Stephanie, Thanks for the milk jugs!!! We just got a dairy cow and I was worried where I would get my milk jug fix.lol Let me know what I can bring you!

Wildcat, May I have the Pink Rugosa, it sounds like it has reverted back to it's mother plant 'Sarah Van Fleet', anyway I would love to have it. I'll bring you some different salvias to get you started on collecting them.lol

Aardvark, what kind of catmint are you looking for? I have a few ornamental types, but not the kind that gets cats high. Let me know if you want some ornamentals.

Trenton(close to), TX(Zone 8a)

coca I am sure it has reverted to Sarah. Occasionaly the mother bush Mary will have a single pink flower in the middle of all the white. This bush is from root sprouts I dug fall 2007. More than ready to plant. My hummers will love the salvia and you forever. lol.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Lynnea-How many do you want? I have 2-33 gal bags full now, but will be using some. Will have more by the time the RU rolls around. They're milk jugs, distilled water jugs, and 1 gal. vinegar jugs. Some have lids, most don't.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7b)

Cocoa, I want some catmint for the butterfly garden I'm working on. Larval foodsource for somebody, but I can't remember who right now. (?) I don't know if they are picky about the variety. But if they don't want to eat it, it can just be a nice uneaten plant in the garden or I can produce some offspring from it and use them in a hillside rock garden. Either way, yes, I would LOVE some catmint if you can spare it. I'll go ahead and break the bad news to my cat, Sapphire. She'll enjoy the garden anyway. :) Stacey

Wildcat, thanks! I don't grow any red salvia, so you may want to still look for some of those. Tho my hummers don't seem to care what color they are, they love them!

Stephanie, I'll take what ever you don't feel like storing over the summer. I took a peek today and the seedlings are coming along nicely. I didn't cover during the last freezes and they lived, that's what I call easy (or lazy) gardening :0)

Stacy, I'll bring some 'walker low' and 'six hill's giant'. I planted the pink 'sweet dreams' last fall and there's no sign of life yet. If it's still alive I'll bring some. Those are all sterile, but easy from cuttings. Sapphire should know, just say no anyway.lol

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

OH, I just remembered my winter sowing in the milk jugs! I didn't get them done until late but surely they will be popping up by now. Got to check them out.

LOL, did you find something good?

Southlake, TX(Zone 8a)

Sylvia - I will be hapy to give you some salvia gar and some blue sky asters.

Lizzy

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

The only thing popping up so far is French Hollyhocks! :-(

Trenton(close to), TX(Zone 8a)

I would like some a/some butterfly bush/buddleias. I have a Nanho Blue I planted last summer and would like other colors. I do have 1 Nanho Blue from a fall cutting I can trade for a buddleia.
Larry

Southlake, TX(Zone 8a)

1_Lucky_Texan, I have turk's cap in the satndard red - real hummingbird attractor.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7b)

Josephine, just found out that what I have is most likely A. currisavica NOT speciosa. Apparently when I ordered they sent me the currisavica instead. So sorry - I want the speciosa too. BUT I am reordering seed and will make sure that it is speciosa this time around. I will bring some seed to share with you to the RU. Will probably need to be cold treated prior to planting though so drats I won't have any larger plants by Summer. :(

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Well, i am sorry too, I won't need the curassavica, but if you have the seeds of speciosa, I will take a few, Thank you very much.
Josephine.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7b)

Wildcat, I have a 'Black Knight' BB, It has leaves on it now but no new shoots to cut. But I'll bet by April I will have some new shoots to take a couple of cuttings from. If you want I can try to get you a couple of cuttings from this plant. Depending on when they shoot, I can bring either a rooted/rooting one or just a fresh cut. Let me know.

Trenton(close to), TX(Zone 8a)

aardvark I would love a "Black Knight". Here is my "Nanho Blue" cutting. It is growing very fast. Do you think I should prune the long shoot back to make the plant bushier? I have one other plant I started last summer. One out of 12 I tried took but I did learn how not to root them.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7b)

Wildcat, he looks really healthy and happy! I like the color of the Nanho Blue. I am not an expert on BBs but if I were you I would probably go ahead and cut him back to ~6 inches at this point (just prior to Spring growth) so that he can start branching out a bit and to even his symetry a bit. They grow fast in Spring-Summer so he will fill back in. I'll do some research on growing these from cuttings so that I can get you a viable plant. Any tips, shoot me a dmail.

Oooo Datura, may I please have the blessed thistle seeds! I need those and can't believe you have them, awesome! :0) I have Zephirine Drouhin, but none rooted. I'll keep watch and if no else has one for you, I'll try and root it. It may not be ready until the fall RU tho.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7b)

Stephanietx, if you don't get some batface cuphea plants, let me know and I will bring you some seed that I got as an 'extra' on a trade. Stacey

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

cocoa lulu I will trade you the thistle for the bourbon rose. Have you tried the Forsythe Method of propagation? Its the only method I use for cuttings now since I have great success with roses and everything else. If you can't get them to root for you, I will do it here.

Thanks
Peg

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks for that link, Peg. Sounds much more refined than what I was doing. I'm hopeful to get a much higher rate of success!

I've never been to a Spring RU. It sounds like spring RUs are more about seeds and seedlings, with fall RUs being more about cuttings? Or are there any plants that are going to take cuttings of this time of the year?

Dennis

Arlington, TX

North CENTRAL TX RU **April 5th ** in ARLINGTON (TRADES #1)

Is this a gardening "show"? If so, can one purchase plants, or is it trade only? Where will it be located?

Thanks for the info............

Arlington, TX

OOPS -

reading further, I see the announcement. As I am in the area of Interlochen, this is quite close. YAY.

But again, is it SWAP only?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, babesy it is a swap only. It is up to the gardener as to what they trade for. It is very informal and just plain fun to get together and swap one person's extras for anothers. Also if you don't have plants to offer this RU, come anyway. A lot of us that have dug extras sure don't want to take them back home. If they aren't traded we end up giving them away at the end of the day. Use the link at the top of the page to go to the trade thread and you can see what is being offered for trade.
Hope to see you there.

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7b)

OK I remember someone saying that they had flame acanthus, but I don't see it anymore. I would love to have one for my hummer/butterfly garden. Does someone have this and, if so, would they save a little one for me? Pleeeeeeeeease. :)

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

1Luckytexan, how about a turk's cap for a firespike?

Charlene

Southlake, TX(Zone 8a)

Aardvark - it isn't flame acanthus sorry for my misnaming. It is hummingbird bush that I have - some do call it that, but it isn't the real name.

L

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Dennis, the roundup this time of the year may seem more seeds and less plants probably because more plants are dug up for the fall R/u. Some of us have greenhouses or start plants and grow them indoors so we are able to furnish plants. I do alot of cuttings right now using that Forsythe Method you will be surprised how fast they root using it. I cut a bunch of material today to take to a propagation class I am teaching on Thurs. with some other Master Gardeners. If you need some more links on other prop. methods let me know and I will send the links to you.,
Hope this helps.
Peg

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

That would be great! I've really just been dipping cuttings into rooting hormone sticking them into potting soil. I've had mixed results, and any better techniques that would give better percentages would be much appreciated.

If you happen to have any good links to tips on successfully starting plants from seed then that would also be very much appreciated... :)

Thanks!
Dennis

Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

1_Lucky_Texan, I have turk's cap in the satndard red - real hummingbird attractor.

We just planted some seeds so, if my Firespike is too late coming outta dormancy to get cuttings rooted, I may have some other stuff to trade.(Dutchman's Pipe, passiflora - maybe some veggies too.) I see no reason I can't bring some Plumeria at least! lol!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Aardvark7, may I have the 6 Lindheimer Muhly plants? I can give you 6 Penstemon tenuis in exchange.
