There is something comforting at seeing a new bud pop up.
Gessie blooms #6 for February
"Several days ago I turned around and fell into the corner of the cupboard. I have a dandy bruise right on the shoulder joint. Sound familiar?
We will not be defeated, right?"
Well, MW, we have something in commom--I took a flying leap on the ice last week--got some nasty bruises and am sore as heck, but no broken bones. My knees are still sore. I missed the CT. Flower Show b/c of it. :-(
Gran--I've bought 2 B. bowerae from Logee's in past--I love them! so cute! It does fine for awhile(months), then eventually dies a slow, tortuous death! As a matter of fact, all my mini begonias generally follow that route sooner or later. Don't "think" I overwater. This is one of the few plants that totally challenges me--any ideas why?
The biggest thing with the minis (and all begonias) is letting them dry out between watering, (and very little dilute fertilizer only in spring/summer).That plant is in a 2 1/4" pot, and dries out really fast. They do like humidity-- I mist mine a couple times a day. Other than that it is in an east window and gets just 1-2 hrs of direct light in the winter, only indirect once the trees leaf out.
Hi Goldleaf! It's sure good to be back! I sure missed you! Thanks for the well-wishes for my husband.
Gail, I snapped a few pics of the Codonatanthus 'Vista' for you. I can't really tell about the leaf thickness on yours, but maybe this will help you. Here's a shot of the whole plant. It's not very big at all. I ordered it when I ordered all those variegated and scented Streps from Gary. Remember?
No , they are not the same at all..............but that doesn't mean Kim is right...........mine doesn't have any red on the back, although I have one on the porch that Nan sent me cuttings of that does have red on the back sides...........
I will ask Goldleaf as I sent her cuttings of the one with red on the back side.............Mine marked Vista has tiny tiny leaves that are dark green.
HI Bonnie! What a wonderful find in those $2 Orchids!! I'd love to find them that cheap! When we went on vacation last year, I bought so many plants I had to mail 4 boxes of them home to myself! LOL
And how lucky that you got to meet sweet Lin! If we ever manage to go somewhere other than the panhandle, I'd love to meet her, too. Hopefully I'll get to see Jan again this year. We had breakfast together last year, and she is the sweetest lady you could ever hope to meet! ^_^
Syrumani, thanks for the compliment! I just can't grow AVs unless they're in self-watering pots. AV Startrick (the first pic I posted) is in one of the Oyama pots you sent me last year! They really do the trick for me! Thanks again for sending them!
The one Nan sent you with the red on the back is probably Nematanthus 'Champagne Jam'. She sent me cuttings of that one, too. Much larger leaves, much larger plant in general, and lots of red on the back, right? Tiny plain green leaves sounds like a Codonanthe, not a Codonatanthus.
Rain, I posted on your thread of OT part 2...........we have the same plant.........I gave you a picture from the Gesneriad Reference pages. You are right about the plant Nan sent..........
The official name is listed also.
Has yours from Nan bloomed yet? Mine hasn't, but Nematanthus are never too eager to bloom for me. LOL I don't care, though. I love the leaves so much it doesn't matter if it ever blooms!
Look at the difference in the foliage. The one on the left has girl foliage. Let me look her up. I love Russian avs...........
EK-Goluboglazaia Rossiia (9567) 01/17/2006 (E. Korshunova) Semidouble-double bright blue large star/purple edge. Medium green, pointed. Standard
I am really confused...........but she definitely isn't supposed to have girl foliage...............medium green, pointed.

Always remember that when we order leaves, they aren't always marked right either............
From the angle of the pic, it could look like girl foliage, but I'd say the leaves are ruffled or wavy. The blossoms are fringed, as well. I just did a search for e. korshunova AV's, but none of the pix match what I've got. Oh, well! Another pretty NOID!!
The blooms and foliage on the right hand side match the description to me..............
I think so too! ^_^
I love both of them..............
good morning! pretty pictures everyone.
Gail, your steps are beautiful as always.
Goldleaf,that's awesome strep,nice color.
Welcome back Bonnie, sounds like you had a wonderful time in Fl.

Hi Jan!! I've missed you, too! How have you been? We are trying to firm up vacation plans, but some of that will depend on our money situation. Should be around the same time as last year, but I'll definitely let you know. We've already talked about meeting you again. My family really enjoyed meeting you! When and where is the gessie convention? You know I'll go if I can. Are you going?
Beautiful blooms, Shanika! ^_^
Oh how I would LOVE to go to the Gessie Convention! It's the end of June and it's in Maryland this year: http://www.gesneriadsociety.org/conv2009/index.htm
Sure hope any of y'all who get to attend remember to take oodles of pictures to share!
Are you coming to the convention Amy?
I would so love to meet any/all of you!!!!!!
Hi there Amy,And I enjoyed meeting your family ^_^..I am going to the convention with Tish.I'm hoping we run into Ki while we are there and others from Daves.
Lin.I will be taking plenty of pictures ^_^
GrowHappy, what day will you be at the convention?
Jan, I can come any day since it's right up the road from me. I am honing in on the plant sale Friday night though. LOL Guess that comes as no surprise! I'm sure Ki will be there too. Are you and Tish coming for the whole convention?
Oh how fun that would be to be able to meet a bunch of other DG'ers at a convention! Jan, you should send Ki a d-mail. Maybe all the DG'ers could arrange to meet someplace at the show to say hi, even if it's only for a few minutes!
I am already looking forward to seeing photo's!
I am sitting in south Texas envying all of you who are within range of getting to the convention!
That is a very pretty picture... I am going today to try to put some names back on the ones I don't have. I lost them when dipping in bug stuff...I found one is Inky Fingers and Smooched so this is a start..LOL
Hugs,
Susan
26º??!! Wow, you are very cold up there in Oregon! We are at a pleasant 72º here in Central Florida right now. It's supposed to be in the upper 70's today and low 80's tomorrow, but a cold front is coming through tomorrow night (hopefully bringing us some much needed rain!) and Sunday our high is only going to be around 60º ... What a difference, so unusual for us this time of year, it's really been a weird winter! I have a feeling we may bypass spring altogether and go directly into the hot, humid summer temp's. I don't mind the 80's ... even upper 80's, it's the humidity that I can't take anymore.
We are in a drought and the farmers can't plant..........what a year this is going to be. We haven't had rain in months and it is time to plant the crops. The weather is nice and sunny but no rain......we are getting a cold front tomorrow also. I think I read where it will get down to 45 degrees......grrrr!
I have a friend who moved to Fort Meyer after he retired from the P.O. He and his wife grew up here. I don't understand why he wanted to go back there in that humidity. I hate humidity. This is high desert country so our humidity runs in the 20s in the summer. We don't get much rain at all. I live at the foot of a mountain so we get snow run off until May or June [unless it snows then, and it has before].
