Morning Linda Kay, what are you up to this glorious Presidents Day..shopping? lazing around???
Stacey, must be your day, just going through more drawers and found 2 cut out....I'm getting excited..I'll have to pick up a roll of saran wrap for those santa's so we're not running around trying to find supplies..need a Stacey list...lol
Best/Worse and What didI learn today-visit with friends #85
Betty-depending on the weather I was thinking maybe the 3rd weekend in March or so-thought that might be late enough to avoid the icky driving conditions...
OOO-what are we gonna do with those?? OOO-I am so excited!! I can't wait-I wish you could take either a Fri or Mon off or both so we could have a long play weekend....but I will take what I can get!!LOL
Morning! Just busy and tired doing normal stuff and working. Said it could snow this week. But no set amounts. The roads have been so good I have gotten spoiled and really dread the snow. Now if it just snowed around the roads I would be a happy camper.
Look what dh did for me while I was at work. He just did it on his own. I look at it and see plants!
Betty as busy as ever. Glad you have an extra day off.
Tubby welcome. Loved the joke! More pictures of your place please! Love pictures. If the birdhouses ever disappear don't ask me where they are. Wish my DH liked going woodwork. He only does it when he has too! I am not a tool person!
Have to go. Work to do before I go to work.
I had to cancel my dr appointment today. I was sick all night. Every little thing I swallowed seemed to stay in my tummy, Like the bottom opening had a string tied around it and nothing could get out. Couldn't upchuck. Horrible. I'm still not feeling up to par. I'll go see him when he's in Dyersburg next Tues.
Beautiful day here. 29* and sunshine. I have flowers peeking through!
Waving hi to everyone.
Welcome Tubby! LOVE your birdhouses! You need to draw up plans for them and sell them. I'd buy them!!
I hope everyone had a great weekend and a warm and loving Valentine's day. DH's birthday wasa friday so we both worked from home then went out to dinner. My parents came up Sat and of course mom and I had to hit the quilt store. Mom didn't buy anything....until she came back in to get me and spyed a stack of civil war fat qtrs. I just bought some fabric for the lining of a purse....and 2 charm packs of "cherries" fabric....and a Mary Engelbreit fabric panel that says "Friends are the flowers in the garden of life".
Of course I had to come home and start sewing. I am trying to finish up the projects I started over a year ago when I wasn't working. I have 2 quilts 1 more wall hanging to add binding to. The quilt I am working on now is made up of Moda fabrics in peachy pink. I plan on giving it to my friend Darcy who is was just diagnosed with cancer so she can keep warm.
I'm also finishing up a spice rack my DH is helping me with. The cabinet above my stove is crammed full of spices and they all fall when ever I open the doors so I tried to find a rack that was big enough but they were about $100. So I figured I could buy the wood and make my own. All I need to do now is stain it but I need to wait until it is warmer to do that. I'll post a picture of all my craft things this week.
Well, I'm off to the house. Kids are out of school today and I went into work for half a day. Now home to work for the rest.
Y'all take care!!
Jeannine
Morning Betty, I was out raking up the new flower garden area. Hubby is helping make a border out of landscape timbers. Got them on sale yesterday for only $1.97, instead of $2.97. So I started cleaning and weeding the area, so he can start building! I am going to fill it wilt angel trumpets. It is 32 feet long and 7 feet wide. It is in the front yard along the side of the driveway! Once he gets everything built, then I need to call and get some soil delivered. So hopefull in a few weeks, it will be ready for planting! Hopeing we don't get any freaky late frost!
Love the birdhouse you made. It is so pretty! All the detail you put into it!
Have you tried to put cushions on the bench, maybe the kitties will use it then?
Have a great day.
LK
Betty, about the bench...and the kitties. You MUST tell them "stay off the bench, do not go on the bench or your in big trouble!" Guarantee, they will then get up there...but it must be off limits first. Thats the way it works in my house. LOL
We have a large window seat in the dining room. I made all these very nice cushions for it and pillows....yep, cat nap area for sure! Then when we adopted Izzy....she got big enough to get up there...and well, lets just say we have no more cushions on the window seat.
Morning all…yep mom is back to normal!!!Something broke in her back bath about 1:30 This morning and there was water everywhere……she did not call me, just.turned off the water….put down towels and went left a message for maintenance and went back to bed. Now she is over making a dessert for lunch with our Church group tomorrow.
Laura and Sean got to see the house when they met the realtor but I was busy that day. Yesterday when we drove by the young man who is moving out was there and we asked if she could show me the yard and he said it wan not a problem and thit I was welcome to see the inside also if she wanted to show me…very nice of him as he is busy trying to move.
I kept losing things before I could post, and I am a slow typist to begin with, so Laura taught me to keep a word window open to do my typing then cut and paste to DG when I was finished.
Sorry Sailor is still having issues…..Porter had a bit of an issue one night last week, but has been okay since (Knock on wood)….
Love that Santa….wish I could get mom to do some more Woodworking……she can’t paint very well any more so gave it all up……I would gladly volunteer to do the painting……not great at it, but I can do a passable job.
Great story Terry!
Don’t give up Betty…..Kitties don’t like fresh paint/stain smells….or a lot of new things for that matter. I have an old Cedar Chest (made for a family friend in 1910). Heli is always watching the bird feeders at the front window so I put the chest and one of her sleeping pads there….it was several weeks before she would get up there….(not until I covered it with Victorian Sanata’s, then she would try to hide behind them so the birds wouldn’t see her) Now it is one of her favorite morning places.
Audrey sorry you aren’t feeling well….hope you are better soon!
Waving to all I have missed, have the granddaughter under foot today so won’t get too much accomplished until time for her to go home….
Trisha, so glad to hear your Mom is doing better! Tell her not to over do it, or she will be hurting. Hope they get her water fixed.
Dropping in on a break..how did I get so off track..lol..must be because I swept the upstairs 3 times this morning..each and every time I go upstairs up comes sawdust..to can't really say cleaning, but making things more organized in the tool room and laundry room..I started to drywall and paint in laundry room, furthest corner of the house at least to make it acceptable..this fall Mike and Darlene said they'd come and we'd rip the tool room apart and drywall and make shelving but for now..move a to b and then b to a..lol
Vicki, love the shelving DH made for you, omg if he can do that he surely can make you birdhouses like 'tubby's....I'm much like you wouldn't mind the snow if it weren't on the roads I have to travel..upstairs I've the front door open and then the front window and it must be 100 degrees from the sun..I put a towel on the bench and put the kitties on it a few times, nope, no go..lay on the floor instead so I might as well put flowers and a few books and make it look country, as you say, few minutes after that they'll be finding a place to lay down...
Stacey, I'm going to take a Monday off when you come, I get off at 3:00 on Friday so we can meet and weather end of March usually is nice, odd storm but you'd have to check that out..now I will have a 4 days weekend at Easter, but sure you want to be with family...the santa's will be sleighs and it's just as easy doing 4 than 1 because of the proceedure..we did them last year on our on-line DG workshop..turned out fabulous..is a quick technique only to make sleigh look as though it's hand painted...we'll be working day/night..just found another project..lol...mostly christmas things -primitive type things you'll be able to do when you get home and use your scroll saw..
Posting so it doesn't go into cybrespace..
Audrey, sorry you've not been well .. can you move your appt. that easily for when you are next in town..lordy if we missed an appt. likely we'd be months before getting another...I walked around the yard this a.m. looking through the gardens, although covered in snow, near the house an odd piece of soil shows itself..no flowers though..I'm way too rushing things.. did you finish the quillow?
Trisha is it cold enough to have burst a pipe? drats, at least she didn't try to move things and fix things..knew better..glad she's feeling much better..
Jeannine, $100 for a spice rack, get those tools out..probably more secure being made..how many bottles of spice will it hold?
Did I post think I did, not sure if you read, I found a quilting machine establishment on Thursday in Barrie..she said for a Queen size it's $300 if quilt pattern is amongst her programs and if we want specialty quilting i.e. the pre stamped quilting as I have on my cross stitch then it likely could be $500. Aunt Muriel is doing mom's right at this moment and she quilts it for $300. not a lot of money for hand quilting but know her eyes/hands are going, I'll wait until she does mom's and then I'll ask her to do mine, if she can't then to the quilters it will go..post photo's please of your quilt tops..always gives us ideas as to patterns...
Trisha/Laura waiting anxiously to hear about the house and all it's possibilities...fingers crossed..
Well changed the birdhouse, thought it might be too easy to get broken so did the Cafe sign in wood....it looks a little top heavy but my plans are to get a little Canadian and USA flag, criss cross and drill holes to accomodate them in the open area of the cafe..think it will look cute...
Managed to get the woodworking shop cleaned, now for the studio..figure by supper I'll be tuckered out..wanted to do drapes but, can't do everything..have to make a call to mom to ask if she still wants faux fireplace done...then I'll know what I must purchase this week then all commitments done...
Stacey, have you seen the wood trio candles done, wood wick and flame and ribbon wrapped around them..cute as a button and probably only cost about $1.50 to make total..found a set of those as well...best I keep cleaning right?
Quick Hi To All
Thanks Fairy! I won't rush out and pull up the creeping jenny now ! Tubby had me worried... :) DH isn't concerned and like I said - it's planted near rocks in a hot spot so if anything the heat might keep it down. Betty - I wonder if that's the same plant. It's called a Euroyps. Sounds like it. I planted it in a corner against a fence. Well - I've learned my lesson. Check Dave's Garden FIRST then buy plants. :)
Love all the flower and yard photos! Out at the local Corn Maze they have a sign up that says something to the effect that " If you want spring to come quickly, take out a Winter Loan that is due in the Spring"...isn't that the truth??
If anyone is interested in Polymer Clay projects or knows someone who is, I have put up an interest thread in the Craft and Decorating Forum. Pass the word along....:)
Isn't she the cutest...have to go check your thread..know you were all talking about it..won't participate, after cleaning woodworking and studio all day, I've loads headed to the garbage..zillion cut projects or projects in a bag waiting to get done so NO MORE new crafts..got to finish what I have..lol good luck though..awsome pieces I've seen in the swaps..
About another hour and laundry room, cutting room and studio will all be dust free and cleaning..won't go the the shelving though..
So best go next door and pick up endust and keep on going..
Betty - How Gorgeous! I think the plants are very similar but yours is prettier....the flowers on mine look more like daisies, your flowers are more full. I love the look of your garden...the plants are all so different and seem to go together so well and compliment one another. The joke with DH & I is that I decided to get into gardening when he was planning to plant 6 indian hawthornes in a row around the pool. No way! said I ....I love the look of many different plants... I wish I knew the names of yours....there are so many I haven't seen around here...I suppose it's too hot.
I liked that story too.
It is also raining a lot here, which we need so despite the flooded streets and some of the burn areas being evacuated, I am happy about it and so are most of the Californians. I pray the fire victims won't be victimized again by mudd slides and after all they survived, won't lose their homes a year or 2 later to mudd and erosion.
Laura I think the plan to buy a house is good. Poor people in the fire areas over there where you live, it breaks my heart. What terror they must have felt before they perished and even those that did not.
B how is your mom and is her mind gone all of the time now?
Laughing Dawn, no her mind is totally with it, spend 3 days taking her to Buffalo last weekend, she's fine, only things I noticed was from time to time she'd forget what she was trying to say or asked me the same thing..shucks, I do that and I've not had a stroke...
Liz was saying Dawn that you were having quite a lot of rain..newcaster just mentioned the gold had to be cancelled several times at the big show because of it..it's either fires or mudslides..feel badly for you..your safe in your area though right??
Did you have today off ? How is the new job going????
Mary all of my gardens are country like, helter skelter no thought behind what I plant or where..not like some of these ladies..hmmmm..Carol...who know where to plant, i.e. sunshine, shade..me, well if they survive great, if not, oh well...
It's so nice to go back into photo's and have a look at the gardens knowing in a few months we'll be playing in the earth..they are calling for a storm coming in for Wedn/Thurs ..knew it was too good to be true...
Although not late, I'm calling it a day, still in my p.j.'s, lordy I work like the dickens when I'm comfy..I'm please with my clean-up day..problem is it's an endless job, no sooner do I get it cleaned up, that I think of another project and wham-oh sawdust again...
Time to have something to eat, warm bath, get a good or 2 out and relax..work tomorrow..Suzanne will be travelling to the city all week so it's back to driving myself..not that I mind...take my time..
Terry I'm not offended either. I don't get offended easily
Look at all of the furries, goodies, and gardens! Love them!
Bummer Betty, I was hoping you could, I wonder why you can't do it.
Well, I'm calling it an early night too. I hope there aren't any mudslides from all of this rain either. Just as long as you don't live on the side of a burnt hill you should be alright. Or on beachfront property that is eroding away, that's not good either. California is hurting big time, I feel for ya'll, and just reminds me why I moved out. I do miss some aspects of it though
Night Night.
Hello To All - Looks like we're getting some Thunderstorms this week as well. Supposed to clear up in time for Mardi Gras this weekend!
Betty - I just showed your garden picture to DH. We are curious as to the tall reddish plant in front of the frame. Also love the frame idea. We've got an area between a path and the fence that we need to fill in something tall & skinny. We found some tall skinny holly but it doesn't fill the whole space. Maybe a picture frame idea like yours will work....
Linda - you sound like me....just can't wait! We have or I guess you say had some Angel Trumpets last year...they were so pretty. They should come back. You are in 9a so you'll probably be ahead of me.... (I'm 8b)
Jeanine - what is "civil war fat qtrs".....just curious....
Oops - I clicked something and now can't read back up to see what everyone had to say....
Maybe more later.
Hugs to All - Mary - Baton Rouge
Received this today Had to share
Recently I overheard a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport. They had announced the departure..
Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said, 'I love you and I wish you enough'.
The daughter replied, 'Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Mom'.
They kissed and the daughter left. The mother walked over to the window where I was seated. Standing there I could see she wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on her privacy but she welcomed me in by asking, 'Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?'.
Yes, I have,' I replied. 'Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever good-bye?'.
'I am old and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is - the next trip back will be for my funeral,' she said.
'When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, 'I wish you enough'. May I ask what that means?'.
She began to smile. 'That's a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone'. She paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail and she smiled even more. 'When we said , 'I wish you enough', we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them'. Then turning toward me, she shared the following as if she were reciting it from memory
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.
I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.
She then began to cry and walked away.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them but then an entire life to forget them.
TAKE TIME TO LIVE....
To all my friends and loved ones, I WISH YOU ENOUGH!!
Gardengirl1204 I'm glad you all like the birdhouses..But the tower one is not my design ..Sister cut pic. out of her friends mag. I just estimated the measurements ..looks very close to pic.So I can't take credit or sell plans..Wouldn't be right.. The post is pretty much mine..There were 2 pic. The second one is like an old warehouse with several little additions .Main building with 7 little buildings attached..I have all the material cut..2 smooth sanded 3 rough cut (barn lumber) It sits on a table type stand.

Tubby
Debbie, your dog looks just like my Shadow. She is 13 now buta loves the snow and rolls and makes doggie snow angels any chance she can get. Sunday night I filled a heart shaped dish with dard chocolate kisses. Monday noon I noticed that it was empty!. Now, Shadow has never eatten anything that was on tables; the floor is fair game, but I can leave my dinner on this low table and she will not touch. But somtime during the night she emptied that candy dish. I called the vet and they were more worried about the foil around the chocolate than the candy. They said if she hadn't gotten sick by now (12 hrs after) she wasn't going to. They gave me four cans of food that would help with the digestion. The woman at the vet said' "is she getting forgetful", and I told her we old people are always forgetful!
So here is this dog we thought was near death last summer eating chocolate and the only thing wrong with her is she farts often and room-clearning farts now.
Yesterday was not a good day. Dog ate my favorite choccies and it is going to cost $300 to do the diagnosis and fix my computer!
Tubby, I done gots a lump in my throat....that is beautiful. It has been a long time since I have heard that one.
Lady, you are lucky she didn't get sick. Dark choc. is the worst for dogs along with the bakers kind. Izzy went through a very rough puppyhood where we almost lost her...several times. She has an eating disorder PICA, just like humans get. Where she eats inedible objects. She has eaten entire dishtowels in one piece!
Here is a chuckle for all of you this morning, my Uncle, who is 85, sent it to me this morning.
Two Little Old Ladies
Two little old ladies were sitting on a park bench outside the local town hall where a flower show was in progress.
The thin one leaned over and Said, 'Life is so boring. We never have any fun any more. For $10 I'd take my clothes off
And streak through that stupid flower show!'
'You're on!' said the other old lady, holding up a $10 bill. The first little old lady slowly fumbled her way out of her clothes and,
Completely naked, streaked (as fast as an old lady can) Through the front door of the flower show.
Waiting outside, her friend soon heard a huge commotion inside the hall, Followed by loud applause and shrill whistling The smiling and naked Old lady came through the exit door surrounded by a cheering crowd.
'What happened?' asked her waiting friend.
'I won 1st prize as Best Dried Arrangement.
Janice, I hope your puppy gets her tummy cleared real soon!
Wow, that is a lot of money for repairs. What is wrong with your computer?
