Is that picture on a tinplate?

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Now that will get her spirits up for sure Trisha.. like she needs another wall of paper stuffs!!!!!! Lolol... anything to take your mum out of depression. When my mother was depressed, I'd do silly stuffs, cause I knew she'd be fussin' at me, and then she'd forgot that she had been depressed :D When she started her monologue on why Lord made daughters like me, I'd tell her that she's not paid to fuss.. and that will get her more riled up.... I rather she stay mad then depress. Bless her heart.. she was that way after my dad died. Couldn't take her shopping as she'd just moan and groan.. :(

Good questions posed there Deborah and Janice, hope Lisa will use them.
Sad to say, the ONLY times I enjoyed the benefits of being salaried was when the plant closed due to hurricanes!!!!!!!

Yep, have to go out of town just for Indian food. Biryani or Briyani, is a dish from Pakistan or Northern India. A rich curry base dish, with fruits and nuts, so aromatic and your starch is long grain bismati rice. There are 1001 kinds of curry but biryani is the king of curries.

Since you asked Deborah.. Biryani 101
The spices used in biryani may include cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, bay leaves, coriander, mint leaves, ginger, onions, and garlic. For that delicious aroma and a taste of luxury, real saffron is added. All these spices are cooked in ghee (clarified butter). Chunks of meat are then cooked with these spices.
The bismati rice is cooked separately. Halfway through cooking, the prepared biryani will be layered with the rice, and the whole mixture is then cooked again till the rice is cooked. Imagine the 'curry' permeates through the rice... It's a long, ardous process... but worth every penny. My mother was a caterer, and that's her specialty.

Naan is round flatbread, not unlike your tortilla. Good naans are made in tandoori (clay) ovens, where they stick the breads on the side of the ovens, and left to bake. They ended up looking tear drop shape.

Unfortunately, when we got there, the restaurant was closed!! Sooooo.. we ended up in a Thai restaurant. Not a lost cause. Maid M. you had fried snapper in yellow curry. Thai curries are sweet, so, you had the sauce very sparingly.

So sorry you're nauseous Audrey. Lay off Jax booze!!!! Could be the Lasix?

Well, your great granma had a great facial bone structure Crissy..

Forgot to mention this.. Mum would use cashews and raisins in the rice too. She'd also browned onions and sprinkle on top before serving.

Audrey, call the hospital emergency room and talk with an RN. Tell her about your heart condition and that you are experiencing nausea. That doesn't sound good. Maybe she can tell you how to get rid of the nausea of if she thinks its something that maybe you need to get an ekg.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Jokes aside, when my blood glucose is high, I get nauseated too.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

hey there Jaye! I didn't know your mama was a caterer. Wow, then you experienced lots of good dishes! No wonder you're so well versed in different kinds of foods. Is the bread, the naan, eaten along side the rice dish or do you fold it over with the rice in the middle?

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

You've made me hungry. I'm going to fix a hot pocket.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Naan is used as a side dish, to sop up any gravy.
Sis Deborah... this is the Valentine-Snotty thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/938516/

Tiga is part Maine Coon Cat and I think Tabby, she looks part Tabby, but definitely Maine Coon Cat. I know she's not pure bread because her fur isn't long enough.

I have the actual picture in my closet, I scanned it. The picture frame is original also but it's falling apart and will no longer hold the picture. I need to get another frame for it before the whole thing falls apart.

I made a mistake, she's my great-great grandmother. Grandfathers mom's mom. She looks just like my great grandmother, grandfather's mom, except my great grandmother had white skin and blue eyes, just like the man in the picture.

Give me a minute, I'm going to see if I can get my great-grandmother out of the frame and scan it also so ya'll can see the resemblance.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Ok, sorry it's taken me so long, had to take a picture of the picture, the only way to get the original picture of my great grandmother is to break it, held together with about 50 nails!

The lady and gentleman above is definitely her parents, the skin tone got lost in the gene pool.

Audrey, I think you should call someone too. You don't want to mess around with heart problems hun.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

It looks like it, I'm going to say yes.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL I'm a dummy, I bet my mom knows my great-grandmother's maiden name, which will give me the Indian lady's married name. She might know the Indian Lady's full name. I should ask her.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Ask your mom if they have a family Bible with all the family tree written in it.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

My mom doesn't remember the picture at all, so I emailed her the attachment of it. I'll see what she says lol!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

She's making a family tree on Ancestry.com. I don't think she's gotten this far.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

That picture looks like it was taken in the 50's my the style of the eye glasses and the tint of the colored picture.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ladies, I am calling it a night.
Kathy take care, and post those pictures please. But I don't think you will mind if Cindy post them for you. I know you are so busy with hurricane Pam!
How is your daughter doing in re-hab? Hope she is showing some progress.

She remembers the picture and the names on the tip of her tongue. Ha! She does have a book somewhere, she's going to go get it and call me back.

I'm sorry for hogging this ya'll but your helping me figure out who this is! Thank you so much!

Snotty Valentine thread, I'm going to go check that out. Brb.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I knew my great-grandmother. Her name was Bessie, she passed away at 87 years old when I was 10, that was in 1982. So this picture was probably taken in the early 1970's, lol she wore glasses like that in her casket at her request to my grandfather and uncles, she was blind and didn't care that they looked old. I remember her saying, "I'll be dead, why would I care what I look like?" LOL she was a crack up.

My mom says that the Indian woman's full name, maiden last name was Lily Ellie Frost, and she was full blood Cherokee living in Chickasaw Territory.

The white guy was Alfred Monroe Flowers. No wonder I'm confused lol!

Hey Jaye,Marion and Trisha.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I saw the picture of your green house and your roses, Cody. Are you and your husband hobbists or in business to sell roses?

Coushatta, LA

It is one of our hobbys. We would like to start cuttings on all of our roses and sell the plants.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Looks like you have the space and a nice greenhouse to do just that.

Coushatta, LA

Yes we have the space. My husband has 7 and something acres of land and two greenhouses. It will just take some time getting it going.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I wish you the best success.

Thanks Deborah.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks for sharing your family photos, and history Crissy. It's always good to know where you came from.

Hi Cody! Hope you didn't have too much trouble with Alex at the doctor's.
Deborah, Cody's DH knows a lot about plants, and he is so into roses.

I'm off to bed.... it's gonna be in the 20's again tomorrow. Can't complain when some of you are getting below 10's.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Morning sistahs and nieces. Got to take Katie to the vet this am. I think Kobe bit her on the neck while they were eating Monday. She has a pocket under her ear that appears to have filled up with blood or else it's a vessel that has been pinched. It's a big round ball of something right under her ear. I sure hope it's not serious. Please say a prayer for her. She's my baby.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks everyone, for worrying about me.If I don't start feeling better, I'll call my Dr. back. It sould do NO good to call the ER here! They'd just say comein, and I don't want to!
It might be the lasix, I guess I need to take an extra potassium pill! Ugh!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Awww! Poor baby! I know how this must make you feel, I've had terrible luck with my critters over the years! Take good care of her! And I know you will!

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Hey Audrey. When you didn't check back in last night I started to worry. I wanted to call you but I was afraid you may have gone to sleep trying to get over the nausea.
