I saw this little birdie on the parking lot at Wal-mart. He just let me drive right up and take the picture. I know this has to be a Killdeer but the markings don't fit. Juvenile?
Daily Pics Vol. 174
What's up with your nuthatches, pelle?
Looks like an adult to me, crazybirdlady (I adore your name). Just hunkered down.
I think it might be all the Starlings that are around that are keeping them away.
Nice collage burn!
Burn...Love that collage and the Redpolls! I hope ours shows up again today!
Nice pics everyone!
I finally had a chance to check out the brush piles yesterday and here are a few pics from that area.
Here is an American Robin...I remember when they were the first sign of sping but they've been here all winter.
Thanks Boojum...I like your name, too. I need to change the number on the end of it though! LOL
Great pictures everyone.
Don't know how I missed this thread. Have been bird watching all my long life. I live in the hill country, no other house in sight unless I go to edge of my 5 acres. Very dry area, only trees are ones I have planted since I moved here almost 14 years ago. Have a lot of Calif. quail, and English sparrows. Probably 3 doz. Goldfinches. Several juncos, at least one American Tree sparrow. A large flock of Cedar waxwings came by and cleaned up my Prairie Fire Malus allee of 10 trees with lots of fruit. No robins yet this late winter.
There is at least 10" of crusted snow, with part of my 200 plus feet of paths cleaned outof snow. So my little Lhaso Apso can run on those partly cleaned paths. Now that the snow is crusted she can walk on top.
Here is a picture of some of the Calif. quail eating a mix of chicken scratch and wild bird feed.
Donna
Holy cow that's a lotta quail!
Isn't that amazing, GG, how they can swallow so much?
Wow, those are a lot of quail! How cool to see! And welcome!!
Great pics everyone!
Donna, I can't get over all the quail!
Duc, I would love to have that many Goldfinch.
Thanks Pelle and Rose. I like to see those Cardinals.
Nanny what attracts the Cedar Waxwings at this time?
Donna, so many Quails!!! nice to see you here, welcome to the forum.
That's a very nice pic of the house finch in that setting. Duc.
GG funny how those Blue Jays can stuff themselves, I have some that come here, and they act as though they're stealing the peanuts. Always checking to see if I saw them. :)
female Pine Grosbeak.
Donna, what a cool picture of all those quail!
I've seen more wild turkeys this winter than ever before in my life. Actually had my camera with me today when I saw about two to three dozen of them in a corn field. Of course as soon as I pulled the car to the side of the road they moved farther out into the field. So these photos are cropped.
Burn, they are still cleaning off the last of the type of shrub berries they have been eating all fall. And we have several types of trees that have some type of small dark berries on them. I know NOTHING in regard to what typ of trees these might be!!
I found absolutely nothing today...not even much going on in the yard for pete sakes!! Heard the Blue Birds , but never did see them. Heard a Pileated drumming BIG time...but didn't see it.
I did get some pics of a very hansome American Robin yesterday afternoon.
Nice pics nanny! I wonder why so many Robin's aren't migrating?
They had a local guy from WBU on the noon news yesterday. He remarkrd that here anyway there seems to be an abundance of food available to them so more are around and they are more out and about, being more visible.
Yesterday was such a beautiful afternoon...this female Northern Cardinal decide to take a bath! 4- shots
