Hi scicciarella.. when you click on something you want to look at.... there is a "translate" button and options at the top :-)
hope that helps
.... 100 yen is less than but near enough 1 US$ (at the moment) so just divide by 100 and you will be ok(ish) you could also try google currency convertor....

Do they ship seeds to any other Asian countries? or is it just within Japan.....because if they do ship to other asian countries, there's a possibility that I can get them
Eliz
the flowers are just amazing so beautifull and they stay open all day wow that is so cool
now do any of you guys that have purchased these have any to trade or sell
i haven't managed to purchase any... i think we are all still at the trying stage...
i've sent messages asking if they will post seeds to uk... and i'm waiting for the reply.
I actually went on ebay and they have some of them on there maybe that would be cheaper and easier
scicciarella on ebay is better to search on japanese morning glory , you have more choice . The seller jmglvr ( emma ) has a big choice and good prices.
In the "buy now" you have Onalee with seeds coming from Japan , a little bit expensive but pure cultivars seeds and more seeds too.( 12 or 24 )
Dany
Thanks Colin for the road !
But when I want to order , the pages are only in Japanese and they don't accept the double translating .
Joseph where is the seller Column
Have see the yellow Nil seeds for sell ?
Hi Dany, Yahoo! Japan auction site is truly alive with very inexpensive unopened packs of JMGs. The seller is identified under the title for each listing, as can be seen in the photo below. For example, coconutmayu is the seller in the first listing (for a nice purpurea). Is that what you're looking for?
Joseph
Yes ipomoea purpurea is just what I'm looking for lol
I try to go in and I try to buy but they say that my balance is not good , I try to make a deposit , it don't work .I try to refund it don't work.
I'm not sure that they accept item like seeds for international purchase.
Did you try to buy something ?
Perhaps it's you sunday ******
That is like walking into a candy shop and you cannot buy. :)
Since I have so many jmgs from DG here, I think I will grow these out before I purchase anymore!
went to my local rona today and found seeds for the chocolatet pale milk chocolate with a white edge nice and flying saucer redish purple with white stripes and I so got the moonflower I grow those every year they smell so nice
will check out ebay again
I have a neighbor who is from Japan, may be I can enlist his help, but I do not know my MG's. When you're talking nil and stuff, you're going way over my head!
But WOW! Those MG's from the first photos are incredible! Who wouldn't want one of those!
So help me out here, those MG's on the yahoo Japan site, can we not find them from a US seller? Does onalee sells the seeds?
Hello again Lilimerci =)
Scientific name for Japanese morning glories are Ipomoea nil. Since we're in the mg forum we like to shorten it hehehe. When we write "purpurea" we mean our common morning glory, Ipomoea purpurea. (Genus = Ipomoea, Species = nil or purpurea)
US sellers do not have all of them or they're not selling them. And you can also ask onalee to find these seeds for 5 USD. Some of us are looking for specific ones like the "Black Knight" which are not available in commercial stores. Black Knight is the darkest form of Japanese morning glory that we know of =D. There are also mutant ones that are not sold in North America or ebay...plus....the ones (commercial seed packets) sold at yahoo japan are 1/6th the price of the commercial seed packets sold in North America.
btw scicciarella, some Rona locations are closing, maybe they have the seeds on sale there? are you also talking about Mckenzie seed brand? heheh I saw them at walmart and browsed at their selection like a bee. hahaha. Still have to check homedepot =D
Eliz
Thanks for explaining Eliz.
Ipomoea nhil and ipomoea purpurea, are separate and distinct species. Both are native to Japan and both have been in cultivation there for several centuries. Both have varieties that have Japanese names, thus confusion. When the Japanese name is given and not the specie, (which is incorrect botanical syntax), the viewer doesn't know which specie it is derived from. Now we look at the sepals. This is why so many times pictures of the back of the flower are requested. If the sepals remind you of a sepals on a strawberry it is likely a purpurea. If the sepals are more needle like then it is likely a nhil.
The correct syntax always starts with the latin name, this name is universal all over the planet. Japanese or any other language is not. When the latin name is used correctly, it removes all doubt. When the latin name is not used, it just muddies the water and makes the loss of some species more certain, (in my long range opinion).
The taxonomy of the entire Convolvulacea Family, is very difficult. Cataloging all the genera and species on the planet, is such a daunting task, that all the attempts at doing it were left unfinished at the death of the author. If there is an exception to this, I would certainly would like to know about. To make things worse, the largest unfinished efforts, are not in English.
The best hope anyone has, to get a scientific description of native specie, would be to get your hands on a "Botany" of your State, or Country.
I know they exist, because when I was an undergraduate at Oregon State University, I drooled over the library of the Botany Dept. In the library, the walls were lined, floor to ceiling with Published botanies of everywhere. By state and by country. Years later I purchased a copy of Gray's Botany of North America.
In it are maybe 7 pages of fine print, of the known species when it was originally printed. This is a great reference, and nearly every library has one.
Hope this clears some things up a little. Frank
In Yahoo Japan Center has not a lot o things for sale , how to know if items are from second hands ?
For the seeds they say : our system does not support this kind of auction
But there is people who are bidding !
Joseph have try to bid for seeds ? I don't understand how it work
Dany
You have to register there or their yahoo system wont serve you. Register, then you can log in and browse. I find it a little scary, wondering if I inadvertantly pushed the buy button. lol Frank
The Japanese have worked with both Ipomoea nil and Ipomoea purpurea...there is no species which is definitively a 'Japanese MG'...
I would suggest that it would be more accurate to refer to the 'Japanese ' style of morning glories...which may include large flowered type and / or the range of training techniques and the manner of presentation...
Black Knight is a newer marketing name for Kniola's...
Frank - Thanks for your contributions although I would like to clarify for the record that both Ipomoea nil and Ipomoea purpurea originated and are native to the New World, not Japan...
Generally speaking Botanical latin is not strict latin and many modern sites prefer to reference the Botanical name (to refer to 'botanical latin' as it is used ) in place of the 'latin' name...mentioning this just as an advisory note that the Botanical name is the botanical latin name...
The usage of the botanical names is supposed to be consistent across the globe based upon the resolutions and agreements of International Botanical Congress and related International Scientific Committees which are responsible for implementing consistent usage of international scientific terminology, but many countries stubbornly cling to older synonyms... this usage of older synonyms adds to confusion encountered by neophytes...
TTY,...
Ron
why dont you just go on ebay you may find some of what you are looking for
