January Blooms continued number 5

Gail, how do you get your background to be black? I can't quite get my settings right!

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

I have a bud on my Something Special. It's the second time it's bloomed for me since last Fall. Hope to be able to post a pic in a few days!!!

Gold Leaf, I love your Ida Wanna. I love yellow centers on streps!!!!!

I used to live about 30" away--now about 1 hour, and it is a very pleasant scenic drive. Usually plan to spend the day, include lunch and maybe some local shopping--lots of antique stores in that area. I have met Brian very briefly--he is often there. My Something Special came from Logee's, and has been blooming all winter! Part of the fun of Logee's is that you can repot your new plants right there, before you leave! I know it sounds risky, but my plants have never suffered any ill effects from the experience. Also goes to show how well developed the plants are when you purchase them!

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

So you get free dirt?!!??

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have a black shoebox (LOL)
Now......most of my plants are getting too big for the black shoebox.........I need to do something else to get a black background like material or paint a big box black!

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Clever!!!! Now, let me see if I threw out my black shoebox!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I was putting my hoya back outside after the few days of freezing temps, and found this little Codonanthe blooming. When I first got it, I didn't realize that it was a gesneriad. I thought it was from the Hoya family. The floweres are sooooooooooo tiny, that they can be easily missed. It may have bloomed before, but it was hanging outside among my hoya and I could have easily missed blooms before.

Susan, what in the world are you feeding your streps to get so many blooms! They are always loaded down with great flowers.

Highland, IL

Again, all I can say is WOW!! All of your pictures are just great!!!

Gail, I have some AV leaves down, if and when they become a real plant I will gladly send you some if you are interested in kinds I have. They are listed on the WAN/HAVES thread, and since I have no idea how to do strep leaves and I will have to ask how!! Everyone has been so helpful!!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Strep leaves can become an addiction quickly. ^_^

Gail, I use Pete's 20/20/20 1/4 of the dose at watering times... That is it... really... I am just thankful they like me...
I don't add any thing extra... They seem to like me... except for the streps to root in perlite/soiless mix.. That is what I love about streps they bloom all winter long for me... I groom then every so many days... I pull dead flowers/stems off and have a pile everytime.... Other then that nothing...
Hugs,
Susan

Thanks......Susan.......
I have been using an orchid that is 20-?-?............May switch again...........
I don't think I am leaving the lights on long enough each day also...........

***edited to say that I looked up Peters 20-20-20 and 17% of the Nitrogen is in Urea form.........but yours look great ......or did you find some Peters without the urea in the nitrogen?

Susan, sounds like a winner! I was pouring over Rob's new 2009 varieties last night, as well as the catalog from Gary's. I foresee a lot of money being spent in the next couple of months! I can't think of any better way to spend my "extra" cash! LOL

Susan, next to your Spin Art, is that Texas Hot Chili?

Gail,
I am sure my must have what you said above as I got mine in a very big tub last summer... Trust me they don't seem to mind and most of the big plants are a year old... I put my lights on as soon as I get up to I go to bed..Which could be from 5:30am till 11 or 12 pm, am or from 7 - 8 it depends on how I feel... Also don't forget my shelves are wide so two trays can fit and I have two sets of light on each shelf... If I wanted I could have 3 sets of lights... I thought that was over kill... I do put marathon in the soil for bugs... I do nothing special for them... I do believe I am going to use some fish stuff I used on my plumerias as extra... I have things here to add to the soil and never have like lime, worm poop, and some others I can't think of right now...LOL Hey it works for me ... I do tend to them like pulling dead flowers and long stems with no blooms get cut... but other then that. nothing...
I will take a picture in a few so you can see them all still blooming....
Hugs,
Susan
