Hey DG people, I have this old Spanish Bayonet yucca that has gotten so heavy that it has "laid down" into the yard. I have already edged about 18" around it and it has come over again. Worse yet, it looks like it has two "heads" on it to make it really heavy....
My dilemma is whether to cut it WAY back to a stump or not. I kind of think it would be fun to see the two big stalks of flowers, but it might take a lot out of the plant. Then, if I cut it back after it blooms I don't know if it would have energy to put out new growth for next year.
I will add a picture showing how it looked just two summers ago and you can see how much it has "laid down."
Can't decide what to do...
JulieQ, take it from me you can't kill the thing. I had a clump that got so big, falling over and putting up new growth, that it took over the whole corner of the yard. Finally took the chain saw to it. Dug up all the roots I could and the thing is still sprouting. That was two years ago.
