enchanted with the rufous hb

gorgeous shot of the cardinal--he's posing for sure

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

I love the Fairy Wrens too...they are so beautiful!

Duc...congratulations on your first Hummer...what a beauty!

Onewish..such a cute Titmouse! I still can't get one to hold still for a shot!

Here is the male Red-bellied Woodpecker at the peanut feeder. His girlfriend comes for peanuts everyday also. They are doing a lot of hanging out together!! We are supposed to get 3-5 inches of snow tonight...so maybe spring isn't on the way..whine....

Thanks Pelle and Rose. They are just so tiny and the tiny little tinkling, trilling sound they make is so sweet. Whatever species they are, how wonderful to have them right in the metropolitan area only a few kilometres from the CBD.

This is from the same area back in November. It's not a good shot, but shows the deep blue chest, which made me think it was a Blue Breasted Fairy Wren. I'll await Resin's verdict.

Thanks gw...here is one with a normal beak from late this afternoon. We had sun for a little while and I was able to get a few shots...I was going through withdrawal!

Margaret...cool shot, love the colors. I was wondering what the Fairy Wren sounded like..must he cool to hear them!

Here is my heart-throb...male Eastern Bluebird.

Thumbnail by dellrose
The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Here is a back side view...you can see how blue he is becoming. He has a growth on the back of his left leg...I was concerned about it as he also has one on his right foot and his nostril. I sent pics to the Bluebird Assoc. and they said it was likely benign and similar to a mole on a human...I was relieved.

Here is another view showing the growth on the nostril and his toe. He is very healthy and comes everyday for worms and homemade suet. He looks mad here because I have had to ration the worms today waiting for the new shipment that just arrived.

Margaret love that little "Wren" of yours. Has a tail of one anyway.

Well gosh you just HAVE to love a bird that's called Fairy Wren...is tiny and makes a tinytinkling trilling noise!

SO pretty rose. I had at least a half dozen Blue Birds out front yesterday, but it was so dark and rainy for pics.

nanny--don't let rain stop you from trying a picture
you'd be amazed how well it can turn out

I never used to take them either until a friend told me to try
very pleased with results

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

It's rainy and yucky here too, Nanny. Sure hope I can get out this weekend and take some pictures. My shutter finger is itching!

South Hamilton, MA

Mourning doves were calling this morning. First time that I have heard anything except crows.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Not got a lot of info on Fairy-wrens to look up, but they do look to be Blue-breasted rather than Red-winged

Resin

PERTH, Australia

Thanks Resin. Any clues as to the identity of the other bird?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Margaret, love the Fairy-wrens! Even love the name!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Dellrose, those are fabulous Bluebirds.

Love everyone's pictures!!

This is the first Osprey we've seen since early fall. I thought they stayed here year round, but I guess they're in other areas of our county.

Duc...lucky you to see an Osprey in real life...they are beautiful birds.

Nice shots Luv...that Cardinal is just beautiful!

Burn...I continue to be ga-ga over your Redpolls. That Dee is so cute in the tree!

Thank you all for commenting on the Bluebird...I will eventually bore you with the pictures I take of then. It is an addiction and I can't stop!

We had a snow storm today so I shot the Northern Mockingbird through the window (with the camera..LOL)! This is not a happy bird!!

Thumbnail by dellrose
The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

The storm has brought the Red-winged Blackbirds out of the wood work.

edited to say...the Brown-headed Cowbirds too (female on right)!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

very pretty

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Pelle and Onewish...the birds are really manic today. Right now I can count over 25 Mourning Doves lined up on the barbed wire fence. DH said I should go out and feed them! Duh...LOL!

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Still snowing here, the dark eyed juncos have been up on my deck several times in the last 5 hours to tell me about the snowcover on "their" feeding area. There are only 2 feeders taht they and the goldfinch piggies can access in this mess and nobody is sharing!

another thread just chock full of beautiful birds everybody!
Lots of Juncos already but here is one from New Mexico enjoying a peanut.

a Pine Siskin was getting store bought sunflower seeds at the feeder but the House Finch encouraged him to look elsewhere. This sunflower head is one of two I put in the tree at the start of winter. The seeds are finally almost gone. I'm sure they prefer the store bought ones.

Thumbnail by angele

and finally Pete the Pyrrhuloxia, keeping his eye on me between sunflower seeds. He usually has no trouble getting his turn at the feeder.

Awww Pete, you are such a handsome boy! Nice pics angele!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Pete is adorable!
