"Oh Mr. Groundhog....we need to talk! Winter has been too long already... Some of us are a few sandwiches short of a full picnic basket and eating our way to an empty one. Now listen carefully
.......NO SHADOW!!!!!!!! Pretty please???
Coffee break 3 "Oh Mr. Groundhog....we need to talk!"
I'm glad I clicked on the thumbnail - I was wondering what happened to his head, especially with the reference to the picnic basket and eating..,.
What is typical for February out your way - much the same as January?
I been through Conn and went to NJ I think that was where we went to the winery. Hick!!!! Could not find Maryland. LOL
I'm guessing that muskrat dinners aren't dinners prepared for muskrats?
Don't let Jan's neighbors see the groundhog, they might eat'em!
Too funny, pixie. I thought I was the only one who had cabin fever. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas was a hard time for me. Mom's RN was concerned about me. I just need to get out more with friends. Did it a few times and know that that is the answer. DG has been my lifeline for the few months I've been here and I am very appreciative for all of you. I'm looking forward to meeting some Dgers at an Open House at Fariweather Gardens Nursery in April. I'll be putting in my order after the 4th so it goes on the next billing cycle. Taxes are due 2/1. Sorry, I'm rambling. It's time for bed, but, silly me, I had some coffee after dinner with some hot chocolate.
Katye, groundhogs have an earthy taste...he's safe! lol
Yes, Jan. & Feb. are the same....long and cold!
How very troubling that I can envision them with aprons & chef hats, wielding sharp knives.
Winter needs to end ASAP...
Oh no Jen, cabin fever starts as soon as the snow hits the ground!!!
Nope, not dinner for muskrats. They are the main course. I've seen them cooked up. Kinda like a rat. ICK!!!
Look out Punxatawney Phil, you might not see your shadow. And it won't be from no sun. LOL
Winter needs to end because I just got more ECHINACEA’S in a co-op! Duplicates of some i've already ordered. But the price was right and 2 is better than one is case one dies. Right?????
Oh, Wren - not finding Maryland reminds me of the stories I have of people asking me for directions when I was a toll-collector on the Del. Memorial Bridge. Some were hopelessly lost. EX: looking for Niagara Falls after they left from NYC and were supposed to be going northwest, or looking for Boston after leaving NYC. BTW I'm 120 miles SOUTH of NYC. There were some doozies.
Too funny again, pixie. I agree, 2 are better than 1.
Yes, 2 is wonderful. But 5 is wonderfuller.
Right when i was going to post my order, she posted "STOP".
So 2 is better than none!
AWWW, Katye. You are right - 2 is better than none.
You just have to hit the co-ops right, I guess. I have started to check that forum more often. The other echie one, I just happened upon at the opportune minute.
The lily/glad co-op is Monday & I'm not losing ground on that one. I have my list typed & ready to post.
And i swore i wouldn't be buying anything until I've finished my rocks...
0% willpower here...
I didn't even look, cuz I knew what would happen. I'm saving for the open House at Fairweather Gardens on 4/4. It is located only about 20 miles from me. Some DGers will be meeting up there then doing lunch. I'm soooo looking forward to that.
I miss gardening!!
Any room for houseplants?
I made a new recipe the other day with spinach and spaghetti in a ricotta cream sauce and while I was eating it I noticed something red in it???? weird...I picked it out and it was half of a ladybug!!!!!!!!!!!!! EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW where's the other half????The rest of it went in the garbage!
Anyone remember where that link is that Thom posted of that guy laughing???
Add one half lady bug and salt and pepper to taste.
That must have been nasty.
I disagree with whomever said both Jan. and Feb. are long and cold. January is long and cold indeed, but February is almost a whole week shorter. Still cold. Blahs.
Ok which one of you left the freezer door open again. I know that y'all like to share but enough already. And here I was going to send invitations to all to come down to "SUNNY WARM" Florida.
coffee isn't good anymore.... thanks Jen
I think Feb. is the longest month. I don't care what the calendar says.
Thank you Dave.....me either!!
I agree. That crummy Feb. goes on forever and ever it seems like to me. I know it is the shortest month but it does never seem yo end. At least we turn the clocks early again so it will seem like spring even if the temps don't quite match the daylight. March 8th is the start of DST.
On another topic. I know people get all thrilled with the ads on the super bowl, but have you seen some of the previews? Is it me, am I too old or something not to appreciate the lack of imagination required to have all manner of slapstick and sex sells themes in these things? IMHO it is not even funny shtick. The Dorito commercial is not what I would want any kids under a certain age to watch. I do not buy products, even if I like them when they annoy me or assume I am an idiot with their ads. Every one I have seen a preview of so far is either really stupid, sexist or just plain boring. They are spending a lot of money to achieve the opposite of the desired effect on this consumer.
I agree. I have not decided if they think people are stupid or they are. But then I am of the old school. But then I do not think the so called sit-coms are funny.
I haven't seen the promos, but I'm not surprised. Wren, both may be true (they think we are stupid and we are) I would like to see that 3D ad though.
Ngam, They secretely make each of Feb.'s 28 days 48 hours long.
Speaking of which, can we move leap year to June so it will be an extra warm day? Who's with me on this?
Our family must be the only one in North America who has never seen a Super Bowl game. I have students who tell me they only watch to see the ads! Hard to believe in these tough economic times, corporations would fork out $3 million for a 30 second ad.
Meanwhile - I think Feb is great 'cause there are soooo many seeds I can start (well, normally . . . this year I have to show restraint!)
Currently, I have a whole bunch of rose seeds I am trying to germinate - goodness only knows what I will do if I am successful. I got these from trades with other DG members. And I have little baby lilies growing in the basement! And baby spirea, and baby pigmy crimson bayberry (yes- the seeds worked! )
Michaela, I watched the SB only ONCE and we WON! That was the year with whoever's shirt fell off etc., scandle city. First and last.
Well, my understanding is that Jackson's blouse didn't exactly "fall off" - but the male entertainer reached over and tore it open. Apparently all staged, since she was conveniently wearing a jeweled pasty. Don't know this for a fact, but doubtless many DG viewers can verify the correctness of this statement.
My issue is - why was Jackson later shunned at the Grammy Awards that year, while her male counterpart - the one who actually opened the blouse was welcomed?
What does it say about our culture that we still accept the man's right to apparently disrobe a woman publicly - and it's her fault?
Of course - I didn't actually see it - so I could be totally mistaken.
When is the SB this year? DH doesn't know because he has to work, whatever day it is.
Oh goody the seeds worked for you. I am so happy to hear it.
You have it right about that whole stupid "wardrobe malfunction " stunt. More of the same attitude this year I'm afraid in the ads. Not a great lesson to be teaching male or female teens either. That is the age group I assume they are trying to reach with that crud. Worse thing is a female newscaster was commenting on the ads, saying how great they were. You gotta be kidding me. Of course it was on the network that is racking in the money from the ads. There is another aspect of this commercial (Dorito) that also bothered me besides the sexist insulting crap, they turn a policeman into a monkey, way to respect law and order guys. Might be a good lesson for the kids to be told how these commercials are getting their attention, what is wrong with it, and why their money is better spent elsewhere. A future better consumer, not what they had in mind for their big bucks.

Dave I meant to add that I vote with you for the extra day to be in a warm month. What were they thinking? May or June would work for me. :)
Superbowl is tomorrow night Carrie.
I haven't seen the ad previews but past few years have been going downhill, the games too have been lame lame lame!
Since all is ice & snow here, will Feb. be any different? The flowers on our 'bulb bowl' (a christmas gift) are going past. It was an attempt at spring.
Dave - thank you for providing clarity to the length of February. I knew something was terribly wrong, but had not realized it was all those extra hours per day, which also accounts for the sizable increase in my coffee consumption.
I think it's a grand idea to redistribute days from Feb to the other months, particularly those which begin A, M, Ju, & S. That's 7, if I counted correctly, which would shorten it by one week. Next, how to adjust the temps to achieve a proper balance for all of our gardening needs. Wish it were that simple...
Never watched the SB, but I haven't watched TV the past 10 years. I have heard many folks talk about watching the SB for the sole purpose of seeing the ads, but I wondered if those who do so actually make purchases based on the grade they've given an ad.
My son told me that Miller will be airing multiple 1 second ads; not sure I understand the point, except that brevity would be a relief. This got me thinking about WHO the ads are really for - the general public, or, those in the advertising industry.
I heard that Planet Animals is running a Puppy Bowl tomorrow with a kitten halftime show - think I might tune into that one.
