especially after a long cold winter! They hit the bunny lottery when they found you!
I can't take full credit..when their mother died they went 2 houses down for several weeks. Then one morning they were at the window where their mother used to bring them. I do believe they remembered or smelled her scent in the area so they stayed.
and then hit the lottery!!
Good Point!! One lucky bunny!!
That is one spoiled bunny princess!
It's funny because my brother is a chef and he keeps eyeing her. Looks at DH and says" Yup, by fall she ought to fill a pot nicely."
Ouch! Wabbit Season! Duck Season!
Oh, and then he says.."You'll never even know it's her"
DH's face drains....now when brother comes in the house he tells him to stay away from the hutch! lol

i used to know a kid in HS that raised rabbits to eat - brown ones - kid looked like he would end up on a wanted poster later in life
Good point! Those bunnies are too tame to eat---Sophie is so funny----do you think she recognizes her sibs?
I'm not sure if she recognizes them or not, doesn't seem to but I think if she smelled them it might be different.
Sophie is looking good, Celeste! She is as spoiled rotten as my dog!
Karen
lol
WOW, she got huge!
Yes, she's much bigger than I had anticipated. lol
I just KNEW Sophie was somehow related to Harvey.

You say that now Pixie. Wait til she's 6 feet tall!
She might scare the grankids!
Ever think of putting her to work as a model for ads?
Yes, Cadbury! When I saw the comercial I wanted to call and ask if they needed a 'stunt bunny' or need a 'double' as they call it in acting. lol

Love that photo of her in Cadbury Jail! Very cute, Celeste! And what is her Easter present going to be???????
Any special plans for her on Easter??!

She's a beauty! How does she stay so white?
She's very clean, and the dogs give her a good lick every now and then lol
