How different we all are. I lived at an altitude of 6700 feet for 11 years and I had to get cream from the dermatologist just to be able to live there. Go back to that dryness? No mam.......no thank you. I will take this 90+ humidity with the wind any day.
Gessie blooms #6 for February
Isn't it funny how we just want to 'go home' as we get older. I grew up here on the farm, left when I was 17 for college and didn't come home except to visit until I came back to live in an apartment across the street from the retirement home where my father needed help (mom had already passed away). That was 5 or 6 years ago..............I never left again for I was home..............remodeled an old farmhouse down the road from my brother and here I am ........to grow old back home.
I love that light purple!
Nice sinns Jan! Mine must not be getting enough light--I am getting only an occasional bloom here and there.
Jan, Wow, S. speciosa Jack Evens is such a nice color, and Country Justice is so pretty too. I love the little planter/cups, are those ones you painted? I wish I could get some patience and take the time to do something like that! They are really great!
guess I can add this picture since it's a Gessie. I found a leggy Streptocarpella blooming this morning.
Great Sinns. Jan. The little one in the painted pot is so cute!
Lin,
I grew a huge basket of Streptocarpella under my big maple tree all summer.Unfortunately,I let it get so leggy after I brought it inside I finally threw it away.Theres always this year!
Lynn
Jan, love your Jack Evans Speciosa. Gorgeous! What kind of light do you give Sinn. Speciosa? Just wondering if I can grow it under lights.
Thanks!
Shanika
Lynn,
We never see Streptocarpella plants for sale down here! I got cuttings in a trade a few months ago and am surprised they are still alive! My youngest sister in north Georgia buys huge baskets of Streptocarpella every spring, has them in full, blazing hot afternoon sun and they thrive and are always so beautiful. I can't seem to keep them alive for long ... just like their Big Brothers & Sisters, Streptocarpus! They don't like me very much, LOL.
They sell nice baskets of it here in the spring pretty cheap.Mine only gets dappled sun,but by fall it was huge.I am just now trying my hand at Streps.,so I hope they like me..Please...Please LOL.
Lynn
Thanks!
pretty streptocarpella.Lin.
Shanika, I have it under 2 lights on the plant stand, only about 8 inches away from the lights.I think Gail had 4 lights on her stand when she grew it from seed (correct me if I'm wrong Gail please).Go for it,they are beautiful!
We need a new thread..........how are you dialing up , Jan (LOL).............
I did put 4 lights on them when I grew them, but now I have my 2 gro lights in one fixture on every shelf because I have no more sinningias...............but they do love the light.
Next year I am going to only order the Jack Evans purple and Jack Evans red plus the red peloric and the purple peloric.............
Just got home and will have my final teeth with all my implants on March 20th.......hip hip hooray..........has it been worth the 9 months? NO...........
Here is the March thread that M3rma1d started: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/958580/#new
Hi linda;
if you go to garden arts in new smyrna, they usually have beautiful streptocarpella baskets, not to mention all the other beautiful plants they have,
bonnie
Bonnie, Thanks for the reminder! I really do need to take a drive down there to check them out!
