Come from vol. 5 here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/939568/
Brant Geese. Too far away, and too close to dusk.

Thanks for starting the new thread Resin!

Katlian - where were you when you saw these lovely Yucatan birds? They are so cool!
Cute!
In the Yucatan silly! A couple of years ago we rented a house on the southern coast of Quintana Roo, about 40 miles from the Belize border. We landed in Cancun so we toured down the coast on our way there and drove back up through the jungle in Campeche and Yucatan. I have some fuzzy pictures of the parrots but they're at home so I'll have to post them later.
Well, at least you can see the pretty red tail on your hawk.
Not only is this photo terrible, but I realized too late that this pair was looking for a nesting site and I was sitting in front of the nest box that I built especially for them! I don't normally sit there, but it was in the sun and I was cold. Darn it! I knew that I should have built three boxes and put them near the three hanging plants that they are always attracted to for nesting. Darn it!
Sorry, I didn't mean to sounds snarky there. Here's a photo with the birds actually in it. It's all blurry because I was holding the camera up to the binoculars and it was having trouble focusing. DH remarked that they seemed like very clumsy fliers. They were too busy screeching at each other to pay attention to their flying.
Elphaba, I hope your little birds are persistent and come back to the nest box.
Enjoying your photos everyone.....nothing to add, I don't take any bad pictures (haha). Actually, I usually go through them and delete them as they are taken, adding more room for possible "good" ones. I'll try to remember to leave a few baddies for this thread.
That's not so bad. You can still see the colors. Maybe you could adjust the shadow. Then again, you have so many GREAT Painted Bunting pics!
I took pictures for the backyard bird count b/c it was so dark out, that I couldn't tell what I was seeing. I hoped I'd be able to lighten the pics up enough to tell how many Red-winged Blackbirds, Brown-headed Cowbirds and Grackles there were, but no. This is a lightened photo. I think these were all blackbirds except for maybe one grackle. Still haven't uploaded all my numbers b/c I just don't know.
I keep trying shot like that too Elphaba...trying to show all the birds in my trees. Mine always are awful so they get trashed!!
Don't want to let ya'll down... this weeks bad Cooper's hawk shot from yesterday! Do know that are several to choose from...but this one does offer a different view, so to speak! lol
Tree Swallows . . . a sign of spring coming in and the temperatures getting warmer! But if there is a cold snap after they arrive, they'll gather together in large flocks over places (e.g. lakes) where more food can be found in early spring.
Resin
"No bad pictures" LOL GP. You know, I actually find myself looking to see what really bad ones I can post. Much in the way I look for good ones to post!!!
Me too Marna!
Like oh that's a keeper for the "bad pic" thread...LOL!
Right … "Oh, that's not BAD ENOUGH for the thread!" LOL.
I can see it, but man it IS hiding!!
Are you sure that's your hawk, it looks a lot like mine - is Nebraska NB???
It's lovely to see those birds flying around and I always go outside to watch them, we have an undeveloped area behind my house and a larger plot on the other side of the road, they all swoop down at once and you cannot see a bare branch for a few minutes - then up they go circling and moving a bit further on. Well worth seeing.
Resin: you should come to Central Florida in April/ May when it's nesting season, because in 'Gatorland' the birds all nest inches away fron the walkways, well nobody is going to step down to get at them - it is Gator Land! but a great sight to see, thousands of various egrets and other birds just sitting on their nests, you can see the eggs and the fledglings as they develope and they just don't move. We have season tickets just so that we can keep going at that time of the year.
eek, a fuzzy torpedo!
LOL,
how'd you like to get hit in the bum with THAT sharp beak!!! not me!
Ouch ouch, ouch.
LOL luvs! Actually the Red-tailed Hawk isn't bad.
