Thanks, I am flattered as I am not a photographer. DH is way better. It is a Cannon power shot that I bought after seeing Boojum's in Dec of 2007. I don't know much about all its features. Too lazy to learn. This is H. 'Charmeur' taken today in natural light in the kitchen.

Victor, That is a wow color combo. I am all about trying to get good leaf pairings, Patti

Victor, I agree with Patti.... wow.

Good morning everyone.
I put out a large feeder for finches and chickadees in the fall.
They went thru a 20 pound bag of food in a month.
I noticed a lack of Finches after the end of Dec. and an increase of Juncos.
The food isnt dissapearing as fast either. A week ago I noticed Purple Finches,Gold Finches and Dark eyed Juncos all perched on the feeder.
The feed dissapears at about a quart a day.
Migration has started.
Patti I noticed a Robin ,ours dont return for another week.
So great to see them.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

purple finches showed up last week I dont think they like this cold one keeps on sitting inside the lean-to feeder I built last fall, he is inside it all day just eating and relaxing its like he has his little feet up and just pigging out lol

Ge1836, we have a fair number of Robins that winter over in our yard, but the other day we had our first group of returning ones. They arrived as a big group and looked like a band of maurders marching across the yard. These will most likely not be staying here, but heading further north for the summer. Except for a few weeks in spring we have a pretty constant number. There is a huge group of Robins that winter over on the Cape near Hyannis that at the Winter Bird Count in Dec was suppose to be over 80,000 Robins. That is a lot of Robins living on the Cape for the winter, poor worms! We buy our thistle seed at Job lot. 25 lbs for $25.00 which is the cheapest I have found. It is so nice to hear them all singing on this beautiful sunny morning. Patti

Shelly - any new pics to start a new thread?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

T here are winter Robins in this area too but near the shores of Lake Ontario 30 miles north. The migraters come next week, but I always look for them early.
They stay until that years chicks have flown and then I dont see them until next year.

Its something.

That's a great idea Scicci. One that I definitely agree with. And that picture is the reason why! Very nice.

Schicken, that's more than something. It's pretty!

My computer's so slow this morning that I think that everyone who was online was able to see that before I could! That's good though. Keeps me thinking! Thanks Victor.

The new thread won't work for me, Shelley--can you try again? Loved the bird photos---we've had goldfinches all winter, but no purple finches---just some house finches---I don't feed niger seed---just a hull-less mix of sunflowers, & mixed nuts---all the birds seem to like it. Nice to see a little more yellow on the GFs--spring is near! Mona & Sherrie---very nice cheerful photos!

Try it again! I think it works now. If not, Victors' does. At least half of the time I forget to put the space befoe the link and do that. I drive myself nuts with it sometimes!!
