Other was getting too long. Let's continue here.
Al's Thread - Part 2 - Come back, Al!
pretty sad we are all hoping to talk to Al and getting no response
mine too!!!!
While we wait...
Thom - the central stem gets more and more brittle as time passes so you might want to try splitting your least favorite and see how it works for you.
The good news is, if it's the first year clumps, you can plant them as they are. Expect huge plants! Then, come fall, you can try dividing each one into three, four or five parts for planting in 2010.
I did send you Al's photos by Email.
People's central stem gets brittle as time passes too - take that calcium!
I just took mine!
Looks like a dahlia!
almost looks like a dahlia its called pink poodle
coneflower I swear its a hybrid from razzmatazz
I have pretty well every Echinacea I collect them I just love the flower and the seeds are good for the birds so I am now dying to get this new one
Is Al doing okay? I always enjoy seeing his pictures. Hope Al is healthy and well.
maybe the reason I like it so much is that I also love dahlias
scicciarella, I am having ech envy. I kill almost everyone I have tried. Maybe I will plant some at my mom's cottage on Lake of Bays. I am up there every summer, so I could have visitation rights. I wonder if Al will grow it because it so looks like a dahlia. Patti
It looks like it would be a flopper without support. How tall does it get?
I'm excited about my new echi's too but will be grateful if they all make it! lol
they are 30inches tall and sturdy never had any problems with them flopping since the petals are light it should be ok
I must have it lol
now I am on a quest again pink poodle one hahahha
I want some seeds but they only offer the plant and its about 20 plus shipping
I meant the new one - the pink doodle.
The information on the pink coneflower says the petals will retract as it ages. I am afraid that I am different as I don't care for coneflowers because of the retracting petals. To me it looks like they will wilt. I also don't care for fringed tulips, to me looking like something chewed them.
This puts me in a little small category as so many people like both. So for those who are fond of them, I am pleased to see the multiple petals & other traits which hybridizers are able to produce.
Do they have other color poodles? I'm not a pink flower person...and I don't know why I LOVE to wear pink, weird huh?
Update on Dogwalker(chuck) he's doing fine, just lurking and not posting...him and Marilyn also added another granddaughter over the holidays.
I also don't like the fringed tulips.
AAWWW! on the baby granddaughter. They are the best! Congrats!
Chuck did post on another thread, Jen. Thanks. Nice tulips!
We miss al everso on the Dahlia Forum too. He hasn't been on since November. I peeked and he did renew his membership though which is a good sign. BIGCITYAL PLEASE CALL HOME! WE MISS YOU!!!
This weekend Victor...I may have to make a sign...lol.
Maybe I will post it here, or maybe I will post it there,
maybe, just maybe AL will get the teeny tiny hint...lol.
irisMa....the æsthetics of coneflowers put me off too. Reassuring to know there is a small group which feels the same. I thought I was alone.
Perhaps Dave should start a forum for us.
DP I think you have to get in line behind the Nut Family Forum which I have requested.
Hello Dahlianut....my name is David-Paul and I have a problem with coneflowers.
Hello David-Paul... My name is Dahlianut and I'm a Dahliaholic. Also I seem to recall that you eat dahlias which is a bit more serious malady than coneflower aversion IMHO. Are you doing dahlias this year? (I mean growing, not eating)
Hi all what is it with coneflowers they are the easiest to grow plant add mulch water for two weeks and forget about them they will do fine they love sunshine
They are wildflowers here. Alot of people kill them with kindness I think.
yup that is the problem I kind of say hi to mine as I walk by most are planted where my hose doesnt reach so no problem with over watering hahahah
I don't dislike the echies but I don't get all the hoopla either. I have a few, will probably always have few, and most likely will never have more than a few.
I like the fact that they look like big colored daisies and in combo with other plants they really look nice and also they bloom for a long time any perennial that blooms for three months has my attention
My bees luv em so I luv em. I just have purpurea and alba and planned on no more except 'Pink Poodle' is so dahliaish that I will probably get it. Ok who am I kidding. I will get it for sure.
I have a couple of dahlias- given to me by friends and I don't know their names. They are lovely.
What are you FAV dahlias because I feel that I need at least one more. ;)
