Take our survey!

I'm curious how that works Melody. Do the vendors submit a list of their plants to DG?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Yes, they do. And they have the option of how many plants they can list. Most do not list their whole inventory. It is advertising, but done in an unobtrusive way so that it does not detract from the PlantFiles if someone does not want to see ads.

oh I see, I never thought of it as advertising so for me it is very unobtrusive. I always thought of that feature as a fantastic service to me!

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

That is exactly what we wanted. A service to our members that they can get value from, and a way for vendors to get their product shown to customers that are actually interested in that specific plant. A win-win situation.

Works for me! I'll email my 3 favorite vendors today & let them know their advertising in Plantscout is appreciated.

Edited to say... just learned something new; Just because a company is in Garden Watchdog doesn't mean they utilize Plantscout! One of the companies I love isn't listed so that explains why they weren't listed as vendors for the plants I bought. My other two favorites are though.

If you really feel strongly about it, you can tell your favorite vendors how much you like PlantScout, and how you wish they participated.

Sometimes that nudge from a loyal customer works far better than a cold call from the sales guys.

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

Was this survey originally only for members who were not subscribers? I think I looked at it a few days ago, but didn't think it was open to subscribers. Maybe I just misunderstood.

Regardless, I figured if Dave and Terry were eligible, I must be, too, so I put in my 2c worth! ;o)

Hope it is helpful!
Angie

I do feel strongly about it :-) you can count on them hearing from me. It just makes it so much easier to purchase a plant or seed I want. My loyalty goes both ways.. first to DG and then to great vendors
I really am sounding like a commercial but this is all very sincere!

Clarkson, KY

There were about 3 which i chose not to answer, not having an appropriate response, and I got spit back out....:(

Quoting:

No, this survey is actually for subscribers-only. There is a separate survey we are running for non-subscribers.

Clarkson, KY

Dave- (and admin or whoever wishes) would love a none of the above option on a few more of those, though it may be late or moot now... Thanks, Kelly

It's too late this time around but if and when we ever have a new survey, I'll make sure we include a "None of the above" option!

Clarkson, KY

Thanks ever so...I'm one of those who can't quite bring themselves to approximate an answer...silly, I know...never want to be misleading...

I had to fib Cousin Nut :( Looking forward to next survey with the 'None of the Above' option too ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I filled it out (but don't even remember the free subscription). I am very excited to see advertising from the top 100 vendors. Now I won't have to google all the time for my favorite vendors.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Just curious. I know this is not the topic, and I understand that it was not the intent of the survey, but if we did decide to try turning [regular] adds on, would that be helpful in generating more money for the site? If so, I might consider doing so if It's not too obtrusive.

I do understand that this is totally separate from the new Top 100 Ads you are adding. I think the Top 100 Ads sound great. I'm a little excited about them as I really like doing business with the top 20 or so companies and look forward to learning more about the companies, with which I am still unfamiliar.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Hey Dave this is abit off opic too, but when i googled davws garden to get her this morning, noticed on th egoogle page on the side it said buy or shop Daves Garden. I thought cool, Dave has a seperate ad up for the market place, and just as I went to click it noticed that it said ebay.com underneath it. I didn't click, is Dg on ebay or that somebody else with a Daves Garden, and wonder how many other people think it the Dg market place too when it may not be.

We don't have anything to do with that.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I took the survey but I didn't know entering for the subscription was seperate. I don't know if I am entered or not. I hope I am. If not, how can I enter without taking the survey again? Don't want your results to be off.

Cajunin KY, do you remember putting in an email address? I think that is what enters you into the drawing.

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

I don't remember if I did or not.

CajuninKy, I checked and indeed, you entered your address and you are entered!

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Thankyou so much, Dave. I sure hope I win. Don't know what I'd do without DG. I spend lots of time here and learn so much about so many different subjects. Such nice folks here.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

starlight1153, many time with a Google search, eBay automatically has an ad on the side with whatever word you entered. If you had clicked on that link, it would just have taken you to eBay, there wasn't anything tied to the name.
By the way, how come you have to Google to get here? Don't you have Davesgarden bookmarked in the most prominent place on the list? The TOP? ^_^

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I, too, was surprised to see that many regular DG'ers use google to find the site. For the precious few special sites that I use frequently, I type the url in directly. I have typed www.davesgarden.com in so many times now that my fingers can do that w/o requiring any brain interaction. In fact, I often end up typing the DG url in automatically no matter what site I am actually trying to reach. : )

Ripley, MS

What???? You mean it is not your home page??? My homepage is Daves. I can't imagine going anywhere else first--I have to see what my friends are doing first, before I do anything else.
Sandra

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I google for it, too..probably once a day or so. (Actually I google for "garden" and select it from the list. I figure it helps bump us up the old rankings ;o)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I never thought about googling Dave's for ratings. Good idea Terry. I do use google to access PF rather than going through the DG tab because I can find a specific plant faster but that's probably because I'm a rotten speller.

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

I thought I was the only one that used Google to find things in PF! Seems every time I use the PF search, I get hundreds of responses. If I type the exact same thing in Google, but with "Plant Files" in front of it, I get the exact plant I am looking for. Why is that? I LOVE Plant Files, but just can't get anywhere with the search feature. That would be my #1 request for something to improve on DG!

Angie

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I use the same laptop for work and play, so it wouldn't be appropriate to have DG as my home page - since I really shouldn't be DGing at work, although I confess to doing a little. : )
I need to keep the time/access to DG at work to a bare minimum as I don't want to get DG added to the sites blocked by the corporate firewall. So, home = google. When I'm not at work, however, I just keep a browser window (or 2) open to DG all of the time.

I hadn't thought of searching to bump ratings. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to get into the habit of doing that occasionally - using garden terms.

I do use google sometimes for searching PF. For me it depends on what I'm looking for as to whether I use PF search or google search.

Just an FYI: The survey will be closed tonight around midnight (I'm not sure what timezone, though). If you want to get in, now's the time to do it!

(Zone 1)

I have DG as my home page on the desktop at home, and on my laptop. If I'm somewhere and don't have my laptop, and using another computer, I just type in www.davesgarden.com.

Now, I must admit I am really lazy, so when searching for information on a particular plant (which is a zillion times a day... well, it seems that way) I just Google: detailed information for _________ , and it immediately brings up the link for that plant in Plant Files, if the plant is in PF, which 99% of the time, it is! PF is one of my most favorite features here in the garden!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I use http://www.bloom.com/ as my homepage. I love seeing a new flower every morning when I turn the computer on!

(Zone 1)

I have Bloom.Com as a favorite on my DG home page for watching. I check out the new bloom every day ... love that feature, and I also love the random bloom and bird photo of the day feature!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

from the Dg site, I have problems findign a plant, btu if I google it will comeup on dg in google and take right there. so much eaiser for me.

I use google all the time, some times i come in through guides and information, sometimes forums.

Clarkson, KY

Did the survey. Fudged the answers a little to get them to fit. That none of the above or other+ box thing would probably gain you accuracy --or more of what you're looking for. (Not complaining in any way here -amending my earlier comment....) Thanks for everything!

GA, GA(Zone 7b)

Just curious, have the 1 year subscription winners been notified?
I can't handle the suspense! :)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Chuckle...not yet. But very soon, we promise!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Whew. I thought I was a big L loser AGAIN!

Yeah, sorry for the delay. I've actually been working the past couple days in Dallas out of the data center, doing server maintenance, etc. I'm going to get the drawing ready hopefully tomorrow, if not definitely Thursday!
