I can't dig my fingers into all the soil - some is still frozen and I'm sure we'll have more ugly weather but in the meantime I have completely cleaned four beds - hurray!
Daily garden inspections: Is it an obsession ?
I'm green with envy. We're supposed to see weather in the 50s tomorrow and warm the next few days, but I don't think it will get rid of the 3-4 feet of snow we have. But if it does, I'll talk to you all later.
We'll know where to find you, Polly.
I think my Hellebore will open up more in the next few days.
I had to google image the plant to see what it's supposed to look like.
Its snow and ice back there so I'll wait until it melts, almost took a header yesterday to take the picture , I trying to go for the RedChick medal.
We get 50's today with rain, a great melter.
Most of the snow is gone. I'd guess we have 1% left. On our morning ride today I was stunned to see it in spots, having forgotten all about it!
Lucky you.
I'm sure it will return. At least we have a clean start.
Yes, I'm out every day first thing with my camera in hand. Then I sit in the Gazebo have my breakfast of champions, Pepsi and Muffin. While watching and listening to the birds at the feeders. Such a peaceful start to the day, I must say I'm really enjoying my retirement.
The early morning hours are absolutely the best of the day. I love the flowers, the birds and the silence. The coffee pot is never far away and neither is the camera.
I love the early morning inspections. First I have my coffee and whatever I am eating. Then fill my cup and make the tour. I love the quiet of the morning when it is just me my coffee cup and my garden. This year i am inviting my camera along as I have read that the pics are better with dew on them. Can't wait.
I like early morning pics, as most of my garden is sunny and I think I get better pictures when the light isn't so bright and I don't have shadow lines in my pictures. Some of my MG don't stay around for afternoon pictures, too. This one is a real Morning Glory as it only shows it's glory in the morning.
Early morning, dew, dappled shade - heaven for photographers!
I agree. Early mornings are the best for inspections. But for me, because of the way the garden faces, it's the worst time to take photos !
My "morning" inspections are a terrible time for pictures because I never wake up before noon.
Zuzu - here we all are, talking about being alone in the garden during the early morning hours, just as your mother and grandmother were alone in the garden. There is that sense of calm and beauty before the busy part of the day comes along to disturb that peace.
I believe thats the time we are really ourselves.
The daily distractions cause us to become something other.
Just came in from looking at dirt.
Had a stroke of genius,I dont have to have the paths thru the long gardens I can shorten the paths and give myself extra space 2'x3'
Now for self controle. It will be full sun. I might need it for plants comming from DG'ers.
Isn't the fun of extra space both a delight and a challenge? I'm never upset to remove a plant that isn't performing as it should and then I'm filled with that childhood type of glee at what I can plant in that spot.
It's hard to know what to expect from the generous DG people because extra plants are always being found.
Beautiful! White would go well or solid blue/purple.
I just bought both sculptures I've been eying because the vessel I also wanted was over $1100.
I like that kind of reasoning. Men (many men, not all) just wouldn't get it.
Good for you, JoAnn.
I'm not alone in the garden in the morning. Russ is a very early riser, up usually around 4:30 to 5:00, and by the time I get out at 6:00 he has scoped out the garden, and has tons of things to 'drag' me to see. He also has my coffee ready and waiting. If I'm not up at 6:00 he comes in and sticks it under my nose.
He's a keeper. I'm affraid you got the last good man.
But as I keep saying, he's not so good in the house, a gem outside, though. I have a couple of loose tiles in the kitchen I need to really get after him to fix, and he does the vacuuming, but hasn't done it now in a couple of weeks. Well, actually he had a one week excuse, the belt broke on the vacuum. I suppose I could do it myself, but I'm not going to.
