Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

You still have some time to work on it--good luck!

Mid, ID(Zone 3b)

I loved catching up here last night!! So many beautiful pictures and I had been missing out by being so busy!

I started a Feb III blooms thread with this one being so long and me wanting to say HI! I hope I remember how to do a link...

Gail this is my first bloom on a young plant I grew from the leaves we traded this past summer. Al's Pal, love the little extra with this bloom.

Brenda, I am so excited you are back! I can't believe this................so happy I don't know what to say.............glad you have started another thread for the dial up people.

I just love Al's Pal as I always love it when the center of the bloom has something extra going on.....

Question on streps: Are there smaller growing varieties of streps? I have limited space but I really want to try growing them again.

yes there is,theres fernwoods siloette and fernwoods minuet, and little one and several other smaller growing ones, the good thing about streps you can trim them to fit your area
just get a pair of pinkin scissors and you should be fine, they will trim the leaf down and make it look like it grew that way

Here is a small one mortswife- Calico print. The blooms face upwards instead of sideways/down.

I want that one so bad.. I had just got one when Kim came down and since she loves flamingos I gave it to her.. Now I can't find it...I want Iced Pink Flamingo and I want it NOW... do I sound like Violet in The Chocolate factory..
Hugs,
Susan
PS Very beautiful flowers....^_^

Love calico print and that is a great shot of Goose egg--It's a hard one to get on camera

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Susan, I'd be happy to send you a leaf cutting when the weather breaks. I think I have you down for this and one other one( I forgot the name, but I know the plant!) Sounds like The Chocolate Factory is a good movie. Is it on DVD now?

Phoebe- You are SO right about Goose egg. If you don't get the lighting just right, the pic turns out horribly. I can remember taking at least 15 shots on a prior occasion and the shot still wasn't good!

Wow, everyone's blooms look so fabulous! I've been caught with strep fever (very unlike strep throat). I've got some seeds coming of Wisemore blend from Pinetree Gardens so I have to learn what to do with them. I'm off to the sticky!

I have a blue and a pink Weismoore.............they are great looking. I have been wanting to try some seeds as there are 18 distinct different flowers in the seed you order......have to go back and see where you got them.

I saw the strep seeds on the site but how did you find out that there were Weismoore? Thanks
gail

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

I think I've seen them at Park seed...brb

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

gail,

In the Pinetree paper catalog it says:

"829. STREPTOCARPUS-WIESMOOR FORMULA MIX Also known as Cape Primrose. The velvet green foliage cascades from a pot or basket and is covered with pendulous blooms, over an inch across. This is the originator's strain and colors include pink, blue, white, red and bicolors. Germinates in about 3 weeks.
20 seeds $1.80"

Cheap enough for me to try! Here's the link again if you need it:

BTW, it doesn't say it on the website...but it does in the catalog :)

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Yep-- that is the site:) doesn't give much info at all

What fun you are going to have. I love to grow streps from seeds. I just use a very light mix........maybe one part peat moss and 2 parts perlite and one part vermiculite............Goldleaf says hers take about 10 days. Mine take longer, but I do cover the seeds with that real fine....real fine vermiculite.

Thanks everyone!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

You can bet when the seeds get here, I'll be looking for hand holders as I go LOL! Gessiegail, is that last pic your blue Weismoor? It looks very cool...

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Doesn't she have a 'cool' different look to her? I love the Weismoor streps and haven't seen an ugly one yet.
I saw some on ebay not long ago...........

Between these photos and the other thread with all the babies, I'm getting pretty excited about these streps. Never grew them before but I love the blooms!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You are treading on dangerous territory, PlantimcPlanter.............

Two years ago I didn't know what a strep was and today............tah...........dah..........I counted my streps the other day and not counting trays and trays of leaves, I have over 375 plants now! I don't have room on the gro light stands to grow other things, but my front porch is wrapped in poly with heaters so I can still start hoyas, etc out there.

It is the biggest plant addiction to date with me!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

OMG, gessiegail! That's quite a collection :)

You know my front porch is really big and it faces south...and it could be wrapped in poly I'll bet. Oh, oh...ROFL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Poly makes me a greenhouse during the winter.
