Spring East Texas Round Up

Winnsboro, TX

I'm going to be there for sure this time....and Dde Tex aren't you the one I'm suppose to be bringing some "Special Plants" I started to? I'm old and forgetful but I think it's you. Those plants will be in the car with a bunch of others.

Got to run for now, I have children I have to pickup at school. Ya'll don't forget to stay in contact with me and remind me once in awhile about the Round Up.

Happy Gardening, Marian

Gilmer, TX

blkraven, I'd sure be willing to trade if I have something you want. Those are beautiful.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

blkraven, those are beautiful stones that I know would enhance anyone's yard, including mine ^_^

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks everyone.. I thought Id ask cause I didnt want to commit a faux pas..(Ithink I have that right..lol) I enjoy making them.. Ive made about 18 of them for myself so far. Ive also been making regular pavers but I use broken tile I got from Lowes as the mosaic.. one of these days Ill have enough for a 10x10 patio..lol.. Ive been making some concrete planters too.. Ill make some stuff up and bring it then..Im looking forward to meeting more people from the area..

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I just love creative, artistic people. They brighten things up. That will be one pretty patio raven.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Marion... yay.. it will be so good to get to meet you!!

blkraven.. those are soo pretty, and like Karen said... main worry is just bring yourself!! We have such a good time together

Lynea.. let me know where that thread is

Maggie.. I owe you big time for all the brugs you gave me last fall!! I hope I'll have something you might want!!

Pam.. It'll be good to see you again..lol... yes.. that's how it always is, when you really want to do something

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

I do lots of stuff that is different.....lol.. On my front porch I painted the ceiling deep purple than added siiver stars with little mirrors in the center. On the softet I stamped hydrangas, ferns and leaves along with some earth related quotes.. you can see a little bit of it in this pic

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

OH MY.. that is gorgeous blkraven!! Looks like a pic right out of Southern Living!! BTW.. what is your real name.. we like to be on first name basis... and where is Wells??

(Maggi) Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

OK, that does it. Blkraven you are hired! Please come and help design all my seating areas in the garden? (Kinda kidding, kinda not :~) Is it possible to paint the outdoor umbrellas?? I love your porch ceiling and all I have is a teeny tiny porch, so maybe umbrellas would be an alternative/additional canvas? And maybe some mosaic stepping stones/pavers in the seating areas? You tell me what to make and I'll make 'em, you can design and supervise.

Oh, and I can't pay wages, but I can pay in plants - LOL!

I love what you have shown us, any chance we can have a garden party at your house?

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

LOLLOL.... Yeah right Maggie... what brugs...was I dreaming?? hehehe

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Hey wait a sec I need Blkraven to come to my place and help me get my back yard ready for a wedding in September ...hahahahaha

To answer your question though once we start a trade thread you can trade whatever anyone wants to trade with ya
I've done home made bread and jams, candles, plants....it is for gardening but we don't always have gardening things to trade so once we put up the trade thread you can post your list of what you would have to offer and go from there I'm sure others will trade plants for goodies

Maggi had Ken checked his dmail lately????????

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

It is still cold and January and we are growing. Always nice to meet new folks so come on up.
I must work out of town for a few days but think I will hit the hollyhock with chemicals this weekend. Hope it wrms up a bit. May put a plastic tent over them and spray the heck out of 'em.
Marian- bet we can work out a trade on the special things, thanks.
DD

Psst, Becky. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/946310/ pay attention, would ya. LOL

Blkraven, what a beautiful job you've done! I love the colors used on your porch. The trading threads start up about a month before the event. The go fast and can be hard to keep up with. Be don't shy, were a chatty group and you may need to ask question more then once to get them answered. But we always have a great time and I promise you won't go away empty handed or hungry :0)

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

hmmmm.. I'm thinking we need SPRING BAD... some of us( Lynea) are getting a lil testy..hehe.. ok.. I'm going ..ty for the reminder

Phyllis.. dad gum you.. the BREAD is MINE.. I ain't sharing..lol...ok.. I'll tell y'all ... Phyllis bread is the best!!!!!!!!!!!

David... 71 outside right now.. one of those weird TX winter days, and going back to "normal" tomorrow. That doesn't sound quite right... there aren't many "normal" days in TX ..lol.. Be safe on your trip, and be good!!..lol

Aww, Beck, I luv ya. I would never get testy with you :0) If I sounded harsh, it must mean I need cookies. I'll go give myself two or three oatmeal attitude adjustments and promise to sound nicer ;0)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Well Becky, it is 32 here right now and supposed to get colder as the day progresses.
The roads are freezing, and it is a cloudy depressing day.
We had to cancel our greenhouse workday, and i have 10 different kinds of cuttings to pot.
I hope it will be better tomorrow, I hate the cold!!! especially freezing weather.
Josephine.

Sorry your day was canceled, Josephine. It must be so nice to work in a greenhouse on days like this. Hopefully it won't last long!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes Lynea, it would have been good to work there, unfortunately you have to get there first,
and that would be tricky.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Awww Lynea... I know you were'nt being testy.. I was teasing, and forgot to add my normal LOLOL's.. LUVE you too!! I checked that thread out, and have it watched. I'm intrigued by these "teas" to fertilize with

Josephine .. ty for that link to those sites on the bugs... I looked at all 3, and going to try the soap and water first. I have some of those "jewels" in the GH. yuck!! Sorry you are sooo cold.. I hate the cold as well. I started out in sweats this morning and immediately came back in and changed, and right now I could change again, but the cold front's coming tomorrow here too, just we won't be as low as y'all. Sorry you won't be able to go play in the dirt, but you're right.. you need to stay off those roads

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Becky, how you feeling these days. Your neck healing up OK?
LK

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey Linda Kay.. I was just wondering about you on another thread if you got home! How'd your Daddy make the trip?? I am doing well..ty... I go back to the Dr in Houston next week for my 4 week checkup!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We had a nice trip, but we got stuck in Dallas airporet, due to bad weather in San Antonio. No flights were allowed for several hours, so out 10:30am flight did not leave until 2:30pm.
But we are home now, and rested. Dad is very glad to be back in Texas, but he is not happy about the ice rain we are supposed to get tonight!
You take care.
LK

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

OH MY.. that is terrible... I haven't flown that much, but that would kill me to sit in an airport that long..lol .. noo I wouldn't be happy either about ice, but surely it's still better here than in Ohio... Glad you are home!!!

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Blkraven,
I think you better get busy making those wonderful crafts, because you are going to get lots of trade offers. You better bring a truck or trailer because you will take home lots of plants. I am looking forward to meeting you. Welcome to our group of planters nuts.

Charlene

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

Gee what a response!!! Thanks for all the wonderful comments everyone
let see if i can answer all the questions..lol..
my real name is Kathleen. Blkraven is my road name when on my motorcycle.

Wells is north of Lufkin and south of Jacksonville.

Yes, you can paint umbrella canvas, Ive made floor cloths using canvas so the concept is the same...

Ive an open door policy so come when ever youd like. Im usually here. I love company but the house and yard isnt anything fancy..the porch about the only area really done I got it done first cause my Mom likes to sit out there when she visits. Most everything else is under construction still.. Ive only been here 2 yrs and noone loved this place for a long time so Ive been busy..

Im always willing to help with ideas for yard art and seating..

So youve a wedding in Sept.. I was a floral designer in my past life (30 yrs experience) and have done zillions of weddings...lol.. wedding work was my speciality when I was employed. if you have questions about anything just ask..

Im looking forward to making new friends..
Thanks everyone

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Kathleen, you can't be far from Palestine then. We are 20 miles southwest of Jacksonville. We moved here from Fl 3 1/2 yrs ago. We too bought a house not much loved and have spent a lot of time and money making it our own. I look forward to meeting you at the RU.

Jeanne

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Nice to meet you Kathleen!! Looks like you're going to me a busy girl..lol.. I look forward to really meeting you.. You've had an exciting life

Hey Jeanne.. did it get cold there?? I have brugs ready to bloom, and i'm hoping I don't lose them!!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Your stones are simply adorable! I hope to meet you at the RU too. I will need a frog or sunflower stone, or both! LOL!!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Hey Becky,
It got cold here last night. Woke up to 29° at 7a.m. The tops of the trees have ice and are very pretty. But it is 33° and everything is starting to melt. All my brugs are in the workshop and thriving. I'm sure they hate being cooped up in the workshop for four days, but a woman has to do what a woman has to do to save her brugs right? Hopefully later today they will get to come outside.

Now next year will be the true test as all my brugs are going in the ground in April. My Cherub bloomed over Christmas. I had seven beautiful pink blossoms. Didn't lose a one. And she was in and out of the workshop almost daily. Spending her nigths in the workshop and days outside. Are your brugs inside?

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Jeanne... i don't know how cold it got but we had a big frost this morning... yuck..lol.. The monster white that Bonnie gave me last summer put another trunk up from the roots in October, and is now over my head. It has 13 buds, and I have several others with 2-5 buds. If you remember that monster white was the only one that flowered for me..lol.. so I am extremely excited!! Lyle built me a 14x24 green house last fall, so I'm still learning, but that's where all mine are, and yep.. mine are going in the ground too!! btw.. that monster white has bloomed 3x, or will with this flush.. it's a blooming nut!!

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

Sheila.. let me know what you want and Ill have them for you.. we can work out the trade later.. I barter my art work quite a bit. I bartered this basket for a years worth of potttery classes. To bad barter isnt used more...Ive decorated much of my house with artwork I traded for when I was doing art shows.
Ill have stepping stones, mosaic gazing globes baskets and gourd art for trade if anyone is interested..

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Becky, it's fantastic that the Monster White is so big and blooming for you. My Monster cutting is still quite small. You have a nice large GH. Mine is only 6x8 but I love every square inch of it. My Cherub sent up another trunk too. When it gets to be about 2 or 3 ft tall, I will cut it and root it. I have an American Pride that has five new trunks coming off of it. They may be ready for the Fall RU.

Kathleen, yes to all the above. ^_^

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

I guess Id better get busy then.. ..lol.. looking forward to meeting everyone

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Jeanne...I have some cuttings I'll probably offer this spring.. I have some that are duplicates... they are looking real good. Most will be NOID's though

Yes Kathleen..lol... I want at least one of each too!!... Maybe you could do a class for us and teach us one of your easier crafts! That would be GREAT!

HUH Phyllis??????..lol

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

Becky...Teach???..sure Ill teach a class.. the last class I taught was gourd art here at my home ..(see pic) I can handle about 8 students at once max, with a min of 4 to have the class. Ive taught basket making, gourd art, mosaic work, rubber stamping for handmade cards, and beaded jewelry. Had it in May of last year outside under a tent.Im already planning a other gourd class only this one is for gourd masks..but I can do another on anything youd like..
If theres enough interest we can set up a class. For the gourd art class I charged 20.00 for a 4 hr class and that included everything but what you wanted to drink while you were here. I provided snacks.. I can start a thread if you think others would be interested

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

That is really pretty and the other things sound interesting too. The classes would be super and some may be interested.
You may or may not know about the marketplace on DG. Here is a link for the arts and crafts section. It is really the only place on DG to sell items I think, but if I am wrong, someone will correct me.

http://davesgarden.com/products/market/cat.php?catid=3

Wells, TX(Zone 8b)

no I didnt know there was a place to sell stuff on DG.. Thanks for the link..

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Kathleen... I can't speak for the others, but i was thinking maybe an hour class. We usually only meet for about 4-6 hours, and I know by myself that I want to be able to talk to as many as I can.. then with the trading and eating..lol... just not that much time left. You really are extremely talented.. something I'm not but would love to learn

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

The time at the RU is always rushed with trades, eating and door prizes. Short talks or demonstrations might work also but it seems like getting the groups attention for any length of time could be an issue. For me, visiting with my friends is the most valuable event. Some members enjoy going to other folks gardens and seeing them. Last year going to Ken/Maggies was a real treat. In the spring some came to my place which I also enjoyed much.
I think that your classes sound great. It may be better to organize it at the RU and have it on another day. After seeing examples of your work it will generate interest from many of us. It seems like many members have a bit of ADD as you will see when you attend the RU.
Just be sure to make it to the RU and save one of your goodies for me. I usually have some nice plants for trade.
