Best/Worse and What didI learn today-visit with friends #85

Victoria Harbour, ON

Have Suzanne's lamp taken apart, going to try and retape and solder in hopes I can salvage it..that poor stained glass piece for living room window still needs done, put it back on table in hopes I'd get fed up of seeing it and get back to it...so far it hasn't worked

Yet another project awaits..

One of my girlfriends is painting a mailbox...we've not painted since December..better get them back and painting..the tray on the wall is 90% done, just have to clue because of the size what I'll do with it..must finish it at least...

Hopefully this cafe birdhouse will be finished tonight...

Moral of this story:

Regardless of how much space you have, you are never organized nor ever without a project to do..

Would show you the woodworking room but kaos like you've not seen before...lol

One last post:

here is the diner I'm doing..

I think I've made one error though..in the front and sides I made the holes for entry - difficult to see as they are in the black window square...on the backside I painted to look same but no holes..think I'd best make some right or birds might get hurt trying to enter...what do you think?

Betty DW says diner is cute really cute.. I agree you are very talented yourself..How about cross hairs in windows to let birds know they aren't holes..Wouldn't match other windows though..Maybe a star in center..Oh I'm sure you'll come up with something

The sander is an orbital sander by craftsman. Apox, 5" dia.

The post bird house is old fence post..Notched to receive 1" by 6" by 14"..With 1" by 4" on each side Cut on angle to fit against post. Hardest part was keeping each notch on 90 degree to each other. Drilled 2 holes in old framing square to fasten to bottom of post,..Make 1st notch clamp post (lightly so not to rotate)...Unscrew Sq, & rotate Sq & screw to post ,Then turn Sq down to new position Did that make any sense ..Clear as mud to me LOL If you are interested in trying this we can talk on phone .I know I can explain better that way..

Just not so sure I have the tools for notching??? can't believe there would be a tool I don't have..lol..good excuse to go looking, but for what? My drill press doesn't have enough depth now that birdhouse is together but think my girlfriend's husband has a commercial one..I'll get them drilled that way, no confusion for the birdies..I did have a list of diameter for holes for specific birds, must go check further..

Terry your birdhouse if free standing right? think Shar or Carol asked if it is free standing, do birds still come and use lower houses?

I truly will consider doing one and just might take you up on your offer..now when I did the faux fireplace in basement, I borrowed a drillbit from friend Mike, was about 12" long, but you could adjust to go behind the birdhouse which has been positioned to the 4x4 and screw from the back right, (now don't any of you go there) that way you'd not have to notch out????

OMG seeing this project with 4 x 4 reminds me of a coat rack I saw made with 4 x 4 post yesterday, probably about 7' or 8' high..the legs were just a little different that on yours, a slit in a golf bag was made so you push the bag slit over the 4 x 4 and pull the bag down, then on each of the sides with 'u' shaped nails a putter or / or well one of the other type golf (yuk have to call them sticks because I have no clue what they are called - and here my boys are great golfters) are put on each edge positioned to that the end of the 'stick' makes a place to hang coats..then on top of the 4x4 is about 5 or 6 golf balls..absolutely adorable...

I've 2 cd holders which have golf scenes on them cut and ready to put together (have had them for 4 years..lol) now wouldn't that be a nice gift, the cd cabinet and golf tree coat rack..have to see if I can smuggle my camera in next time I'm in town...might get kicked out though..really unique

Don't you just hate watching paint 'dry'?

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-I can't watch paint dry-I think that is why I always am doing several painting projects at once-that way by the time I get done with the 10th item, the first is usually dry!!LOL

Pacifica, CA

lol bet crissy comes home with lots of fun things!

now betty thats what you need lol its a fun tool but dh went to move it to the other side of the garage and still hasnt mounted it to the other work bench bet if i brought it in and put it on the dinning room table that would set off the chain reaction wouldnt have to light a match under his behind lol

hmmm havent heard from miss judy guess i'll have to start the texting lol

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Judy is at the cabin this weekend...

Victoria Harbour, ON

She and Cedric/Bailey must be keeping her busy..Steve must have an indoor project in mind and I'm sure our Judy is helping out..

Not going to tell you 2 that I don't have a zillion projects on the go..sitting here typing with brush dangling from my mouth..off upstairs, not enough tables downstairs in studio..have some glass paint, I cut a clear piece of glass, not sure that's wise but I'll paint CAFE on it then I'll see how without cutting my fingers off how I can mount it to the roof of the birdhouse, then voila..did make my stairs and lights on side of doors..cute..

So off I go yet another attempt to get my weekend ' to do's ' done..

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm right in the middle of the top for the quillow!I was going to make it cribsize, but I want it longer, so tomorrow I go back for the results of the MRI, and I'm going to look for a twinsize batting. If they don't have one, I'll get another cribsize and add on!
I'm not happy with my choice of pattern. Not really a pattern, 4 in. strips, staggered, but matching and blending of pattern and color. So easy to do, I might start another one and keep this one for me!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure it's lovely Audrey..almost sounds as though it's a 'watercolor' look..think you are being too hard on yourself..Let's pray the MRI has good results for you...

Imagine, here I've loads to do and I'm sitting on the couch, reflecting and trying to figure out my next step .. I should know how to finish it but for some reason I've a mental block..the house itself is finished, Betty's Cafe is painted on glass now to figure out how to stabilize it..so while I do the thinking, watching t.v. I've got all my decorating and gardening books out, making piles so I know which is which..contemplating going into town but this nighty is much too comfy..perhaps later...can't even drum up energy to go to the burning pit in the back 40 to burns bits of project wood, old magazines and the likes...need a boost..

Cardiff, ON(Zone 4a)

It's so nice to see pictures of all the projects. Tubby, I love the birdhouses you made. I'll have to take pictures of the moccasins that I'm making for Sonora. I've finished the hardest part so I'm hoping to have them done by the end of this week. I'm babysitting two toddlers though in addition to Ella so I may need my evenings for just relaxing.

On Friday I attended a sleepover with Sonora. I've been helping out with a local youth group so we decided to do a sleepover for the kids. There were 27 kids who came and they really had a lot of fun. Sonora and I made pancakes in the morning. I have a pan with little heart moulds in it so I used that and Sonora did some 'freehand' hearts. I made some rose and teddy bear shaped pancakes too - just for Valentine's day. Keith and I didn't do anything really special for Valentine's, just relaxed. Sonora made the cutest Valentines for her friends this year, she got the idea from something she saw on tv. She cut paper in the shape of pickles then on the inside she wrote, "You mean a great dill (deal) to me. I thought it was really cute. Keith must have too because he wrote that on my facebook wall.

Well, I enjoy your day.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

These are my have to have tools. The saw is sliding compound miter saw ..The sander is new Vibra free by craftsman the Screw gun is 19.3 volt craftsman Use the heck out of the 2 I have Don't have to change from drill bit to screw driver bit...The saw is what I use to notch the post It can be set to depth Better run out & get one Betty..LOL

Gillian, again you've outdone yourself, OMG 27 kids, how many parents were there for the evening..did the girls get 'any' sleep..lol
Imagine, Valentines Day pancakes..too cute..Sonora's learning, so much more meaningful to make the valentines...don't you remember as a child, having to have one for each of your friends, for some reason I think you were measured in popularity status by how many you received...not right is it? remember cutting them out, making and gluing the envelopes!

You do deserve time with your feet up today...

Got lazy about 2am, mind just wasn't functioning so thought I'd take a nap as the sun heated up the living room, then when I was ready to get energetic I had company..so calling it a day..always tomorrow right...

Now Terry, you can see how much work I have in store for me tomorrow..sawdust from one end to the other...I have to 2 shelving units other than these tools stored for use..some not even out of the boxes, i.e. router tools and biscuit joiner..lol..now to learn to use them all..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

My almost finished birdhouse...don't mind the container holding up the glass cafe sign..got to come up with something in the morning when I can focus better....

Hope you are all enjoying your long weekend..

Hello To All;

Thanks for the nice words! They had a blast, ending up at Rico(German)'s Host Mom's house. Betty - Rico wasn't dressed up for the dance, so he wasn't in that picture. But here he is, clowning around with the boys. The Pic has my Brock on the left, Todd, Rico and Chaz. Chaz is Roxanne's boyfriend...we approve! Brock's date was Line...the Norwegian...she is in the other picture with Brock. I've learned so much from having them here this year!

Thanks Sharran for the ideas! It might work to get the whole art/choir etc together to help! I had not thought of that.

I will have to look up Clearwater Beach. I'm thinking it's in Florida?

I couldn't help myself....we went to Home Depot today and I ended up buying/planting: 8 marigolds, 1 celosia, some moss-type plant (around flagstone walk), creeping jenny and euroyp's - yellow daisy type plant. Then tonight I go online to Dave's Garden and find out the last 2 are invasive! Oh well...DH doesn't seem bothered....and both had mostly all positive reviews. So we'll see what happens.

The dinner's looking great..Dose Betty wait tables..LOL

Good evening everyone!

I didn't make it to the pharmacy yesterday, decided to go to Hot Springs, which is 30 minutes the wrong direction, to the Home and Garden Show. It was small with a bunch of local vendors booths set up selling their products and services. They said they were going to have this gardening thing and different backyard designs, they had two different ones with no instruction on how to do it, one was a pool design and the other was a sand design, I don't have a pool and I don't like sand. I bought Tiga a new toy for 50 cents, that's it. Most of the booths were fix-er-upper companies that sold things like new paint, kitchen remodeling, new siding, etc. and my house is only 2 years old so I don't need any of those. I didn't see one single nursery, I didn't see a booth for whoever set up the two backyard displays. $4.00 to get in the door, I felt ripped off. Should have gone to the Liquidation Sale at the State Fairgrounds lol!

I did call the pharmacy before I left and they have an option on their automated thing that if you need a refill to hold you over until you can get to the dr press #1, of course it was Saturday so I'll call them tomorrow when I'm leaving work and see if it was filled.

Well, I got my mom on the phone and she's talking about something, I have no idea lol! She's b*$@!#*^ about one of her husbands relatives for shushing her in the middle of a sentence to eavesdrop on a conversation going on in a booth behind them at a restaurant. The problem is if you don't cut her off she will never quit talking. Now she's complaining about the same people having a concealed weapon license and how stupid it is to have one of those licenses because you can't carry weapons in any building or anything, but if you have a concealed weapon license you can take it in business and what-not. When you're a single woman I dont' think it's a bad idea. She's finally starting to feel better and is in a little less pain today and she is a gabby haze!

Terry, it is so great to meet you! Does your wife chat also? Love the birdhouses, here they would have to be tacked up on a post or tree or something, if they're on the ground snakes will nest in them instead of birds. Not Good! I won one at a fall RU from the mid south.

ROFL, it is great to put a face with the ...ummm...wiseness!

I have had a busy day....running DD back and forth to work, trying to get some projects around the house done....and DH took my van to his friends house to see if they can fix it. The news is NOT good. Something about a computer that reads the engine signals is shot. UGH!

Tomorrow begins the week off for the kids. So will see what fun that brings. LOL If I mention that five letter word "chore" they will both be out the house faster than the speed of light!

I think I am going to turn in for the night.

Sweet dreams everyone

4004 NO to the creeping jenny Bad don't come close to it.Anywhere in the midwest it is HATED..It will choke any plant around it We have all you want free no no..Maybe they won't do that well in your climate ......Keep your eye on them little $#@%&() LOL

Oldest DD Sheree helping dad on new add. Cilla the exchange student from Sweden was up there too But I had to help her down To scared of heights.. But insisted on helping..She still remembers and laughs about needing help down.. The girls call it the someday house..Someday it will get done LOL

Well I planted the Creeping Jenny in one of the hottest places...we'll see how it does... It's on rocks next to the pool.....in HOT sun that in July will get 8+ more hours of sun. Anyone know about the "other" invasive plant I planted today? "Euroyp" ? It's a potential 4-5' plant with yellow daisy like flowers.....?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm worn out tonight.....started out on a bike ride this morning....haven't been in several weeks so a bit our of condition, only did about ten miles as it started to rain and was mid thirties...so off t Starbucks and a Hot Mocha.....had to give Bill a hair cut....then picked up Laura and decided to come back home so she could retrieve some music off of my computer and hook up the DVD player in the work room for my mom.....I figured out out how to put all the card pictures on a DVD so she can have samples up on the screen when she makes new cards. Needed DVD Discs so of we went to the store along with a few other things mom wanted since we were out. by the house Laura and Sean are moving to to look at the yard, and got a chance to look inside also.... going to be nice having them so close. Stopped Back home to start burning the DVD.....decided to go out for Pizza...Sage wanted to show her dad the new necklace she got during her visit with her grandmother today ...that has taken care of my day from 10 am to 9:30 pm.....put Sage to bed, may have a glass of wine then head to bed myself...

Can't believe how well mom is today!! She has just had the IBP 400mg tabs today instead of the Percocet, has been working on card stuff, getting around doing things without the walker with no problem and is pretty much her old self again!!!

Good night to everyone, hopefully I will catch up tomorrow.

Bad words, bad words..drats when will I learn that when you open a photo to have a closer look you lose your entire post...##$% $$#@...

Did start with:

Happy 'Presidents Day' and also 'Family Day' .. all enjoying a long weekend..nice to have mid February..

I've made a decision today, NOT going anywhere near that chesterfield...nope..lost an entire day yesterday being layzy...

Thanks for posting the photo 'tubby' it's always nice to put a face to posts...wow, big undertaking with the house addition..looks more like an entire house being built..I'd offer to help but I'm afraid of heights...

Crissy, how disappointing for you to go to these shows and be charged with nothing within of any value..same here, many of our shows we pay..always worth the $5.00 but still hate being charged for the priveledge of spending my $$$'s...love the birdhouse..lucky you and to have won it at a roundup..no roundups here in Canada, members are too far from each other..think there might be a few without a 100 miles radius..could always do lunch..lol..off you go get that prescription..mom's..lol

Trisha, love the photo, and yes, don't we all feel that way at some point..think mine was yesterday..reminds me of Greg and Mel's pup..your mom must be feeling better to be considering working with making cards..glad the pain is no longer as bad...wow, you sure can pack a lot into a day..reminds me of someone, but who???

Did Laura not get to see the house before they rented it..oh my, might be in for a surprise..let's hope a positive one...as for biking, had typed an entire story of my renting along with friend Diane a bike in Clearwater Florida to do the trail system from Clearwater Beach area to Tarpon springs...what a painful journey that was on the way back..too long to post at this time...think muscles...

Mary those children are adorable..don't quite get the name of the plants with yellow flowers, you say they are tall??? I have some daisy looking yellow flowers that go along the fencing which some years reach 8' or so..lovely and make a nice border..they are semi-invasive (ones I have) they seem to follow the fence line but no where else...do you have a corner of your lot or something that needs hiding (always a tool/junk area somewhere on the land) lol..perhaps you could plant it there...

Debbie did you get your craft supplies out yesterday, know you were going to attempt to do so? yes, remember as though it was today, when you've a list of 'to do's' difficult to find the children...

I've a lot of sand on my property so much of what you plant doesn't do well...positive side, got to dig that pond of mine without hastle of rocks...one buy this year is maybe 3 or 4 lilac trees..mine are dying so perhaps by the time they are finished my new ones will have taken over...

Promised myself that I'll not go near the chesterfield today, can't believe I wasted an entire afternoon/evening laying on the chesterfield..yes I did organize the books but drats..could have done so much more...

Drats, must go clean the rug near fireplace here, see Sailor had an accident...then I'll spend a few hours before undertaking another project to vacuum and tidy up the woodworking room...

Talk later...

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Terry-so nice to put a name with the face!! I thought you were old though form the way you talk and in you pic you look about my mom's age and that isn't old!!LOL How long have you been on DG??

Mary-on the creeping Jenny-I planted it at the base of my Weigela 'wine and roses' and I LOVE it-maybe because it is with a large shrub it is doing OK-I also put 2 plants that for the life of me I can't remember in amongst it...I will have to get a pic for you this spring:) As for the other plant, I have never heard of it?? Do you have a link to it someplace-like in PF??

Betty-I can't wait to come and take pics of you playing with your tools!! Ahhh-to dream that someday I might have that same arsenal-DH isn't interested in tools whatsoever, so not like I would have to worry about him trying to snag them!!LOL

MORNING everyone else!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty if you click the back button it will take you back right to where you left off, and you won't lose your post.

I have nothing going on right now, came to work today to get an extra 8 hours of vacation added, thought it would be a good idea since I'm having a hard time building it up.

Well, I'm going downstairs to get a doughnut and I'm going to start working, lots and lots to get caught up on. Hopefully all of the Hot Check Coordinators will be off today for the holiday and I can just work and work and work. ^_^

Good Morning!!!

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Thanks Fairy1004 I'am 63 pushing 64 (april) That pic was 8 yrs ago And before cancer.. That aged me even I can see it Wrinkles LOL
Reminds me of a joke

After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later.
The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my Social Security application.
When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office.
She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability, too.'

Now I hope no one is offended !!
I'm bad I know!!

Crissy I'm going to try that and if you are right, I'll kick myself for not knowing that..all these years, the posts that I have lost, drats girl, where were you all those times with this handy bit of into? lol
Fantastic Crissy, you felt like working and now you'll have a day to play when it's at your picking...and a donut to boot...

Crissy, copied the above, then tried the 'back' thing..nope lost my typed post I hadn't sent as yet...

Stacey, while waiting for paint to dry, think I've got the glass Cafe sign installation figured out, I'm cleaning the back room, sawdust and wood..came across an extra wreath hanger of santa and thought, put this aside for my Stacey..so you must for sure come and visit..I was also going to arrange to go to Meaford in a week or so to look at all the pretty garden things and boutiques, thought I'd wait for that as well, so best you figure out a date so I can mark my calendar and look forward to your visit..

Roger used to laugh, although he had mega tools, I always had my own, but at Christmas as he love to cook I'd buy his appliances/kitchen gadgets etc and he'd buy me tools..we'd often laugh, 'something is definately wrong with this picture' when he passed on, Greg took all his tools....Jeff is not interested in tools..with a birthday coming up, must pick something special at Home Depot in the line of tools, always get gift certificate for it..lol
that or the Garden Center, they can't go wrong with that choice...

I'm laughing so hard that I'm gasping for air...they say that laughter cured all, especially depression, keep this up and we'll all be flying high..

I'm not offended as long as DG watchdogs aren't..lol

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I have heard that one B4 Terry-but it is funnier when told in the 1st person and from a man!!LOL

Betty-when do you all usually stop getting pelted by snow?? THat is what I am waiting on-the weather to clear....and that santa is tooooo cute:)

Betty-isn't YOUR Bday coming up??

Lyndonville, NY

Oh Tubby, I had a very good laugh over that one! Sending that to DH!

Betty, I didn't get the craft supplies out. I started cleaning the kitchen, then ended up doing a few odds and ends....and playing with the dog. She decided she was going to sit on my lap...so I let her. Now that I am black and blue this morning....I should have known! LOL

DH worked on the computer again last night...he is afraid it is going to go "kaboom" so....If I disappear....you know why!

Perhaps I will try and get the crafts out today. I purchased two little pots from the Christmas Shop and want to decorate them before I plant the seeds in them. They just need a bit of color.

Betty, I for one am glad you listened to your body....and rested! You have been fighting quite some time with a virus....and you need to recouperate before your in bed for two weeks straight!

Well, the coffee is ready...DH surprised me with a bag of Dunkin Donuts ground coffee....and it is soooo good! So during the week, I treat myself now and then.

Have a good day.

Here is my puppy that was requiring major love and snuggles.

Furries and doggies, omg Debbie look at the size ..no wonder you are black and blue, when Sailor wants to play she takes her paw and claws..ouch..tell DH he has to fix that computer as we can't have you not able to access us..nope...need our fix..

Disappointed, made that bench for kitties because they were always in the window on tippie toes, sun shinning through drats they won't go near it..oh well maybe in a few days..

As for the weather Stacey, anytime from now till end of March is our winter..you'd think it was spring today, cold but sunny..so you would just have to watch the weather station..nothing planned for several weeks so you could just call and come for the weekend...

I've the step stool trying to tidy in the laundry room, you know what fell, 2 cloth victorian santa's so putting that in my pile, sleighs are quick, probably no more than a couple of hours so that will be a must to do...I'll even cut the white backing off the santa's for you..you'll have to tell me a few more things that interest you, don't want to run out of projects..as though that could happen..lol

Morning everyone. Hope you all had a great week-end.
