Resin......What do you make of this Pine Grosbeak with black spots on its breast? Think it might be crossed with some other Grosbeak or just an anomaly? It also has black on its head. There were two of them, but didn't get a shot of the other one which also had black spots plus a white throat.

This shot shows the black spots. Another pic showing the black head to follow.

yw,2v.....luv your pix

pell.....What do you think about the odd Grosbeak? I think it's too late in the UK to hear back from resin tonight.

Marlton, NJ

Hi Ava, I not sure what to think. Unfortunately I don't get them here.

Is there any possibility it could have been something not natural on the bird like a grease type substance? I'm not meaning to offend, I'm just thinking of another possibility.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Yep, I'm also wondering if it is something stuck to the feathers, maybe some resin off a conifer (no, not me, the real thing! ;-) Particularly the black forehead patch, the feathers look as though they might also be a bit matted down.

Hey Roy, can you post a picture of your chair blind?

Bella Vista, AR(Zone 6b)

Whoopee! Today was the first time that I saw a Pileated Woodpecker in my new yard. Not a good picture, but I had to "capture" the moment. haha

Very cool Julie! I would love to see one of these!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Cool Julie! Congrats on capturing the moment. I rarely see Pileated Woodpeckers, so I know how exciting it is when they appear.

2vernes, great pics. I really love that first one of the Yellow-rumped Warbler. I agree with Mrs. Ed. I'd like to see the chair blind too.

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Here's a female blackbird I saw today at Alnwick garden. She's obscured a bit by the rose stems but if you look closely you'll see a worm just disappearing down her throat!

WOW...OUTSTANDING PICS!!!!

Julie, congrats on the Pileated!! I have them too and just love it when I get a glimpse of one. I had one that came to my yard almost everyday over 6 weeks last spring! I am hoping for a repeat this year but who knows.

I have been hoping to spot a Red-winged Blackbird but none yet. But the Purple Finch did make another appearance sunday for lunch!
