clever!

I saw a dried flower shop that painted giant PVC black and had differing height pvc put together for a trendy looking giant vase grouping.

Nery-
Very clever on the faux bamboo!! I love it! That is a great idea

And, that little scoot cart looks like it was always red. That paint holds up better and looks better, than I would have imagined

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

thanks. I used the PVC because I'm tired of the real bamboo rotting on me. Eventually I will do all my plumerias that way.

Trenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Very nice. Much more pleasing than just the plain PVC.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thats a great looking faux bamboo, you could probably do that with any upright material ,like re-bar and paint white instead of the reverse.

I love these great and cheap ideas. Really got a chuckle at the trampoline... ouch!!!

Just yesterday, I just took a tall tomato cage (cheap dollar store variety) and painted it a metallic bronze. I have inverted it over a pot of Brazilian firecracker vine and can't wait for it to climb and bloom to take photos! LOL

I also use a metal framed boudoir chair to keep some of the tall bloomers upright. Right now it is waiting for the Byzantine glads to bloom. They normally fall flat on their bloomin' faces...

A favorite of mine was a old resin birdbath on a stand. I drilled drainage holes in it and added soil and succulents.

I almost wish I hadn't drilled holes in that birdbath as I have an old Primestar post that will be painted a dark metallic color and begs a birdbath on top. It is surrounded by butterfly ginger.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

You can fill the holes with silicone sealer.
Buy it in any hardware dept.
Good on fish tanks and sealing cracked ceramics, coat the bottoms of counter top jars so they wont slip.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

AH ha... that would work but I hate to sacrifice it. Think I need to look for another one... thanks! 8 )

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

My "byzantine" are about to bloom, too. And, they are also falling over, lol...

I found out that they are really gladiolus italicus, and were purchased under the wrong name. Apparently it is really common for these to be mis-named.

I actually prefer the g. italicus color, but most people seem to prefer the darker redish one, to the bright violet/red.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

And apparently they like to flop! LOL What color is yours?

I also intend to use that chair or a fireplace screen to hold up the Crocosmia later this summer. I love them for their summer blooms and hate them for their lazy nature... falling flat on their faces when the blooms open.

I grow a lot of seeds from my hybrid work, but didn't want to spend money on little greenhouse trays. I found that the plastic poly containers that soups come in when you get Chinese food to go have a lid that is exactly the right size to fit snugly on a used 4" pot that annuals come in! I had gotten a bunch of those pots for free from a nursery, so with the lids I have small greenhouse pots that work great, are durable and reusable I know I could have punched holes in the poly containers, but the light coming through the container wall inhibits root growth. Therefore, the 4" pot plus the lid is just the right combo..

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, those take out soup containers are great. I use those, too.

my glads are like these. Kinda bright pinky/purple.

pod, that is a great idea to use the boudoir chair as support. I use those tomato cages cut in whatever height I need to hold stuff like dadhlias, crocosmias, etc.

Seeds, I think I'm gonna spend big bucks at OHG and buy a byzantine from them. Ironic thing is that I believe he gets them from somewhere in TX, in own backyard. But I do trust him to have the right one, so....

Did I ever mention that I was watching a gardenig show where it said it was better to paint supports brown rather than green, because the chances of the green clashing w/ the green of the plant was greater. Not a big deal and I have painted some green which I do not intend to repaint. But just in case somebody is getting ready to pretty up their cages, here's the tip

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I got mine originally from an all native texas nursery, missing their tag.

I've seen the exact same one at nurseries marked byzantine for big bucks, so who knows...

I think going with ohg is a good idea if you want to be really, really sure. I'll let you spend the dough and then I'll just wait and compare mine to yours, lol...

by the way...I emailed that lady on ebay about your item. I asked if she had any more(usually they have tons and keep relisting the same items), and she said no...just wanted to pass that along

There is an old thread comparing the byzantine and italicus from last year. I'll try to find it...

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

ok, will the real byzantine stand up:
here is the picture that best shows it, I think:

and the rest of the whole thread:

basically the byzantine are darker and the flowers are spread out more on the steam in dfferent directions. The italicus are kinda in a straight line/row, and are a lighter pinky purple.

I use old yogurt cups as seedling pots, just ram a screwdriver through the bottom of 8 or 10 at a time to make holes.
Old running shoes make great containers.

Great picture!

I love the sedum in shoes planters.

I was just planting some stuff in a taco bell container today...amazing how many of those food, and fast food containers can be used in the garden...

I like the yogurt cups, too...especially the yogurt cups with the extra compartment at the top, with sprinkles, or crushed oreos, or whatever, because they have the clear lids.

Raleigh, NC

I must be doing something wrong with my semps - they all died. those in the shoes are too cute!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

nice shoe containers. Let me see what I can do with abandoned Birkenstocks tee hee
