Garden Photos of '09......#3

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I once lost a boot at the barn I kept my horse at ..... in the mud at spring time... insult to injury ... fell in the mud trying to get it out... wet muddy sock and butt!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

For Victor and Wha. Men sometime need visuals. Me in Venice during a flood. They don't call me Practical Patti for nothing. DH and son had wet feet all day. Not me. Patti

Now for today's little winter treat or at least what is left of it after the deer had a snack. Patti

Very nice - both!

We used to use old bread bags over our socks into our boots as kids.
And I wanna be in zone 7!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks Victor, I would post one of me in a dry suit, but that would be way too scary. I am trying to clean up all my old photo files so I could lay my hands on one. Just imagine an orange underwater blimp with frog eyes. Not pretty, but a great and warm way to dive in the winter. Patti

debilu, Just wait, we use to be in zone 6! The 7 works for some things, but not others. I try to buy things that are hardy to Z6 just to be safe. We will have some earlier stuff, then we go the other way. Lilac are later here. Gulf stream foolishness. Patti

Way to go ladies. Any word from wha? Now I'm worried that he really did fall in the pond.

nice BB!!

my hibiscus got seasonal disorder when I moved it loved being in a very hot humid truck for five day and it was the end of september the next week I started seeing buds and voila it now blooms for xmas and then it stops in may or june so no flowers for the summer lol not impressed since I got it to bloom outside on the deck

Brook, I love both pics! the bags are great. Here, we all run around in rain gear, or hip waders if it were deep enough for baggies on feet. No kidding! It's entirely common to see someone in hip waders, while not in the river, this time of year!

Too funny! I'm gone for about 6 hours, outside in the yard, and when I come back an entire sitcom episode has occurred. I love it.

Debilu... It can't be a zone 7 thing, my established hellebores have been in bud for over a month now and not a single one has opened yet. However, the ones that I just brought home and planted are filling in the gap just dandy.

last fall I planted some bulb called checkered lilies has anyone grown these

I so want fritts. The meleagris is hardy to my zone but does not like my soil. I am going to put it in my alpine bed.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

or what you can do is do a raised bed 10 inches and plant tons of them hahhaha
I hope mine come up and bloom

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I agree with you completely Dahlia, except it is the rodents that eat mine.

I've been slacking a little on supplying the blooms. Here's one, until after dinner, of one that I took today of one of the hellebores that I brought home last week.

Snowdrops up earlier this year than last, Victor? I seem to recall the end of the month.

My snowdrops are planted over the septic tank. Snow melts first there but its been gone a week now and no sign of activity. Leaves are green but they were green when the snow covered them.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

David... it won't be long and the early birds on this thread will be up with you!! My snow drops aren't doing a thing yet either!

But, Look who I found just starting to set buds? Any guesses? at this rate it's going to beat my hellebores at blooming (i'm not talking about the ones that I just brought home, my established ones haven't opened yet)

no clue what that is RC

Loved the snowdrops & hellebores--no clue, either, Shelley. Here's the photo of my annual scabious--still green after the snow melted--don't know if they'll bloom again or not.

RC, I'll take a stab...are those raspberries??

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

green is a good sign I would think... if that thing blooms again I will be highly impressed... I spotted some of my snapdragons from last year with some color on them

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

Robindog, very inspiring! I took a walk during our one-day heat wave and rain event a couple days ago, and said "Hi" to all my buddies. I'm just afraid with the snow gone that a cold snap will finish off some of them. Happened before. I have everything mulched pretty well, though.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I checked last year's photos, David. First snowdrop pic was Feb 18.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

That early. Had crocus up March 3rd. My first year planting bulbs and I remember how surprised I was when you posted blooms before that (and how surprised I was to see my crocus on the 3rd).

Just took the binoculars and looked out the bathroom widow at my Septic Tank Snowdrops. They are showing signs of life. Couple days more I think. Its the north side of the building and that, I think, is why even with the heat from the tank, they lag a bit. Not enough sun.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Keep in mind that these early ones are in a more sheltered, sunny, south-facing area. The same bulbs emerge later in other parts of the garden.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

It is OK to cheat, Victor? I'm thinking of putting black plastic over the crocus patch when the sun is out. Maybe get a heat lamp too. But that will be next year. You won this year.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Sorry Drumlin, no not raspberries. That sounds good though!

Everyone give? The telling tale is actually in the leaves, even though little.

poppy

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - all's fair in gardening, David. Be careful with the black plastic though. That can heat things up really fast.

O PICK ME! PICK ME (waving hand madly) I think I know. Pulmonaria! Did I get it right? Did I win? Is there a Prize?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Looks like it.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

And the award, an invisible thing in my mind, goes to the person dancing, jumping, and with the waving hand..... Dahlia!!!! Ding, ding, ding. What a winner!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

WHOOOO HOOOO! That made my day RC ^_^

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

lol.... glad I could help :-p
