Odd behavior for the osprey---maybe he thought the pelican was too close to his fish!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

John - the photo was taken in South Bay on the south end of the lake. When we were in your area in December, we saw quite a number of waterfowl. It's a nice place!

You are most welcome, JoAnn....glad you are enjoying some color from down south! LOL

Robin - I agree! I still have no idea why she was behaving that way. If it had been the type of bird that robs nests, I would have understood it. Always a mystery to solve around here with so much wildlife.

I read back to the original bird pic---I was giving you a descrip of the Black crowned night heron---the yellow crowned is not as creepy looking, but it is still a small heron---saw them nesting right in a city park in Savannah--people didn't seem to bother them at all!

I saw a birdbath made from a rhubarb leaf in a magazine article, Mona--it was very impressive! Nice photos, John--looked like my yard yesterday---then it melted---then it snowed again!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

yup that is definitavely zone 5 looks just like my place lol snow and more snow and more snow and and and when will be gone is the question

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Very pretty snow shots. If it was December maybe they would be really appreciated. I would gladly send my snow to anyone who likes it. At this point however, more white cold stuff, no matter how pretty, is not what I want. I want warm. I want green. I want spring!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

I will have to my sisters house they have giant rhubarb some of the leaves are two and half feet wide just about the right size it looked pretty easy to make pile of wet sand cover with think plastic then the leaf wiggle to make sure sand in in right positon with the leaf then concrete about two inches of it then thin metal screen with some rebar if its really big more concrete then cover with plastic to keep moist so concrete will be at its hardest. I can handle that and I so want one it will work or I will keep trying till I get it right hahahhaha many leaves and more concrete please.

I agree enough with this cold white stuff ready for anything else at this point but sun and blue skies would be nice for my seedlings

I think we all have Gardenitice You know that dreaded disease that all gardeners get this time of year. Totally confused and in an array waiting for spring.

Not sure if I am stating the obvious here that y'all have explored, but ......

There are a lot of great threads in the Hypertufa Forum on making Rhubarb (etc.) Leaf BirdBaths, and all kinds of neat stuff. Ideas, step-by-step instructions and pictures. I like the mini ponds made inside a globe.

Would love a mini-pond! Would even love to see a rhubarb leaf at this point!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi all. I have some sad news to share with you all. We lost our sweet little dog, Molly, yesterday. We are both in such grief that I can't even get the words out very well yet. She was so much a part of us for so many years, and the house is just so empty without her. The last 10 days have been pretty tough, and although they thought she had pancreatitis, an ultrasound yesterday revealed extensive liver cancer. As gardeners you will appreciate this. When we got up this morning and sat down in our sun room, all of the sunflowers surrounding us in all directions had suddenly bloomed to cheer us. You gotta love that. If you weren't a gardener, you probably wouldn't even have noticed Nature's tribute to our dear, sweet little girl.

Oh no. I am so sorry, Louise. Sincere condolences. Nothing can help the hurt much but please remember all the good times you had with her and what she brought to you. You guys gave her everything she needed and more - especially love.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Very sorry to hear that .... I know with you she had a pampered life full of devotion.
