Hi all, this is the thread for all our cook book business.
Here's the "rules" and instructions. All in one place. I"d like to limit to 15
I will furnish everything needed to make the books but you will buy your own 3 ring binder when I send the "pages" to you. I am going to figure on $7 per person. I am figuring on the acid free paper and cardstock, page protectors, printer ink, glue, embellishments, etc. I want to make it special so it will be an heirloom.
MONEY FOR BOOKS WILL NEED TO BE TO ME BY MARCH 10TH. I WANT TO GO AHEAD AND GET THE MATERIALS AND START WORKING ON THEM AS I GET THE RECIPES, ETC. INSTEAD OF WAITING TILL THE LAST MINUTE.
Basically, We will gather all our good recipes together, send to me, I'll make the pages, organize everything and send them out.
Here's how it will work.
1. Get your recipes together. We will have these catagories. a. SOUP AND SALADS
b MAIN DISHES
c. SIDE DISHES
d CAKES, COOKIES, CANDY
E. PIES AND DESSERTS
e. MISC. (This would be for Jim's frog legs, etc. lol)
f. BREADS As we go along, if we need another category, we'll add it.
G. CANNING AND PRESERVING (includes hot sauces too)
h. QUICK AND EASY Recipes for days we've just gardened too much. Things we can fix in a few minutes. (Youknow, stuff we can open cans and throw together fast)
Recipes need to be to me and ready to go by March 15
If you have them it would be good to have at least one of each thing, but if you don't have that, just send what you have. Please make these recipes you really like. No space fillers. Send as many as you like. I will go through them and if we have too many "chocolate cakes", (for example, I'll use what I can. Also, if there are duplicates I will use the recipe and put both sender's names on it. I'll do the same if there is something that is almost the same with just one small difference. I will talk about the diff and put both names. No need in doing a whole new recipe if the only diff is the amount of eggs.
2. How to send.: PLEASE DMAIL THE RECIPES TO ME IN A "RECIPE" FORMAT. NAME, INGREDIENTS, INSTRUCTIONS, ETC .
iF YOU SEND A PICTURE, ETC, PLEASE SEND THAT BY EMAIL: GOLENAGO@HOTMAIL.COM
I will shrink, etc, or enlarge when I get them to make them fit where I need them to be.
3. It would be nice if you can type up a few little "stories" about the recipes, where you got them, stuff like that. Won't have room for long stories about each one, but just little tidbits. Pictures of the cooked product will be good too. However, those you will have to snail mail to me and one for each book. If you hae a photo processing program, you can make the pictures 2 X 3's, etc. and get them on a couple pages of "picture" paper.
4. Whjen I get the recipes, I will print out as many as we need. Before I do that, I will e mail to Robin(Arejay) and she will proof them one more time
I know you will proof them , but we'll do this just to be extra safe. If there is any thing questionable, (You know, does c. mean cup or can, stuff like that) she'll get with you and make sure)
5. Since "frogs" seem to have become our little mascot (cute frogs, not ugly horney toads, lol) if you find any cute little frog graphics that would look cute at the bottom of a page, etc, please send those to me too. Jim found some cooking ones and we'll choose one of those for the covers. But other cooking guys might be cute. Won't use too many, but a few here and there. Also any other cooking graphics, etc. you think would be good will be welcome as well. May not use all of them, but would like to have some to choose from. Stickers would be good too , if you want to send those, you'll need to send several. Those you would have to mail.
I found some cute stuff by googling "cooking stickers" and stuff like that.
Anyway, if you have embellishments you would like to send, please let me know. If I cn download and print out I will, if not you can send them or have them sent directly to me. I'm going to try and find some to buy, but don't want to go over our budget.
TRISHA is working on designing the front cover. If you buy a notebook you can slip something in the front, you can use it there.
I know I have probably just confused you more or left out info, so please ask and I'll add it to the instructions, etc. PLEASE CHECK THE SECOND POST, cause I'll use it to put new info, participants, etc.
PS. Jim is our go to guy for graphics. He got the picture I'm using here and he said it was screaming "Lorraine" when he saw it. Now, lets figure out what that means. lol

MIXED SEED NUTS COOK BOOK CHAT
This post will have the names of participants and if I need to add to instructions, I'll do so here.
UNLESS YOU HAVE TOLD ME YOU WANT ONE AND I'VE LEFT YOUR NAME OFF, I'D LIKE TO STOP THE PARTICIPANTS HERE. IF YOU WOULD LIKE ONE AND IT'S TOO LATE, LET ME KNOW YOUR NAME AND IF SOMEONE ON THE LIST CANCELS, I'LL GIVE YOU THEIR SPOT.
PLEASE GET MONEY TO ME AS SOON AS YOU CAN IF YOUR NAME IS HERE SO THAT I KNOW FOR SURE YOU WANT ONE. Until I get the money for the book, I can't know for sure you really want it.) Thanks, I know it's just one more thing to worry about. But if we get that part taken care of I'll know better how to proceed, how much stuff to buy, etc.

As I said, I did this by memory, so if you want a book and I haven't gotten your name here yet, let me know
Here's a new idea already. Let's do a small section about stuff we've ruined, or screwed up the recipe, or burned, etc. Just a few llittle funny stories.
Here's kind of a format to use when typing the recipe. You'd do that anyway, but thought I'd put it here anyway.
Taco Soup
Ingredients Ingredients (If lots of ingredients, would be good
to make 2 rows instead of one long one
Instructions:
What size pan, and temp and stuff. If it is supposed to have a certaiin texture, etc.
If it is a short recipe and you have a little story etc. put it here. If it's long , just do the story seperately and I'll find a spot for it.
Also, why don't we all find a recipe we have that calls for stuff we put together in a few minutes. FGor those days we garden too long! Like I have a taco soup recipe that is wonderful, but just calls for opening cans, except for the meat.

Hmmm...did I inspire the "stuff we've ruined" section? ;-) LOL
Looks like a drunk frog making eyeball soup LOL. Thats a great one Jim. Makes you think of Lorraine doesn't it?? ROFLOL
Edited to say Lorraine I still love ya LOL

Lorraine you got dmail !!!!!
I don't know if Laura is in on this one or not but I will ask her...I'm in, but I'm not there?
Trisha
Lorraine!!! That picture that is how I imagine you !!Hehehe..Hugs Lorraine.
I have to ask!! Does anyone here ever imagine that there are people from all over the world reading the dumb stuff we write and about the silly things we do????
They must be sure we are really nuts!!!
IF THEY ARE YOU WILL GET THEM HOOKED
. LIKE YOU HAVE ME!!!!!
~Terry
This sounds fun! I'm at work and busy so I'll read this later on this evening in detail. I've screwed up enough recipes to fill 3 3-ring binders.
We are a love able bunch most of the time. You wanna talk about screwed up dishes? The first turkey I ever cooked. Someone said can I have the gizzard. This was at the table...hmm I said what gizzard? There was no gizzard in this turkey. Well I just thought they must have changed things since my mothers always had gizzards. No not changed Wrong answer...it was still where they packed it. Yup you all guessed it... in the neck cavity in the bag with all the other parts.
Run guys
Lorrainne, do you want my receipe for "Elephant Stew"?
Audrey That will be interesting LOL, now all we need is where do we get an elephant? LOL
LOL!!
Well this isn't something I cooked but made just the same. I worked at a drive-inn resturant and some one ordered a banana split and I poceeded to make it and took it to the customer and after he ate it he ask me where the banana was ? Talk about being embarrassed.
lol .. did you say you must have eaten it sir!!
No I never thought about it but should have LOL
How about the girl I hired dto make cappucino's and she kept sending them out without the espresso in them. People were wondering why they tasted funny.
Ya'll are all just tooooooo funny. Guess i'll have to dress up in a frog suit and send you a picture. Hmmmm, would look like that huh?
Trish, I'm sorry, I've been calling you Laura. I know you should be there, you are making our cover. Gotta have your name there. Anyway, sorry. But don't worry, I can never get my kids names right either, I go through all 5 fore I get the right one.
Well, we know there are crazy people in France, so surely there are nutty ones ever where else too.!! JUst gotta dig em out.
Robin, you know that guy ate that banana. !!! lol Phyl, please do send the elephant stew, just make sure you send enough elephant for us to make it. I'll furnish the rotel, as i'm sure it will call for that.
What I'm seeing is that our book will be filled with at least half of it being sad mistakes us pitiful people make.
Has anyone ever set a potato on fire in the microwave? I assure you it can be done ;-).
I have never set a potato on fire in the micro but there have been other things!
What I want to know is does the elephant stew call for the banana that Flower did not give to that man?
YAH the elephant had it up his nose . Ready to torpedo some one HAA
I'll put this in the second post,I've put a special email account to send the recipes, and anything else to do with the cookbook.
Here it is: golenago@gmail.com
dI can see you Sunny, when you saw the burning potato.!! Sounds like something I would do. I specially love it when I forget to take the foil off something before it goes into the microwave.
Please add me to the list of people wanting the cookbook! :)
My first time making fried chicken.. I was so proud.. till hubby pointed out that it's supposed to be crispy on the outside, not soft. LOL
Chris
lol
Oh goodie. Another thread to watch. Just what I needed.
hahahaha big grin - I said that outloud in the voice my daughter uses when she's being sarcastic. LOL . As if I wasn't already crazy enough when I joined DG. ;)
I left the 'innards' inside my first turkey too only it didn't make it to the table like that. Someone started talking about all that stuff I don't eat, gizzards and livers, etc., for the gravy and I said 'it didn't come with it', so I had time to pull the turkey out of the oven and remove all the evidence. But my mom got a big kick out of that.
i think funny stories would be cute. if there's enough room and IF it doesn't become too much for Lorraine and the rest helping her to tackle.
That frog is TOO cute, Lorraine. here's a sweet one that we can use when we do a Poppy trade, LOL.
I love that!!! Im gonna sit down this evening and look for some graphics and stuff. Cooking, even flowers, since we are gardeners.
Ya know, we might even put a few little garden notes in there too.
You know, like "Gardeners never die, they just go to seed" lol
I put another "helpful" little hint. Haha, in the second post
Hi. Another idea. Is there anyone whowould like to take on getting a page of "helpful hints", you know like how many tablespoons make a cup, stuff like that?
You could glean ideas from others and just put them to gether and I could add that page to each cookbook. Maybe some substitutions, like stuff to use if you run out of something, etc.
Let me know if you'd like to take it on.
Where are hyou guys. Get on over here.
Looks like everyone took an early night :)
I could do that helpful hints for you.. I've got a cookbook that has all kinds of things like that in it. Just let me know how you want it set up on the page.
On the recipes, do you want all of them on one word document or separate pages?
Chris
too funny...my aunt and I were talking about 'hints' this morning.
seems like one time I saw gardener's sayings on DG.
yesterday on AOL, they had 25 how to save money hints and I thought a few were worth doing. I'll start looking for those too. Probably if/when we send stuff like that, we should should shout that out in the subject line.
Lorraine, are you putting our DG names on the recipe? I like that idea. maybe our name and state. (country only if its foreign, :D)
and....Lorraine.....i found myself standing in the scrapbook section of a store yesterday and saw frog stickers, positive sayings, etc., and I wondered if we need to be on the look out for stuff like that or if you were even planning on using them. jlmk.
PS. thanks for calling me Phyl......i HAATE Phyllis. must be the way the ex said it. Feel-US
YES, WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE LITTLE SAYAINGS AND THINGS in the scrapbook section or wherever. If you find some cheap enough you want to get them, please grab them and send to me. I would love to use them. I have some things and plan to order a few, but probably won't have a lot of the $7 left for that stuff.
I think the 25 ways to save money would be great!!!
ANything like that you can find would be wonderful addition.
This is gonna be the greatest cookbook, life book, fun book we ever saw!! Yippee. With all of us collaborating, it will be great. So send those!
Glen thank you for helping with the hints.
Just look in your cookbook and see how it is formatted.
I'll d mail you with some other ideas so I don't use up so much space here.
Anyone else with ideas of things you think we should use, just get them to me. After I get everything, I'll see how much room we'll need, etc, and we can figure out how to get it all in our books.!!
I posted this above, but here it is again in case you "skipped" to new. (That's what I do, so I know you might miss something, lol)
Money for the books will need to be to me by March 10, so I can go ahead and get all the paper, etc. I want to start working on them as we go along and as I get recipes, etc. It will just be really hard to wait till I get everything and then trying to do it all at once. Make it lots easier and quicker for me. It will also let me know for sure who is seriously wanting a book and I'll know how many for sure I need to make.
Is that ok with all of you?
To make sure i did't miss it How much is it. I Think you need a clone
~Tubby
Hey Gals I know this might sound forward and all but I think some of us need to send our money ahead of time to Help Lorraine buy the paper and stuff she will need to do the book for us. That is asking alot of her to take on buying everything she needs to do them with. What do you all think? If you want to do this it would very much be appreciated and the Price I think she set was around $7.00 per person.
I agree flower Ill send mine this week.
I think we can paypal Lorraine . Are you here? LorraineR?
Yeah I am just going to send her a check. I hope the rest will send money ahead. I just feel we should help her along.
