part 4 -- the end.
The hummers were happy and one took up residence under it most of the day..--
for a good stretch of a week till we things returned to the wonderful dreary rain
we enjoy.
But we were entertained with a great show..... one of many pictures of this guy.
DAILY PICS VOL. 185
Great pics everyone!
Beautiful hummer dirt!
Lovely Redpoll burn!
OMG Dirt, that was so funny. Pelle said exactly what I was thinking before I even saw her post. Too funny. Thanks for sharing. You're such a good hummie host!
There used to be a heron rookery on Rte. 2 going west. They had to make it illegal to stop & watch them because of the traffic. The drowned trees are still there, but no herons. I don't know why they left.
That's neat Frank!
you're welcome, Dirt.
Frank, I hand no idea that they nested high up. Thanks for posting that.
That's what will make one bird special...when there's a story to go with it... Love it dirt!
Wow Frank, I thought they would be on the ground.Learned something new today!!
I am seeing fewer and fewer Juncos at the feeders this week. Funny we love/hate to see them arrive in the fall. But we so hate to see them go at the end of winter!
Edited because I can't seem to spell today!! lol

pelletory--great peek a boo cardinal
dirt super pics
Can you imagine?.....
If birds are dinosaurs closest living relative, and are direct descendants of dinosaurs, why do museums always seem to show them as mud colored or green?
I seem to always ask myself that when I see a male wood duck.
Congrats Nanny!!!
Congratulations on the new one Nanny. I've never seen one before.
Nice pics on this thread everyone and thanks for starting it Mrs. Ed!
Good news...I think spring is on the way..spotted the first Eastern Towhee at the brush pile today!! All the birds seem to be singing like crazy too and doing all sorts of funny dances!!
Edited to say that the Kildeer are back!

Beautiful shot Rose!!! Your news gets me excited!
Congrats nanny!
Very nice pics all!
That's a beautiful Towhee dellrose!!
Hi all, just thought I'd share this from Journey North newsletter. It confirms Rose's post above!
Forget the groundhog; the birds have been saying spring is on its way! Robins and cardinals have been singing here in Tennessee for several weeks, and the bluebirds have started checking out nest boxes. The most exciting sign, however, was seeing the first Purple Martin of the year on Monday! Martins and swallows are the first migrants to return in the spring, so it’s a sign that spring migration will soon be here!
I know my cardinals were at it this morning. MAN was THAT a welcome sound.
Looks like one to me MJ!
Next time I visit the Blue Herons I will back up the lense and get a shot from the swamp surface up to the nest so you can see how high they are. I have never seen a nest less than 12 feet high. Most are higher. All I have ever seen were in trees surrounded by water. At the other two nest sites the the Great Egrets and Anhinga also nest. I am watching to see if any of those two nest here later.
Thanks Pelle and Luv!
MJ.. Nice ones! The Robin's and Bluebirds winter here but the Bluebirds have been checking out all the nestboxes and they are doing a lot of wing-waving and chattering. The Robin's have increased in numbers in the past few weeks and are now every where we go and there are dozens and dozens at a time. I also noticed that the Red-winged Blackbirds are starting to make their call also. Eastern Phoebe's have been spotted about a hundred miles s/w of us.
I am really getting antsy...here is a Robin from the other day.
Cute one Pelle...I still haven't gotten a shot of the Dee's!
Great shot Rose!
Lovely Bluebird MJ!
Thanks for that news Frank!
