You are doing great with your camera.........love your streps. I think the one I marked at Party Girl is not but I don't know who she is then........
Also, don't shoot a picture with light in the background will help a lot also..........

I love Bristol's Sixth Scents!!

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks Gail!
I'm still fooling around with the cam, trying to find what works best. I find that if I shoot it with low light, the pic comes out blurry. Not sure how to work around that one. Will keep playing with it(until I get me a new camera!) LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh......i thought you had a new camera.........maybe yours has the 'wait' until focused button when you take a picture.........my last camera was like that....you pushed the button down half way until focused.......

If you don't have a new camera, those are great pictures!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Morning! All I can say is wow, wow, wow ^_^ Beautiful!

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh my gosh, you guys. What beautiful flowers. I want one of each!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

B-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l, Gail and GrowHappy! I love each one. Is Bristol's Sixth Scents fragrant? Are you converting more to streps now, GrowHappy, over violets?

I'll add a few of my own. Here's Inky Fingers.

I want one of each, too! ^_^.
I especially love the Sunkist Strawberry Fizz. The flower is georgeous.

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

This is Canterbury Surprise that has nice variegated leaves. I have crossed two blossoms of CS with Purple Panda in hopes I might get a two tone flower on variegated foliage.

This is good ol' Purple Panda that I used to cross with Canterbury Surprise.

Great bloom on Canterbury Surprise. Mine won't bloom. She just sits and grows with no flowers. I love to think I might have a bloom that awesome.

Can't wait to see what your hybridizing efforts produce!

WOW! WOW! WOW!

These gorgeous blooms make my day! If anyone is having a bad day and all they need to do is log on to the AV forum for a dose of the beauty that surrounds us!

I love Strep Fancy Pants ... that is one amazing bloom. Is it considered a fantasy bloom? or is the fantasy bloom only with AV's? It sure is gorgeous. Aaaah, my list of favorites would be very long though ... love Blueberry Butterflies and Raspberry Velvet ... really looks like those blooms are velvet textured! Remembering John has been a favorite of mine since the very first photo I saw on this forum a couple of years ago. I also like that one called Hot Time Tonight, even if it is deformed, there's just something unique about it!

Growhappy: Night Beacon is Beautiful! I am really drawn to the deep colors of Strep blooms!

GoldLeaf: I love, love, love Inky Fingers with the darker center and lighter outer bloom! So pretty!

Keep em' coming ... I never tire of seeing all these lovely blooms!

(Zone 1)

Oooh, I bet the cross between those two is going to really be nice!

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Gold Leaf- I actually have only a handful of AVs right now, but love them dearly. Streps constitute the largest part of my gessie collection, though. I really love your Purple Panda and Rainbow's end. I prefer dark colored streps, even if with different colored throats, to the pastels.

Sixth Scents is described in Rob's catalog as being scented, but it is not and has not ever been for me. Can't smell a thing!

Off to check if Lyndon Lyons has updated their catalog with the 2009 listings!

Have a great day ladies(and gents)!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

GH, Interesting what you said about not detecting a scent from Bristol's Sixth Scents. I have never been able to detect a fragrance from any that are supposed to be fragrant and I think I have a keen sense of smell.

Check out this seedpod on Iced Wine (variegated) x Azure Giant. It is over 5" long!

GoldLeaf, can't wait to see what you get from that cross. I bet it's going to be beautiful. Sarah

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks...I sure hope so but you never know. That's the fun and surprise of it.

Okay, we need some other gessies...violets, etc. ^_^

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Gold Leaf--I love watching other growers hybridize! Make sure you post your progress. All the streps are beautiful! Rainbow's End goes the outstanding list! It is 60= degrees here today--I'm loving it! I might have a sub-acute case of spring fever!

EDIT--Oh yeah--I've had 3 scented streps--couldn't smell one of them! I have B. Goose Egg blooming right now--can't smell a thing!

Only Gessie's I have left besides my Chirita's (which haven't bloomed in a long time) are these two Micro Mini Sinningia's.

Spring will be here before we know it! We had a beautiful sunny, breezy and warm 82 degrees here today! I wish it would stay like that year round ... low humidity, very pleasant for being outside!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Goldleaf has always been my heroine in the gessie field of growing! I bet she gets some real winners with her own choice of names!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I've got some violets blooming. I'll take some pix tonite after I get home from the meeting.

Does anyone use u-pins on their episcias? Violetbarn says to use them when grooming episcias. I googled u pin, and I guess they're used for jewelry, which makes me think I can get them at Walmart or Hobby Lobby. But, if they're metal, wouldn't they rust in the soil?

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Look what I found when I got home from work! Not the greatest pic--but the bloom is gorgeous!!

Awwww--you so lucky you have a meeting! Learn something for me---or better yet, take a pic of something good!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I didn't bring my camera . . . sorry. But, tonite's "lesson" is on creating a "natural garden".

I did bring my Tiny Wood Trail, though. The thing is green and bushy, but has not one bloom on it. I'm hoping someone can give me an idea what to do with it!

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks to all of you for posting such beautiful blooms. I'm not having much success growing streps so I love to drool over all these great colors and blooms. It really is cheering to go down thru this thread and enjoy the great colors and blooms.. Keep posting as many pictures as you can, and I will certainly not care if the thread is "hogged" or not.LOL Lurker Lou

Lou,
I'm still a lurker too.......LOL.All of these gorgeous pictures are what has made me decide to jump back in.Shame on me.....(not really).

Your streps are to die for ladies!!! I hope to have some blooms soon to post-tho nothing as spectacular as those!! I had to take DH back to his truck today-- a good excuse to shop on the way home;) Take a look at the aeschyanthus radicans "twister" I found at lowes-- I thought it was a hoya!

Nichole ... I have some of those U type pins, I think they are sold for orchids. I bought them at either Wal-Mart or Home Depot. They are metal but seem to last quite awhile before getting rusty. You could polish them with clear acrylic nail polish to help them hold up even longer.

Wow! HGran ... that plant is Awesome! I had a really nice A. 'Rasta' for a few years but that one is even nicer with all that twisty foliage! Really nice, would love to see the blooms on that one, but even without flowers it is such a cool plant, who needs blooms!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Great find, Gran!

Nichole, I buy hair pins at HEB to do the same thing with episcias (LOL)
You know the kind like your grandmother used to put her bun up on the back of her head.^_^

(Zone 1)

LOL Gail, I have been known to use a few "bobby" pins for plants too when I don't have the U pins handy ... and yes, I must confess, I still use them to pin my hair up at times too! I have really long hair and wear it in a pony tail all summer but the pony tail is real long too so I usually twist it around and pin it with bobby pins!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

My hope and goal is to get at least one good strep this year and I will be happy.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Love that curly lipstick Gran! When that blooms, it will be spectacular!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

I will have to get at least one Aeschyanthus and one Goldfish plant.I have a hook on each side of my kitchen window where I used to have them.Great light and humidity.I have never seen such a plant as Twister.I have been known to use bobbypins, hairpins and even wig pins or paperclips if I could get just the right bend on them.
